I live in Southern California and live the digital lifestyle. I love technology, engage in social networks and thanks to the Amazon Kindle enjoy reading again. I listen to many podcasts and am interested in the paranormal. I don't go ghost hunting or anything like that, but I love reading, viewing and listening to a great fright!

Let's go back in time...or maybe not ....to a time where you wanted to tell somebody something, but you didn't have the words...but later you heard a song...and it fit.
So here's this week's challenge:
Pick a person or a few people that you'd like to tell something in song. Tell us who they are...and what song you've chosen for them, and why.
Boo and I have so many songs that are the tapestry of our 27 years together, but one from our early days that I've never alluded to is The Stylistics You Make Feel Brand New. And it still holds true today.
Peanut I dedicate The O'Jays Back Stabbers to you. They smile in your face, all the time they wanna take your place, those back stabbers.
Triggs was my first real crush and, at the time, believed to be true love. Thankfully, it was just Gladys Knight's Imagination running away with me.
Alice was always dancing and singing as she enjoyed and embraced life. One of her favorite groups was Sly & the Family Stone and Hot Fun in the Summertime reminds me of summers long past and gone.
Rivers was a great gal who had a penchant for music, dance and partying that rivaled mine. She was hard to pin down and when J. finally did the impossible and we thought all was well he broke her heart. Rivers, It's a Heartache, nothing but a heartache.

10 songs that sum up your weekend...or were on your weekend playlist...and one picture that relates back. (oh, and if you feel like it, tell us why you picked the songs you did)
This was the Summer Jubiliee's third weekend but my first to attend and see as it was a sixties/seventies jam it's no surprise we made it! If there's one man that's looking super fine and fit it is Steppenwolf's John Kay. The man easily puts some 30 year olds I know to shame and is solid muscle through and through.
~ Pink Floyd The Wall
~ Steely Dan Peg
~ Joe Walsh Life's Been Good
~ Toto 99
~ Bryan Adams Have You ever really Loved
~ CSNY Wasted on the Way
~ Thunder Gimme Some Lovin'
~ Supertramp Dreamer
~ Rolling Stones Start Me Up
~ GNR Sweet Child O'Mine

I have been a fan of Three Dog Night and thought Chuck Negron quite handsome. I was totally stoked about Chuck performing solo at this year's Summer Jubilee and have eagerly awaited its arrival. It was a perfect night with the weather not oppressively hot and Chuck in fine form. His voice is strong and clear as ever and he sang many of TDN's hits. I never got to see them in their heyday, but last night came pretty darned close!
Oh, and he's still looking might fine and I enjoyed my eye candy!!

Top 5 bands that make you wonder "where are they now"
~ Led Zeppelin What are the surviving band mates up to?
~ GNR Why haven't you been able to regroup?
~ Simon & Garfunkel Your pipes are still in wonderful shape, why not use your God given talent to entertain and educate the masses?
~ The Eagles Everytime you guys reunite it's like magic, everything falls into place. Why do you have to wait until you're low on money to play together?
~ No Doubt Gwen's solo success is fabulous, can we get a new band album and tour?

Were you ever a member of any "music clubs"? Which ones? Are you still a member? I always wanted to join but my mom wouldn't let me. I finally joined a book club and, after making the requisite purchases, learned my lesson about "minimum purchase".
Columbia House used to offer 12 CDs for a penny. If you could choose 12 CDs what would they be. (Domestic releases only to make it realistic) Gosh, I'm so out of it these days, I totally don't know what's being offered. Any "old stuff" I already own!
What would you change about the music clubs?
~ The limited selection
~ Minimum purchase requirement
~ Paying for shipping on unwanted returned items
~ Automatic shipping of CD of the Month
~ Pricing structure. They're over priced and why must I pay sales tax!

10 songs that sum up your weekend...or were on your weekend playlist...and one picture that relates back. (oh, and if you feel like it, tell us why you picked the songs you did)
How perfect is it that we went to the Orange County Fair where it was easily 15 degrees cooler, we found fantastic parking, had a great time exploring exhibits we hadn't bother with before and saw the fireworks finale from Disneyland as we cruised the freeway? Yea, we cruised the freeway, as did everyone else, upon seeing the beautiful fireworks of Happy Faces, Mickey ears, large presents of blue, red and pink with white bows, etc. I think we drove the freeway at 40 MPH for a 1-1/2 mile stretch!
~ REO Speedwagon Take it on the Run
~ Bruce Hornsby & the Range Mandolin Rain
~ Tina Turner Simply the Best
~ Air Supply Lost in Love
~ Fleetwood Mac Big Love
~ Marianne Faithful The Ballad of Lucy Jordan
~ David Bowie Absolute Beginners
~ Cat Stevens Morning has Broken
~ Phil Collins Another Day in Paradise
~ Jackson Browne Somebodys Baby

Windows Vista
I received an email about the ease of integrating Vista into an existing network since so many nightmare stories are circulating on the net.
I had no problem connecting the new Vista machine into a Windows XP based wireless network. I have three WXP systems (one desktop and two notebooks) in the wireless network and added the Vista notebook.
The important distinction is that the Vista notebook is new and not an upgrade from WXP. Many program and driver conflicts stem from upgrading to Vista. The network immediately recognized the Vista machine and vice versa.
The one WXP machine that gave me a problem was remedied by clearing the Wireless Zero Configuration settings and reinstalling them. Go to Start, Settings, Control Panel, click Administrative Tools, click Services and scroll way down to Wireless Zero Configuration. Double click WZC and usually the setting default is Automatic. This is where you can toggle it off, etc.

Thirteen tech-related things I dislike:
~ Vaporware. Software that is announced while in development and is never released.
~ Trojan horses, viruses and malware. Programs developed for the sole purpose of wreaking havoc in your system (i.e. stealing passwords, recording every key stroke, etc.)
~ Companies that don't update their drivers. Drivers are the software that help printers, scanners, MP3 players, etc. work smoothly with your computer's operating system.
~ Telcos and Cable companies throttling down the broadband pipe when they feel a user is downloading too much stuff, regardless that the items are legal.
~ Spam. It's the scourge of the Net and what might make email unusable.
~ Wi-fi enabled MP3 players that make me connect to a computer so I can download podcasts.
~ Cell phone providers (Verizon) that cap a manufacturer's features. Verizon makes be buy ring tones instead of allowing me to connect my Razr via USB to my computer and directly download ring tones for free.
~ HD video podcasts. The file sizes are ridiculously huge and there's really no need for me to see every scar and pimple on the podcaster's face.
~ Telcos and cable companies bundling services (phone, movies and internet) that end up costing a lot just so the internet connectivity is below $20 per month. It's a rip off.
~ Tech support. Now there's a misnomer. Support implies help. Assistance. The few times I've called I did not receive help. I received a lot transferring around with the opportunity to explain my problem again and again.
~ Paying high prices for broadband service that is the equivalent of dial up in Japan and Korea. Their speeds and prices make the United States look like a third world country!
~ Power bricks. They're hogs and don't share when it comes to power strips. Why can't manufacturers miniaturize them to a standard size? Everything else is getting smaller.
~ Movie downloads. The video store is still my choice because I don't want to download a movie, wait 8 hours for it to completely download before viewing it and then have a scant 48 hours to view it before it disappears from my hard drive. With Hollywood Video I rent a movie and can watch it immediately or have 5 days to view it.

10 songs that sum up your weekend...or were on your weekend playlist...and one picture that relates back. (oh, and if you feel like it, tell us why you picked the songs you did)
Oh dear, why did I have to find this Hello Kitty Baby Grand Piano? Of course, I like Hello Kitty a lot and could naturally find some way of squeezing this in to my home. I don't believe Boo would be very happy or supportive about it but, what the heck, I'll only live once! I had a long fabulous holiday weekend and I was in no hurry to return to work. Sometimes it seems that the more time off, the harder it is to hit the grindstone.
~ Don Henley The End of Innocence
~ Chris Isack Wicked Game
~ Christopher Cross Say You'll Be Mine
~ Bob Seger Main Street
~ ZZ Top Legs
~ Pat Benetar Hit Me with Your Best Shot
~ Huey Lewis & the News Do You Believe in Love
~ CSNY Suite Judy Blue Eyes
~ David Bowie Ashes to Ashes
~ Paul McCartney Coming Up

I've been listening to and enjoying podcasts for awhile now and what first attracted me was it's simplicity, the plethora of podcasts with something of interest to me, convenience taking it with me wherever I went (especially while commuting) and no commercials unlike commercial radio.
Now that prices on high def video cams is rapidly decreasing, more podcasters are switching to video and this has me upset. I like to listen to my podcasts not watch someone recording the show. Unless you're showing me something compelling like a demo or lesson with props, I really don't care to see you.
I can easily glean the information I want by simply listening. That was the beauty of early podcasts. I would download a small file, plug my MP3 player into a FM transmitter and listen as I ran errands or commuted to work. I didn't have to deal with sluggish downloads and hoggish file sizes eating up hard drive space because the podcast is in hi-def video.
The podcasts that have switched to video should've remained in audio format, because they're not doing anything that requires me to see them to enjoy them. Maybe podcasters are becoming narcissitic, but I listen to podcast for the edutainment value and not because I have an obsessive need to know what the podcaster looks like. Isn't that what the label art is for?

The doldrums of summer have been great even with the slight humidity we've been experiencing. The news is still reporting stories about kids blowing their fingers off with illegal fireworks and it's a preventable tragedy that makes it all the sadder. This year was quieter than last and we haven't heard anymore fireworks which is good.
The A/C's running at full speed and we're comfortably cool, even Buddah's taken to it and doesn't mind the noise. When he gets too cold he simply lies curled up in his blanket wheezing! I am off to enjoy canteloupe with vanilla ice cream and watch last night's episode of Burn Notice.
Ooooh, tonight's the night....The Doctor is making house calls again on the SciFi network and I am so ready. Woo hoo, summer has become more of the TV viewing season for me with shows like Psych, Monk, Eureka, Doctor Who, The 4400 The Closer, Burn Notice and The Dead Zone.

We've transitioned from DSL to Cable internet because the DSL was just too darned slow. I download a lot of podcasts and I noticed that the download time was taking longer and longer, as if the ISP was throttling down the speed based on the amount of downloads. Well I didn't appreciate this in the least, since all I ever downloaded is podcasts and it's not everyday this occurs.
Thus far the cable has been totally fantastic. My downloads are completed in lightning fast time and there haven't been any glitches. I pretty much turn off everything when I'm away (I have everything set up on timers), so the service can't be abused. Installation was a breeze and the tech arrived on time.
The one thing he wouldn't do was connect the cable modem to the router. I guess corporate wants the customer to buy/rent the router from them. No problem though, since I set up the network I know how to configure things. My experience with Charter Communications, I've been a customer of theirs for over 20 years, has been positive. Sure I've had to call repair a few times, but they always keep their appointment and arrive on time.

10 Things to Do Before You Die
~ Lose weight. Hey, even in death you want to look good, right?
~ Sky dive. So what if I'm afraid of heights, I want to experience the feeling of free falling in space as I scream my head off.
~ Take a helicopter ride.
~ Learn to swim.
~ Get a digital SLR. I know it sounds ridiculous but since I haven't been able to justify the expense it's looking less likely.
~ Walk a marathon.
~ Get my paperwork in order.
~ Go to Italy.
~ Backpack a popular trail for a week or two.
~ Bike a marathon.
