Dissatisfied Jeep Chrysler Customer

I still appreciate and respect an old fashioned protest by a hard working customer. Many folks take to the Net to voice their dissatisfaction with a product or service and this method does serve a global purpose. But, for the regional folks who either don't Google this specific dealership or my city, they'll never know how this particular man feels about his purchase. I think this squeaky wheel will receive rapt attention from Jeep Chrysler!

Odeo's Demise...

......has left me very sad. I wish Blogger had bought the service since it integrated so well and easily with their blogs. It was so convenient to record an audio entry in Odeo and simply cut and paste the entry into my Blogger account. The audio would seamlessly play from within Blogger and the listener didn't have to do anything other than click the entry.

I don't know which company bought Odeo, but they've rapidly let it go down the tubes, which is so unfortunate because Odeo had a loyal user base. The site launched when podcasting was just catching fire, so I don't understand how it could fail.

If Odeo had no users then I could understand its parent company wanting to offload it, but it did have users and provided a valuable service for free. I thought Odeo's original creators would care about selling the service to a company intent on maintaining and improving it. Alas, they didn't care and it's my loss.

Take Me Back Tuesday

Let's go CD shopping!

Back in the day before the internet ruled the earth and people went to malls etc...

What was your favorite record store? Wow, I hadn't thought about Music Plus in eons. They were the ultimate music store for me and I would easily drop $50 each visit. I bought LPs, 45s, cassette tapes, cassette tape holders/carriers, CDs, black light poster art, audio/video cables, concert tickets, etc.

Are there any non-chain stores that you still frequent for your music needs? Non-chain? How about plain old CD stores? Let's see, I have Amoeba Records in Hollywood which is about twenty miles from me. I used to have used CD stores in my area called Penney Lane, but they're also "out of business".

What was your favorite "find" at your favorite store? Awesome concert seating. This is when you could camp out at the store and if you were fifth in line, you were fifth to buy your tickets. None of this junk of being assigned a random number: your fifth in line and given number 56. Right.

Random Ten
10 songs that sum up your weekend...or were on your weekend playlist...and one picture that relates back. (oh, and if you feel like it, tell us why you picked the songs you did)

I thought about Kiss after hearing that guitarist Paul Stanley had to miss a performance at the Soboba Casino in Riverside, CA because his heart rate rose to 190 and wouldn't decrease. Emergency personnel had to stop his heart and then restart it again. Talk about a scary experience! Of the Kiss band members Paul and Gene Simmons are the standing regulars.

~ Kiss Rock and Roll All Night
~ Dire Straits Money for Nothing
~ The Eagles Tequila Sunrise
~ John Lennon Jealous Guy
~ U2 With or Without You
~ Bruce Springsteen Dancing in the Dark
~ Hall & Oates I Can’t go for that
~ Queen We are the Champions
~ Bryan Adams Run to You
~ Supertramp Take the Long Way Home

Inexpensive Audio Recording Device

I'd like to find something that allows saving files to MP3 or .wav and
is priced below $99 after sales tax. None of the MP3 players I own
record audio, some do and this is a nice feature that I didn't consider
at the time.

I need something compact and lightweight with a recording time of thirty
minutes minimum, preferably sixty minutes. It needs to be unobtrusive
and use AAA or AA batteries I can't be running around looking for a
proprietary battery type at the most inopportune moment - Murphy's Law.

If you have suggestions, please share.

DVR Freak Out Moment

So last Saturday night I went to check the living room DVR and make certain it still had room to record, it's a DVR included in our cable box. I turned it on and received "A Fatal Disc Write Error" message that caused my hair to stand.

Shocked and scared, I immediately turned it off, waited a few minutes and then tried again. I received the same message and pressing a variety of buttons didn't change a thing. I turned it off before Boo saw it and went to bed.

Sunday morning I checked the cable/DVR box and was greeted by the same message. Fear entrenched itself in the pit of my stomach because I knew the DVR had to be at least 80% full. It contained all of the summer season episodes of Psych, Monk, Eureka and Doctor Who that's a lot of shows to miss.

Now I rarely phone the cable company as Boo handles it, but since I knew Boo would freak worse than me, I decided I'd better handle it. Well several "Can you please hold?", "The screen is still blank?" and audible sighs of concern/stress from the Charter tech minutes later the issue was successfully resolved and all of our recorded shows reappeared.

This experience opened my eyes though, because what if Charter couldn't solve the problem? The sole solution is trade out the cable/DVR box and with it ALL saved recordings. My cable company doesn't back up any of the recorded programs saved on the DVR. Since I don't own the box, I can't alter it by adding a second drive. We would be totally screwed!

So try not to fill your Cable DVR box to the gills. You never know when it will die on you and with it all of your favorite can't miss shows.

Thursday Thirteen

Thirteen Things I remember about my Dad

~ As long as Dad had a deck of cards he could keep me entertained while
teaching me crucial strategy skills.
~ He loved to watch the bull fights and to this day is the only man I've
ever known to watch them. I still can't bear to watch.
~ He was very religious without blindly following the clergy. He would
have been sad to learn of the ongoing sexual abuse that was covered up
by bishops and cardinals. He would have reminded me that they are mere
mortals - men - first and foremost.
~ He was always very neatly dressed with shoes shined. He believed in
having very clean shoes.
~ He loved my mom's cooking and his favorite cuisine was Mexican.
~ He always wore two rings: one on his ring finger and another on his
left pinky.
~ Dad always had beard stubble no matter what. He would shave with
shaving cream and the old razors but still had "five o'clock shadow"!
LOL
~ The one time I really needed him he was there.
~ He'd made several attempts to quit smoking but didn't make it. All the
new Non-Smoking ordinances would have driven him nuts!
~ He didn't drive and felt no shame about it. He was very much his own
man.
~ He had a large stride and I would have to run to keep up with him.
~ Basically every conversation with dad was an opportunity to learn a
new lesson or moral.
~ He loved to go to the horse races. I don't know if he placed bets, but
he liked the atmosphere and freebies.
~ He taught me to take pride in anything I do and to not skimp on
details.
