Ripping

So I've been ripping my CDs to MP3's (thank you Music Match) for transfer to my Creative Muvo and having a blast deciding which tracks to rip and making customized mixes on my SD cards. I've already decided that I need 512 meg and 1 gig SD cards for my birthday. Is anybody reading this???? LOL So far, I've made a disco mix, hey - I've never been shy or apologetic about my iinfinity for disco. It's a love affair that will not die!

I've also made my early rock mix with the Moody Blues, Led Zep, CCR, Stones, Steppenwolf, Aerosmith, Pink Floyd, the Kinks, Alice Cooperetc. and an 80s mix with the Eurythmics, Cyndi Lauper, The Talking Heads, Simply Red, Bruce Hornsby, Anita Baker, Stevie Wonder, Carly Simon, etc. So, I'm really enjoying myself and having fun tinkering with master mixes.

I know the next step is a hard drive model MP3 player, but I have a question for you lucky folks in possession of such models. How do you separate your music into genres? Or, I should probably ask, can you? I understand the idea of having most, if not all, of your music in a portable HD format, but how manageable is it? I like the idea of having easy and convenient access to different genres of music. On a hard drive model, is it possible to sort your music by folders and play only a selected folder or genre?

The Oscars have ended and it's time for the barricades, lighting, etc. to be disassembled and the boulevard returned to normal.

Looking west on Hollywood Bl., tourists are gathered in front of the Capitan theater and a man photographs the rental truck.

Looking east on Hollywood Blvd. No tourists are looking.
Take Me Back Tuesday
Let's hear it for the boys this week!

Since I focused on the ladies last week (and somehow managed to miss doing my own meme) this week will be all about the men.

1. Name three male artists you always enjoy listening to.
Elton John, Prince, John Denver.

2. Name three male artists you can't turn off quickly enough.
Michael Bolton, Barry Manilow, Kenny Rogers

3. Name one band you would love to be a roadie for, past or present.
Oh girl, you're gonna limit us to just one? Ugh, damn....okay, The Beatles.

Ponderings

So I took a train ride up to Hollywood today because the Oscars have ended and I figured I could actually walk around a little, maybe snap a few photos, enjoy the sunlight and chill. Afterall, most of the tourists should be gone by now or hitting the attractions besides Hollywood.

Sure enough, the barricades were coming down along with the lighting and scaffolding. The train ride there and back was interesting because I noticed how many people were lost in their own world, heads bobbing, feet tapping and some hands strumming. I wondered what kind of music they were listening to and if I'd like it or recognize the artist.

Then I read another interesting and exciting article about iPod DJing, the act of hooking up one's iPod to a club's system and playing tunes from their iPod for everyone to hear. The first time I read about this was an article in the New York Times. I'm intrigued by this and wonder if anyone frequents a club where they do this? I would think I have a club or coffeehouse in the L.A. area that's doing it. We're usually on the cutting edge. I just have to find it so I can check it out. I think it would be a total blast and a fantastic way to be turned on to new music.
