Internet Transition

We are in transition with Internet connectivity, so I may not be around this weekend. Unless it's via moblog.

iPhone Fanboys

I don't get it, how do these guys get away with waiting in line for days at an Apple store for an expensive item like the iPhone? Don't these dudes have jobs? Is it truly worth wasting vacation days on?

Obviously, my questions are rhetorical as they're able to afford the iPhone, probably work from home or indeed are using vacation time and since they're Apple fanboys, could anything be more important than the iPhone?

I think it's a crazy waste of time.

It's too hot.

I have a life!

Random Ten
10 songs that sum up your weekend...or were on your weekend playlist...and one picture that relates back. (oh, and if you feel like it, tell us why you picked the songs you did)

This solo singer/guitarist sang all ten songs in my list which I found quite interesting, as well as entertaining. The audience loved his selections and the only quiet time was when he walked to his notebook computer and queued the next selection. It made me wonder why he didn't have everything pre-arranged since it's already digitized anyway. What he lacked in enthusiasm he more than made up for with his song list.

~ Roy Orbison Pretty Woman
~ Lynard Skynard Sweet Home Alabama
~ James Taylor Shower the People
~ Christopher Cross Ride Like the Wind
~ Jim Croce Bad Leroy Brown
~ CCR Born on the Bayou
~ Santana Evil Ways
~ Bob Seger Old Time Rock and Roll
~ Bruce Springsteen Glory Days
~ Lynard Skynard Freebird

The Noodle

Boo geeked out and bought a new & improved water nozzle for the expanding garden. I am not complaining, merely sharing what caught Boo's fancy out of thousands of items at the fair. Oh and the Tealight Gnome on the sidebar was the first purchase and another Boo pick. We convinced The Noodle salesguy to hold the gnome for us until the end of the night, as the pointy headed one was a tad heavy to be carrying around!

Del Mar Fair

This photo quilt to a mother is simply breathtaking in design and concept. We are in San Diego, one hundred miles from home, having finally made it to this fair. I've been wanting to come for like the last five years and could never remember the dates the fair was in town. It's great to complete something I've wanted to do for so long.

Thirteen observations when People Watching

~ It's amazing that there is someone for everyone

~ Guys, wearing a totally crisscrossed wrinkled shirt is not cool.

~ In addition to checking the shirt you want to wear for stains, smell the underarm area and make certain there's no body odor.

~ Very few women can correctly walk in high heels. Most are wobbly and shaky.

~ Guys, cologne does wonders.

~ White pants show everything, even your skiddy underwear. Unmarked ones work best.

~ Guys, letting your pants hang down to your ass may be sexy to some, but not when your BVDs are stained, dirty and look like the cat used them as her litter box.

~ Folks poke themselves with abandon in the most disgusting orifices.

~ Wearing a push up bra is only necessary when you're an 'A' or 'B' cup. Anything larger and you look like hard, plastic bowls.

~ Wearing black shorts and black shoes does not mean you should wear black socks too.

~ When wearing a micro-skirt cross your legs when sitting. Not everyone needs to witness your desperation.

~ If you don't want to paint your toe nails fine, but please put cream on your cracked, scabby feet.

~ Color coordination is necessary and not brain surgery.

Curious as a Cat

In your opinion, who do you think would benefit most from meditation? Paris Hilton. She needs to reflect on what's important in life and realize that if her life is worth living, so are the lives of countless others. Do not drink and drive!

What is your favorite characteristic in girls/women? The ability to effectively multi-task.

If you were 6 inches tall for a day, what would you do? I'd eavesdrop on specific conversations and go off and play once I got bored. Who'd know I was gone?

Our best friend whom we've known for over 18 years, just had her "baby" graduate from high school. It's always wonderful to see how great a child's turned out and how good a person they are. Jessica laughs at all of us when we get together because she says we're "silly and never change". Let us hear a tune and we'll start singing, maybe dancing, and she's like "Omigod, let me get out of here!" Good times this weekend, wonderful celebration and loads of fun!

Where has the time gone?

The weekend is almost over and I haven't completed half of what I wanted to. We didn't make it to a graduation in San Diego today, but aren't terribly disappointed because we gave the graduates gift to her mother and FedEx'd a gorgeous lei that we know the graduate loved.

Also, since we both have work bright and early tomorrow, driving three hours each way in traffic is not a great idea. Last night we were in Anahiem and it took us one solid hour to arrive there from Alhambra - that is totally crazy! It 's like a 30 mile commute. So we could imagine the traffic to the beautiful city of San Diego on a gorgeous day like today.

I've been working on ripping my CD collection to an external USB drive and, because I don't do it daily, the project's taking forever. I almost don't want to buy anymore music because I think about how much more stuff I have to rip. LOL

Meanwhile, Boo spoke with a co-worker about the WinME notebook that's been cast out of our home network loop and he feels that the processor can handle an upgrade to XP. While I disagree, Boo's excited about it and the friend's willing to do the upgrade, so we'll see. It would be fantastic to have the notebook on XP, no doubt.

After our initial lighting of the chiminea and subsequent scare the roaring flames gave us, we've decided to cut the pre-treated fire logs in half and see how that turns out. Of course, we haven't tried it yet because well, it's been too warm at night. Oh and we uh, bought a fire extinguisher too!

I received another ebay purchase via Boo of Uno Madness. The Uno franchise has had some great games and I don't understand why they've stopped making them. Two other fun Uno variations are Uno Dominoes and Uno Rummy Up. The latter is on its way and speaking of no shows, I'm eagerly anticipating the arrival of the Canon S50 digital camera.

Benihana's

Enjoying an apple martini as we wait to be seated. It's a gorgeous night out, the restaurant is hopping (maybe folks are celebrating Father's Day early?), every table is filled to capacity and I'm so glad Boo made reservations. In the meantime, we're socializing with folks we don't know and the bartender is entertaining us and tempting us with each creation!

Thirteen things about the Sopranos Final season:

~ Johnny Sack died of cancer while in prison. Why couldn't he be redeemed to his former glory days before dying?

~ AJ never amounted to anything except a spoiled, petulant slacker.

~ Paulie never reunited with his mother on screen.

~ Janice never bonded with Bobby's children.

~ Rosalie April never knew that Tony murdered her son.

~ Meadow's separation from her dentist boyfriend was never explained.

~ Uncle Junior wasted away in an institution.

~ Tony out lived a lot people when he shouldn't have.

~ Heche could've ordered a hit on Tony after being slighted and embarrassed by Tony for wanting is $200,000 plus paid in full.

~ Dr. Malfi never told her therapist where to stick it after he breached her confidentiality.

~ Christopher Maltesante is killed and we never find out why Tony hastened his demise.

~ David Chase royally sucks!

While the weekend was fun and great, the thing that most stands out right now is the horrible finale of The Sopranos. Show creator David Chase committed a grave injustice against the show's faithful fans and we deserved a lot better. The idiot should be forced to redo it. It isn't like The Sopranos are the Seinfeld's and can get away with a finale about absolutely nothing. It totally sucked and was such a huge disappointment I just as well should have skipped the final six episodes. At least the show would have ended with me having positive feelings about it instead of complete disappointment and anger. How the cast could perform in the insipid finale is beyond me. It was such an insult to the fans. As for speculation that an alternate version will make its way to the box DVD set, it doesn't matter because I've stopped caring and will not support David Chase by paying money for something I'm already paying for...it's called cable.

~ The Isley Bros. Who's that Lady?
~ Nelly Furtado Do It
~ Madonna Ray of Light
~ Seals & Croft Diamond Girl
~ The Stylistics You Are Everything
~ Roxy Love is a Drug
~ Steppenwolf Magic Carpet Ride
~ The Beatles Magical Mystery Tour
~ Rod Stewart Do You think I'm Sexy?
~ ELO Roll Over Beethoven

Mickey Mouse Hat

On our last trip to Disneyland I spied two gals on the ride It's A Small World wearing this adorable red baseball cap. I wanted one and we searched all of Disneyland only to come up nil. Boo said I should check the Disney store, which we did and nothing. Finally Boo found it on eBay from a seller in Maryland and it's here! LOL I was so excited and plan on wearing it this month when we go. The same gal had this cap in black and though, it's too hot to wear right now, we bought it for the autumn/winter trips. Yahoooo!

I still haven't bought anything on eBay by myself. Boo always has to do the research and handle the transaction, even down to transferring money to the PayPal fund. I am also waiting for my Canon S50 digital camera. As shared before, my baby died about a month ago and since I loved that model so much, again Boo found one on eBay and it's expected next week. If Canon continued making this model, I would have gladly bought it again.

Wi-Fi Reconfiguration

Out of the blue I decided to switch wi-fi routers (oh man, I just remembered that I haven't canceled my DSL service) which meant having to bring the network down, install and configure the new router and bring all the systems up to speed with the improved encryption.

Those of you who have been with me for awhile know that what can wrong, always goes wrong with me!

Thankfully, the desktop computer that connects to the router was working flawlessly. I ended up needing this fortune because the oldest notebook would not see, let alone connect to the wi-fi network regardless what I tried.

In the middle of my mess Boo came home and gave me a look like "Oh God, raging hormones. Let me get outta here!" Of course, everything in the den was wreck and I had notebook computers teetering on boxes to get them as close to the wi-fi router as I could.

The newer notebook also wouldn't connect and I was practically pulling my hair out. I couldn't understand why the XP notebook could see the network but not connect.

So there I was Googling on the desktop computer to troubleshoot, I have no idea what I would've done without it! Sometime later I learned that the oldest notebook was incapable of connecting since its WME OS didn't support the encryption I'd implemented.

As for the newer notebook, its Zero Config setting was corrupted. I had to trash it and set it up again. Finding where the Zero Config service is located was a challenge too.

The only computer that worked from the get go was the new Vista notebook. I'd heard so many nightmare stories about Vista that I totally expected it to be the problem.

I tell you Google's a lifesaver when it comes to trouble shooting and finding things fast with accurate relevancy. It is my search engine of choice and anytime someone asks me something that I don't know I tell them "Google it!" I've been using it so long that I can't remember when they came on the scene and trumped the competition.

Oh, did you know Google offers free 411 Directory Assistance? Just dial 1-800-GOOG-411 and if you want to learn shortcuts when using it check out their Tips Page.

I couldn't help but cheer when news of Paris Hilton's re-incarceration was received. All morning everyone's been talking about her premature release and the deal our so-called sheriff Baca proffered with her personal psychiatrist and high priced attorney.

There has been outrage by many Angelenos who personally know or know family friends who have been sentenced for "minor" offenses and yet, had to serve the full sentence regardless, of health ailments or extenuating circumstances. It is an outrage and insult to the community that sheriff Baca awarded her preferential treatment.

All socio-economic scales and ethnicities have been disgusted by Baca's actions, as well as the arrogance demonstrated by the Hilton family. If you are upset by this situation, then vote with your pocketbook. Do not patronize Hilton-owned properties. Clearly they understand only one thing: money. Hit them where it counts by not patronizing their hotels.

As for Baca, Angelenos can send him a loud message by writing the city attorney's office and demanding that Baca be held accountable for his action. Hold him in contempt and fine him. If possible, place him on administrative leave without pay. Why should taxpayers literally pay for his mistake? Finally, remember him when re-election time comes round.

Thursday Thirteen
13 board games family & friends enjoy playing

~ Rummikub (We have a travel version of this game that is perfect for playing at coffeehouses where table space is limited.)
~ Uno
~ Boggle (Attache versions of this game keep all your pieces in place and this travel version is even more compact.)
~ Scrabble
~ Monopoly Junior (regular Monopoly takes too darned long)
~ Uno Rummy Up
~ Dominoes
~ Trivial Pursuit (best played when your team consists of members from each era!)
~ Uno Dominoes
~ Mille Bourne
~ Backgammon
~ Pictionary
~ Song Burst (You draw a card with a song title and you and you must sing the song lyrics to your team members and get them to name the song. When you can't sing, like I can't, this game proves very challenging, hilarious and lots of fun and embarrassment!)

Best Buy and my bad experience

Recently Best Buy had a very good price on a Toshiba notebook with Vista. I normally do not shop BB but because the sale was so good, off I went and sure enough, the notebook was in stock on the very last day of the sale. I detest them so much that I waited until the last day hoping they didn't have it!

I was greeted by a very portly and towering sales associate named Todd. He proceeded to upsell the moment I said "I'll take it."

Todd stated that the notebook was "Filled with programs that I didn't need but were installed by the manufacturer. These programs consume a lot of space and should be removed to prevent the computer from operating slowly. Removal is hard and time consuming, but the Geek Squad would do it for $125."

No.

"This notebook comes with Windows Vista, a brand new operating system that hasn't been out very long. It needs to be configured..."

"Are you telling me that Vista is not installed on this computer or that it comes with an upgrade coupon and WXP is installed?"

"Well no, but because it is a new operating system it should be configured by professionals for virus protection, anti-spyware and a host of other things."

No.

"It will only cost $99."

"NO! Just get the notebook and ring me up. I will..."

"You know, all kinds of things can happen if you don't know what you're doing."

"I don't care. Get the notebook and ring up the sale."

So Todd goes off to the stock room presumably to retrieve my computer and no sooner has he departed, then a Squad member from the Geek Squad approached me.

Now the store was bustling and other shoppers were in plain sight either being assisted or waiting to be assisted yet, I didn't witness them receiving the upsell attention that I was.

Then it hit me. The other customers were male and this anal retentive buffon assumed that because I am female, I know nothing.

I recognized however that my anger was with Todd and not the new guy, so I let him begin his spiel and then promptly advised him that:

~ I am not new to computers
~ Have an existing Wi-Fi network with security
~ Use NOD32 anti-virus software
~ Use Spybot and AdAware
~ Know perfectly well how to uninstall unwanted programs
~ Have absolutely no interest in the services of the Geek Squad

He promptly rung up the sale. Thanked me and said I was well prepared.

We're in the new millennium and pompous assholes still treat females as if we know nothing.

Bloody incredible!

Random Ten
10 songs that sum up your weekend...or were on your weekend playlist...and one picture that relates back. (oh, and if you feel like it, tell us why you picked the songs you did)

It's time to get back into gear and I don't know which is harder: getting into vacation mode or into work mode. It can take me up to two weeks to feel like I'm on vacation, but this year was different. Thanks to Boo I fell right into lounge mode and merrily remained. I'm even struggling to get into "blog mode" because, even though I constantly have ideas about what to share/write, committing it to print is different from mulling it in my head.

~ Luma Wake Up While sitting outside by the fire I heard what to me was the best song for the moment.
~ Donovan Hurdy Gurdy
~ Jethro Tull Living in the Past
~ Mountain Mississippi Queen
~ Moody Blues I'm Just a Singer in a Rock and Roll Band
~ Sheryl Crow Favorite Mistake
~ Don Henley All She Wants to do is Dance
~ Van Morrison Domino
~ The Road Dogz I just wanna make Love to You
~ ELO Evil Woman

Chiminea

Sometime ago we bought an outdoor fire pit that was rather bulky and cumbersome to deal with. We never lit it and it's been relegated to the garage. Boo came upon this chiminea at Kohl's and told me about it only after we'd been cruising Hollyweird.

We agreed on what we were willing to spend, returned to Kohl's to find the price and bought it - despite it exceeding what we'd agreed upon. LOL

Once assembled Boo wanted to fire it up and I was too lazy to go to the store. I finally agreed and we bought treated fireplace logs. It's kind of hard to find dried firewood at 8:30 p.m. in Southern California.

I am so glad that I changed my mind because last night was crisp and perfect for an outdoor fire in our terrace.

We garnered a few stares from passersby as the fire really "lit up the area" and illuminated everything else quite well! Mostly, it was just wonderful to see the happy and proud expression on Boo's face.

Bad Accident

Where Sunset & Hollywood meet @ Hillhurst. We've been driving around in search of a specific frame store that directory assistance doesn't acknowledge exist. Meanwhile, we've been "cruising" Hollyweird Bl. for awhile only to park in front of a frame store and find that it is the store we've been searching for!?! Why couldn't we find it? Maybe because the business merged and uses an entirely different business name!
