What are Pogs?

They are the cardboard inserts from glass milk bottles of the forties and fifties.

Sunday Ads

I've just finished looking at them and I am amazed at the prices on standard DVDs and some music CDs. Of course, the sales run for four days only, so I need to get to Circuit City and Best Buy tomorrow or Tuesday.

I spent today indoors skunking about and watching DVR'd programming. It was sunny and fairly nice but I just didn't feel like being out and about. We did that yesterday and that was more than enough for me. Sometimes we spend so little time at home, especially during the week, that come the weekend I want to cocoon.

Christmas Music...

...began playing on local Southern California station KOST 103.5 FM on Friday. I'm sorry to say they're starting earlier each year. It used to be they'd wait until Black Friday to start with the 24/7 Christmas music.

I love Christmas music but prefer to listen after the Thanksgiving holiday. I know retailers are super excited about having an extra week of shopping, but if they keep this up, I'm one shopper that's going to revolt.

Whatever happened to giving us time to ease into the spirit? Of making shopping fun and exciting? Of making it a journey not a quick destination?

Maybe I'm getting old? Crabby? I just need a little more time, folks. Don't rush me!

The Thursday Thirteen
Thirteen things I've witnessed this week

~ At a potluck a lady walks in with a shabby grocery store-type pie and leaves with a shopping bag filled with left overs.
~ One gal leaves for lunch looking pretty average and returns with her nose bright red and teary eyes from a nose piercing.
~ A motorist signals a right turn and turns left from the center lane - not the designated left turn lane.
~ A gal dressed in navy blue is wearing one brown shoe and one black shoe of the exact same style and heel.
~ Buddah rubbing his scent on the bushes almost did a somersault because he lurched forward too hard.
~ A guy is viewing a joke email that reads F*CK YOU! as his boss walks past.
~ A man walking his stout, low to the ground bulldog each morning. You know the saying about dogs looking like their owners?
~ A motorist has changed his flat tired at the shoulder of the freeway and left behind his jack and crowbar in the lane of traffic. Traffic comes to a crawl on the Hollyweird frwy.
~ A woman dressed in scrubs (presumably from County General hospital three city blocks away) frantically waving her arms imploring motorists to slow down as she chases a German Shepard in a six lane highway during rush hour.
~ A guy fills the coffee pot with water only to find the carafe is cracked as the water gushes out.
~ Window washers washing windows on a high rise on a windy day.
~ A ghastly sight as Baby Jane shows the gals at work the free pair of leopard panties she got with her purchase.

Ten on Tuesday
10 Songs That Bring Back Memories (and why)

- Ambrosia Biggest Part of Me Boo used to serenade me.
- Parliamen Funkadelic Flashlight My friend Leti and I would sing this at the top of our lungs and change key words!
- The Johnson Bros. Stomp Boo and I would pump up the volume as we drove around town.
- Rolling Stones Brown Sugar My mom playing this loudly as an insurance agent knocked at our door. She blamed me! LOL
- ELO Roll Over Beethoven Listening to the radio forever so that I could record this song on cassette.
- Eagles New Kid in Town Boo loves the Eagles and sings this tune aloud.
- Various Going to a Go-Go A 12 inch disco medley that pulsated in the clubs.
- The Searchers Farmer John My sisters would play this 45 record over, and over, and over again.
- Van Morrison Blue Money Another favorite of my mom's.
- Peter Frampton Do You Feel Like We Do? Live stadium concert at Anaheim Stadium that totally rocked.

I've been very bad...

....because I've allowed this blog to languish and there really is no excuse. It's been pure laziness.

I visited a new Best Buy location in Sherman Oaks, CA this afternoon and I have to say, I had a very pleasant experience. Unusual, since it's a Best Buy. I actually had a sales associate approach and ask if I needed help and when I did need a price check the person actually answered my question. If this keeps up, I may shop there more often.

We ended up buying a DVD set of horror films directed by Japanese film makers. I have a fascination with foreign films, especially Japanese or Chinese films. If BB had the Chinese film The Red Lantern I would've bought that too.

We eyed the flat screen TVs as I'd like one for our bedroom. The current behemoth sucking up all the space on the stand is a 19" CRT with built-in DVD player that died within the first year. The sucker weighs a ton and I'd like the space for other stuff like candles and photos.

The prices have come down but I'm waiting for the sales to kick in. Unfortunately, a lot of folks are unemployed this holiday season and facing foreclosure, so I think retailers are going to have a hard sell, which means great sales!
