Ever feel excited but just as equally sad?

That's how I feel about my desktop computer. It didn't come back on Monday as I believed it would. Spouse's bud did upgrade the memory to 192 megs (it's an old machine requiring 100 bus RAM that's just too damned hard to come by now), the CDRW was shot (which I suspected, longer story) and the hard drive was fine, just that the damned CMOS got confused. Since when it's been ready, I don't know. Okay, so the old machine's operable, so why isn't it home yet?

Well, the bud's a real sweetheart and ordered a new machine. It's 2.6 mhz (a huge leap over what we had), has CDRW and DVD reader, 512 meg RAM minimum with ethernet port. And as much as I'm excited, I'm sad to see my old workhorse go. It's circa 2000 so it's certainly time for an upgrade. I think I'm a hopeless romantic. I have these wonderful memories of us going to Costco to buy the HP desktop and lugging it home. I was so excited and happy and spouse was giddy about my rapture.

We had waited until a Friday evening after work to go buy it and had to borrow our neighbor's SUV to fit all the large boxes. We'd learned from experience that our cars only hold so much and do not expand! LOL We rushed back home, where I spent the evening setting everything up and marvelled at the latest edition. I was up to the wee hours of the morning listening to music and burning CDs for our autos. Spouse had to come get me and tell me to go to bed.

Of course, the difficulty I have moving on, comes from the association of letting go of objects, meaning letting go of the memories. I have to change my thinking and realize that I still keep the happy moments. No one or nothing can take that away from me. I know I'm blessed and I do appreciate bud's gesture. I simply need to work this through and apply the chop chop skills used in cleaning the garage to the old desktop computer. It's served me well and was a great computer for five years. That's a lifetime when it comes to computers and the internet. LOL
