I live in Southern California and live the digital lifestyle. I love technology, engage in social networks and thanks to the Amazon Kindle enjoy reading again. I listen to many podcasts and am interested in the paranormal. I don't go ghost hunting or anything like that, but I love reading, viewing and listening to a great fright!

It's going to be a wet New Year's Eve! It's been raining since this morning and I'm glad I didnt' go grocery shopping as I'd planned, because the cable installer arrived an hour earlier.
The poor guy said he normally does five installs daily, today they chose to saddle him with ten - double the load on a very cold, rainy day. And, no surprise, he wants to go home early today!
I was prepared as far as having the TV moved away from the wall, the notebook setup and the desk free of any obstruction. Still, it took him forty five minutes to install because he had to drill from the basement. I can't begin to imagine what a dusty and muddy mess that was!
I've checked out the cable and do not find it much faster than my DSL. I've downloaded a large file that I'd previously downloaded and it took the same time. Unless the speed dramatically improves over the six months we have free service, I'm sticking with the less expensive DSL!
Okay, I'm off to pick up the prime rib for tomorrow's dinner, supper and a movie. Everyone be safe!

Top Five Musical Resolutions
~ Attend more concerts
~ Buy a new CD each month (even if it's not a current artist)
~ Try buying some songs via iTunes (a huge shift for me, because I'm a die hard CD in the hand liner notes kind of gal!)
~ Make more mix CDs for listening in the car
~ Create custom Play Lists on my iPod
To the reader, this is nothing challenging, for me however, it is. I seem to always keep runnig against time and it's the little things that quickly get lost in the shuffle.

No sooner have I posted my resolutions than I'm already breaking one by not posting! Well, the New Year hasn't officially arrived yet, so there's hope.
Had a very busy day today and also saw King Kong. What can I say, the film's a CGI feast and cinematically gorgeous. The way King Kong's treated, though, left me feeling very sad. Overall, I left the theater feeling very sad and slightly disappointed.
I offer no spoilers about the story or anything else. It is a film that should be viewed on the big screen. Make time to see it and let me know your thoughts. Am I being overly sensitive?
I also bought Depeche Mode's latest CD Playing with the Angel and I'm really excited about them having something new. It's been awhile. I haven't had time to listen to it, but will do so over the weekend.
Weather-wise, I'm glad it didn't rain today. It's rained off and on this week and I know we're expecting a very wet New Year. We shall see!

In honor of the spirit of the season, this week's word is holiday
This is Disneyland's tree in Main Street, Anaheim, CA. In celebration of their 50th year, the tree's decorated in gold ornaments and white lights. It's absolutely gorgeous and the Christmas Tree symbolizes the holiday season like nothing else.

This is it for me, the final work day of 2005 and I can't say that I'm sorry or wish it wasn't so.
Not that the year's been bad. Quite the contrary, it's been very good and I have a lot to be thankful for. Work-wise it's been a fantastic year!
I'm simply looking forward to 2006 and am optimistic about what the new year will bring. In the meantime, I'm ready to enjoy a fabulous four day weekend.
I have an old desktop computer to move. A notebook computer to replace it with, thus freeing a spot. A new notebook to set up in the freed space and the cable company coming to install our free internet. Thank God for class action lawsuits! LOL
I have several foreign films I'd like to see and photos to work on. Yes, I've been inspired lately. Don't know why the photo drought occurred, but it did.

Rules of the game: Post five weird and random facts about yourself, then at the end list the names of five people who are next in line to do this. Don't forget to leave a them comment that saying "You are tagged" in their blogs and tell them to read yours!
~ I love the smell of leather and will enter a store for a quick fix!
~ I can have blog entries typed and ready for posting days in advance and suddenly, delete them for no reason.
~ I used to be more of a dog lover. Now, it's all about cats.
~ Solutions to my problems/challenges come to me in my sleep. I dream about them!
~ I can't carry a tune to save my life, but I love singing anyways!
I'm not tagging anyone, but if you care to play, please do!

10 New Year's Resolutions
Well, looking back at 2005s resolutions, I didn't do well at all!
First mis-step, I didn't finish reading one book. I got as far as reading two thirds of one and then promptly stopped. Another was 50% completed before my attention was diverted elsewhere. Also, I didn't buy the new auto, get my own domain, visit Vegas, or send photo Christmas cards. Hell, I didn't send cards - period!
So for this year, what shall I publicly commit myself to, only to have to admit defeat later?
~ Purchase a new Apple Intel notebook. Yes, I've been wanting an Apple for sometime, but when I got wind of their conversion to Intel processors, well, there was no reason to waste my money on an outgoing and dated platform.
~ Try buying music online. Yep, iTunes Music store, here I come - I'm a sucker!!
~ Buy one new CD per month. I'm not committing to buying what's current, but one new physical CD of an artist I like. I've gotta show the labels that there are buyers out here who prefer the packaging, replete with liner notes!
~ Okay, this is a stretch and I know it, I want to read one book. I had set two books in 2005 and uh well, we know how that turned out.
~ Vegas here I come. Twice we had the oppotunity, complete with room reservations, once Boo changed plans and the other I canceled. Can two people please make a decision! LOL
~ More road trips. 2005 was good, I want 2006 to be even better!
~ Stay organized and focused.
~ Spend more quality time with family and friends.
~ Blog regularly. My posts have become very erratic.
~ Keep my doctor appointments!
Bonus:
~ "I'm Free!". Tell me my path, Lord.

We took a drive to the beach today and as we were walking about, I told Boo about the weather not being so nice. Then it occurred to me, it was mid-sixties, the sun was shining and I was wearing a denim jacket in winter. I guess the So Cal girl in me got a little lost.
I was shocked at how great traffic was. Life here can be all about waiting. Waiting for traffic to flow. Waiting for someone to end their cell phone convo, so the rest of us can move. Waiting for a parking space as the driver chats on the cell phone. Waiting for someone to end their cell phone call, so I can enjoy my meal in peace.
You get the idea. So you know I loved this woman's bumper stickers!

We went to a few sales at Borders Books and Target (my favorite store!) and I have to say, the parking was easy and accessible and the lines at the cashier non-existent. The non-existent lines may be what contributed to a purchase total of $70.
We bought about nine page a day calendars for friends and co-workers. We tried giving different gifts and received disappointed looks and complaints. So it's become tradition that we supply calendars. Lucky for us, we won't see any of them until we return to work tomorrow, we lucked out again! LOL The average calendar is $13.95 so we ended up paying half!
Ahem, we realized how close we'd cut it when we arrived in Border's calendar section. It was looking pretty scarce, but closer inspection showed we had everything we needed.
It's possible that today's rain kept folks home and in bed. If I could've slept longer, I gladly would have. These days it seems I can't sleep past 7:30 a.m. I awaken like clockwork and am rarin' to go. Boo did most of the damage today and I can't be blamed for anything!! LOL

10 songs that sum up your weekend...or were on your weekend playlist...and one picture that relates back. (oh, and if you feel like it, tell us why you picked the songs you did)
I bought this CD on Friday morning, between picking up the Honey Baked ham and shopping at Wild Oats. I was intrigued by the eclectic mix. We listened to it on the road trip.
~ Joyeux Noel - New York Twoubadou
~ We Three Kings - Michael Doucet
~ White Christmas - Los Reyes
~ Deck The Hall - Cuba L.A.
~ What Child Is This - Dan Crary
~ Venid Fieles Todos (Adeste Fidelis) - Liuba Maria Hevia
~ St. Nicholas - Sheryl Cormier & Cajun Sounds
These were played at my in-laws. Hadn't heard the Platters in years. Boy, they're definitely from a bygone era!
~ The Platters Only You
~ The Platters The Great Pretender
~ Dino Baby, It's cold outside!

The days have been quite hectic for Boo and I. In fact, it could be said that I've been stressing and a bit moody. Yea, I'll fess up. So today we got out and drove to one of our favorite haunts. As I sat and observed Boo eating, it occurred to me how truly blessed I am and how I hadn't thanked God for this day. Bear with me, this led me to reflect on recognizing and appreciating five simple pleasures today.
~ Living to see and experience another day
~ Dining at a new restaurant a friend recommended and having a wonderful time
~ Exploring a new curio shop and finding lots of fun and cool things
~ Feeling the cool breeze chill my body despite three layers of clothing!
~ Talking with Boo and laughing. It seemed like forever since we'd done that.

"Top 5 "Musical" gifts you'd like to receive this year"
Oh boy, is this a loaded question or what?!
I'd like a 30 gig iPod (although the Nano's very sexy. Yes, I referred to an inanimate object as sexy!)
iTunes gift card (this way, if I don't like buying through iTunes, I won't feel bad because I had to use my gift card)
Circuit City gift card for future CD purchases
iHome for the iPod (it's a clock radio with speakers that I can put on my headboard and wake up to)
Concert tix to a variety of concerts

10 Things You Want for Christmas
~ May my loved ones be in good health and spirits.
~ Cousin R. and his mom to be home from the hospital and healing, respectively.
~ Uncle C. to keep his sight.
~ Roadrunner not to lose her home.
~ May the hate, prejudice and anger in the world suside substantially. I don't think it can ever completely disappear, but each one of us could do one thing to make a difference.
~ God to answer the prayers of those I love and care for.
~ iHome for iPod
~ iGriffin for iPod (to listen in the car)
~ Fry's gift certificate (I spend a lot of time at Fry's, as I buy most flash memory there.)
~ Circuit City gift certificate (I buy a lot of CDs and DVDs from them. Their prices can't be beat!)

It's looking like another rainy day in So Cal, dreary and overcast. We ran errands to Wal*Mart, which was packed with shoppers. The lines snaked through the store, but the carts seemed filled with sundry items and not necessarily Christmas presents. We were accosted by the usual sights and sounds of many shopping centers: the Salvation Army bell ringer, two to three adults seeking charitable donations on behalf of unknown organizations and children selling $2 candy bars for school?
The whole commercialization was a bit much, quite honestly, and I found myself ducking and retreating to the car. The bell ringer, the hats with signs being shoved in my path, the kids holding candy bars high in the air - it all gave me a massive headache. Now that I'm back home, I'm relaxing with a glass of Cranberry Grape juice and listening to my latest CD purchase: Mariah Carey's Merry Christmas. There's a lot of accompaniment by a choir and I love Mariah's rendition of Hark! The Herald Angels Sing and Jesus Oh What a Wonderful Child.
I'm fixing a bowl of popcorn and watching Mr. & Mrs. Smith. I'm ready for a low key evening and the warmth and comfort of my home. Buddah's all set and waiting for a lap to lay on!

I have a Christmas Mix CD I'd like to send, but for the life of me, I can't make a CD jacket replete with artwork and song titles. This has been a frustrating experience and, as time whizzes by, I'm inclined to just send it sans artwork. I'll just slap the title on the CD and include a print out of the songs. The thing is, I would prefer it looked nice like Music Whore's. Her stuff always looks great!
I can't see wasting anymore time on it, though. If I do, by the time they look perfect for moi, it will be too late for my recipients to enjoy. I've had the postage set up, etc. and it's not worth expending more energy on. So, if you're one of the unlucky to receive one from me, no comments on the lack of a CD Jacket - please! Sometimes less is more. LOL Of course, if you want to offer me tips, I'm always open to suggestions.

It's been so cold in the mornings, I don't want to leave the house. I had to get gas this morning (I was driving on fumes), so I drove to Costco. Now Costco accepts only ATM/debit cards, Costco Cash cards or specific brand credit cards. I didn't have my ATM card, but luckily Boo had given me a Costco Cash card (which I've now expended).
As I was gasing up, I felt my hands stinging from the bitter cold and wished I had worn gloves (I have like five pairs). I took a good look at those around me and all were wearing wool coats, hats and scarves or hooded jackets - I was the only one wearing a denim jacket! LOL So, it's time to upgrade to the wool and cashmere and that's what I'm going to do now, as I prepare for the rest of the work week. Have a good evening!

10 Household Chores You Hate
~ Vacuuming (it's a pain in the back!)
~ Yard work (I don't have a green thumb and wish the dry things would just blow away!)
~ Dusting (I'm always afraid I'll break a Tiffany lamp)
~ Sorting through junk mail (if allowed to pile up, I could fill two grocery bags in one week)
~ Cleaning the ceiling (they're quite high and tough on the back)
~ Picking up after myself (Boo's very patient with my CDRs and books. I like having my stuff Around)
~ Ironing (Yea, every so often I have to steam iron something and it's every blue moon cuz I hate it so much!)
~ Washing curtains (first I have to remove them, wash them, then place them back)
~ Moving furniture to clean (again, hard on the back)
~ Windows (I do not clean windows)

~ Gladys Knight & the Pips Heard it through the Grapvine

Holiday Decorations
We've been enjoying the lights and all of the new decorations. There are some spectacularly decorated houses in our area and I always enjoy checking them out. The Griswold's (that's us) have decided not to decorate this year. We need a break. It's a lot of work and we have been too busy.
Also our neighbor, who's normally quite cooperative (we must access her terrace), is also too busy to allow access. Hey, it's a hectic time of year and it's not surprising. We're all hauling ass and spinning wheels, feeling like we've accomplished Nothing. We'll be back next year!
