Howdy Doody
This scary little guy was hanging around on stage near the bass drum. Unfortunately, there was too much movement for me to adequately capture him, but I think you get the feeling!
I live in Southern California and live the digital lifestyle. I love technology, engage in social networks and thanks to the Amazon Kindle enjoy reading again. I listen to many podcasts and am interested in the paranormal. I don't go ghost hunting or anything like that, but I love reading, viewing and listening to a great fright!

You Tube...
is really pissing me off. I tried in vain for over an hour to upload a video in preparartion for later today and my Day in The Life post. After being told to "Wait patiently. This may take time." and watching the progress bar remain immobile, I finally gave up and logged out of the site.
I know they've experienced a popularity explosion and their servers may be huffing and puffing, but put a status notice or something for crying out loud. Apprise your member of what's going on and even suggest that return later if you're doing upgrades.

Woo hoo!
We have cloud cover, cooler temps and a nice breeze today. We're running the fans instead of the A/C, which might help the sticker shock we'll soon receive. Oh, did I mention that the electric bill post-A/C totaled $280? According to Boo it could be worse, I don't see it but then, does it really matter? The bill must be paid regardless.
So now I'm seeing more people out and about and we're getting ready to run errands. I hope this weather lasts because for the first time in California's history we have approximately 100 heat related deaths and of course, many victims were the elderly. I am not hoping to repeat the weather of the past two weeks.

Top 5 On Friday
Top 5 songs you currently can't get enough of.
~ Zero 7 In the Waiting Line
~ Prince Love
~ Duran Duran Mash up Notorious Trick Mash up
~ Elton John Your Sister can Twist
~ Natives of the New Dawn People
Just returned from checking outside where another car chase has ended. The joke is that L.A. is the car chase capital of the world. The pursuit began in Pasadena (home of the Rose Parade) and ended in Alhambra about 1 mile from my home.
I was listening to the news as I blogged and when they reported the driver was traveling south from Pasadena to Huntington Dr. (a major thoroughfare that crisscrosses several cities) I thought the crazy driver might pass through my town. I heard several helicopters and knew he'd arrived.

Feline Thursday
It takes a male cat nine to twelve months to reach full growth, while a female cat takes only five to eight months.
It's wonderful to have Little Girl back and be able to leave her out during the day and return home to find her. It's been too hot to confine her in the garage and she's a little monkey when it comes to keeping her indoors.
On three occasions we tried placing her in the bathroom. Buddah would have run of the house but LG would be in the bathroom wih fan, open window and all the necessities. We spent so much time trying to corral her that we were almost late arriving to work! LOL NTS, Little Girl won each and every attempt.

Take Me Back Tuesday
In all seriousness, it's so damn hot here I think my brain would be fried if not for the air conditioner we got.
So keep cool and think cool. Because that my friends is our topic this week.
The definition of cool.
We're talking Big Band, Swing, Jazz, Classical....whatever it is you listen to in hopes of taking your mind off the heat. Maybe the Beatles do it for you. Or Klaus and the rest of those German metalheads.
Whatever it may be, it's all up to you.
Artist. Songs. Albums.
Cool artists:
The Beach Boys, Steppenwolf, Sly & the Family Stone
Cool songs:
George Benson On Broadway
The Eagles Tequila Sunrise
Don Henley All She Wants to do is Dance
Cool Albums:
Cyndi Lauper
Annie Lennox
Hilary Stagg
Yea, the heat's abating in the Los Angeles basin and there are many people rejoicing! We'll be in the high nineties tomorrow, not bad considering where we were during the weekend. I am not looking forward to our electrical bill and we will likely regret our decision to run the A/C as long as we did but....

Random Ten
10 songs that sum up your weekend...or were on your weekend playlist...and one picture that relates back. (oh, and if you feel like it, tell us why you picked the songs you did
The neighbors are gone for a week so I'm cat sitting Emmitt. She's a sweetie and a cutie and I felt terrible for her in this heat. All that fur must make for a very long, hot day. I made sure she had the fans on full blast and the A/C on high. Oh and water with uh...ice cubes!
I let iTunes spin the tunes this weekend and it went for a classic rock theme. All of it good music that evoked fond memories and entertained as I sweltered.
~ David Bowie Heroes
~ Duran Duran Come Undone
~ Led Zeppelin The Wanton Song
~ Three Dog Night Chest Fever
~ Elton John Philadephia Freedom
~ Billy Preston Nothing from Nothing
~ Bobbie Gentry Ode to Billie Joe Hadn't heard this one in awhile. It's always been a favorite though, I can't say why. I just enjoy it so when I hear it. It's an unexplainable gem.
~ The Moody Blues Questions
~ Rod Stewart Angel
~ Mott the Hoople All the way to Memphis

A Day in My Life
Yea for storm clouds! Forget that they brought no rain to my area, the point is they arrived and blocked the sun's intensity. We have been boiling in 103 degree plus temps and after six days of this we surrender!
Even the beach communities are hot, don't forget overcrowded, too. Belmont Shores has great restaurants within walking distance of the pier and in this stifling front many descended and spent their money on food and drink.

Microsoft's iPod Killer
Microsoft announced Friday its plan to introduce a new MP3 player with wireless connectivity. The wireless connectivity will be a coup, unless Apple introduces a revamped iPod, because then I can update my music library on the fly instead of waiting until I get home/office to connect it to a computer.
I am less enthused about the music downloads. I am not a big fan of renting music or "paying to play". The fact that Apple has a vast music library and allows me to own the songs I buy, will keep Apple way ahead of any newcomers.
Still, it would be wonderful for Microsoft to usurp Apple and give them a real run for the hard earned dollar. iTunes certainly has room for improvement and all things being equal, there is no incentive for them at this time to improve iTunes. iPod users are sitting ducks!

Weird Habits Meme
The first player of this game starts with the topic “five weird habits of yourself,” and people who get tagged need to write an entry about their five weird habits as well as state this rule clearly. In the end, you need to choose the next people to be tagged and link to their web journals. Don’t forget to leave a comment in their blog or journal that says “You have been tagged” (assuming they take comments) and tell them to read yours.
Five weird things about me:
~ I do not like gardening because I don't like getting my hands dirty.
~ I don't eat the yoke of an egg, whether hard boiled or sunny side up.
~ I never walk barefoot.
~ I eat all the crust around my bread first.
~ I must wear socks to bed or I can't sleep.

Feline Thursday
Before leaving your pet with a sitter, make sure the person knows your cat's likes and dislikes and what the house rules are.
Of course, your cat can always be like Buddah and make the house rules, in which case, it doesn't matter who you tell, his rules will always prevail. The wise Buddah sitting on his zafu as soon as I vacated. I sat on the steps for the remainder of the evening!

Take Me Back Tuesday
Get up and dance!
Every few years another line dance becomes popular. What line dances have you heard of and can you do any? How about the hustle and cabbage patch. I could do these and boy, were they fun. There are a whole bunch whose names I don't know.
What is your favorite type of music to dance to? Disco or dance music. Techno is good for zoning out and swaying like a zombie. LOL
Do you have a favorite place to dance? Where? Pretty much all my dancing is done at home or at concerts. I don't do the club scene anymore.
Are you familiar with disco? Do you have any favorite disco songs or do you believe that disco should stay dead? FAamiliar with disco??? You ask as if it's a prehistoric specimen. Of course I'm familiar with disco...it's what everyone loves to hate but fails to see that dance music has copied...beat by pulsating beat!
Some fave disco tunes:
Patrick Hernandez Born to be Alive
The Weather Girls I Love Men
The Village People San Francisco, YMCA
Donna Summer Bad Girls, Sunset People, Spring Affair, I Feel Love
Sylvester The Disco Heat
I could on and on. LOL
What bands do you think of when you think of dance music? Today's dance music is Britney Spears, Madonna, Pink, Gwen Stefani, Erasure.

Get up and dance!

Random Ten
10 songs that sum up your weekend...or were on your weekend playlist...and one picture that relates back. (oh, and if you feel like it, tell us why you picked the songs you did
Even though we're Beatles fans, the price for this cookie jar is too steep for me. Also, we don't eat cookies that often, it's awfully cute!
~ Everything But the Girl Miss You
~ Marvin Gaye Dance with Me
~ Weird Al You're Pitiful
~ Garbage Special
~ Elton John & John Lennon Whatever Gets You Through the Night
~ Give Me da Nightclub Mash up (George Benson's Give me the Night v. 50 Cent In Da Club)
~ Ringo Starr It Don't come Easy
~ Zero 7 In the Waiting Line
~ Entropy Looking to the Future

Stitching
Obviously I haven't mastered the art of "stitching" photo segments together. It probably has a lot to do with not using a tripod and inadequate lighting. Toting a tripod is a hassle, especially in situations where doing so would mean blocking a pathway, etc. I don't have any external lighting, though, I've threatened to invest in it.

Meme From Clueless..
Thanks for tagging me, hon. I love being challenged (as I believe you've gathered) and it's a great way to learn about and from each other, no?
Five countries I'd like to visit:
~ Italy
~ Japan
~ New Zealand
~ Costa Rica
~ China
Five programs I watch on TV:
~ Grey's Anatomy (bought season one on DVD)
~ Desperate Housewives
~ The Dead Zone
~ The 4400
~ Monk (Oh he is so weird and neurotic - I love this show!)
And so many more but Clueless says only five, so five it is!
Five favourite foods:
~ Chicken
~ Pizza
~ Slippery shrimp (a delicious dish at Yang Chow's. All diners order this dish and it's delightful!!)
~ Homemade lasagna
~ Pozole (a spicy caldo/soup similar to menudo, which I do not eat, but not made from tripe. Pozole can be made with chicken or pork meat and it's better than menudo.)
Five things in my medicine cabinet (this one's a little strange but ok..)
~ Hydrogen peroxide
~ Rubbing alcohol
~ Floss
~ Q-Tips
~ Facial creams
Five people who are tagged:
Um, I won't tag anyone but feel free to participate. The more the merrier and fun it becomes.

"Music makes You Lose Control"
So go the lyrics of a song whose title escapes me at the moment. TGIF! Tomorrow evening will be another music fest celebration in my town with plenty of food, entertainment, music and crafts. Hordes of people with descend on my town and we'll mix in the delightful 95 degree plus weather! LOL

Top 5 songs you're ashamed to admit that you like
Oh boy, now you're going for the jugular...okay, I'll fess up this once and then no more. Music Memoirs has to promise to leave this subject alone. Hey, if you don't know the artist name by the initials and song title, tough!
Okay these two hail from my disco days and contrary to popular belief, disco is not dead, like everything else, today's youth has just repackaged it and called it dance music - same difference, people.
~ Abba Dancing Queen
~ K. C. & the Sunshine Band Boogie Man
~ D.C. I Think I Love You I was listening to this song last weekend. It's fun. It's corny and I love it. LOL
~ The Monkees In this Generation Another tune I listened repeatedly listened to last weekend. I was in a nostalgic mood and happy to have a portable CD player again.
~ Tom Jones What's New Pussycat Hey, no heckling from the rear seats alright. Stand up and be counted or shush already.

Feline Thursday
Not interested in more than one cat? Solitary cats that receive plenty of human attention do very well. Some actually prefer to be the only cat in the household.
There is no doubt that our Buddah prefers being the lone cat in the household. He rules with an iron paw and obviously, we're alright with that! LOL

Miscellany
Our heat wave is finally subsiding and it couldn't come soon enough for everyone around me. It's a brief respite, however, since they're forcasting temps in 90s/100s with humidity come Thursday and peaking during the weekend. I'm not saying a word to anyone and just minding my own business! LOL
It's been a dearth for concerts this season. We're not enthused about anyone that's coming into town. There seems to be an abundance of reunions - mainly acts from the sixties and seventies - and I just can't see paying $75 each for nosebleed seating. I guess there's hope for next summer.
So this summer we're attending film festivals and gasp, watching plays. Yes, Boo is taking me to a play and there are others on the horizon. It's up to me to decide which to see on what date. I'm excited and can't wait; I'm sure Boo can wait but is too gracious to say anything.
I still have not viewed the new Madonna CD/DVD I'm going to Tell You a Secret. I thought I'd get to it Fourth of July weekend but no such luck. It's just been to darned busy. Has anyone elese viewed it? If so, what did you think?

Take Me Back Tuesday
I've been thinking on this one.
And the phrase "It's a fine line between love and hate" is ringing in my brain.
I'm beginning to feel like the Chairman on the original Iron Chef searching for inspiration.
And then it hit me.
The orient.
I kid. That one requires way too much googling. But go ahead if you feel adventurous.
For the rest of us too drained by the heat and humidity of summer, it's Love or Hate.
Songs, artists, albums. Either contain the words or evoke the emotions.
Have at 'er.
Songs that I Hate
Gene Kelly Singing in the Rain
James Brown It's a Man's World
Starland Vocal Band Afternoon Delight (this song makes me absolutely nuts!)
Artists that I Hate
Kenny Rogers, Britney Spears, Marc Anthony
Albums that I Hate
Soundtrack to The Sound of Music
Santana All that I Am
Celine Dion A New Day has Come
Ah, this was not only fun but quite cathartic! Great question this week and I didn't post what I love because - well, it's what I post about almost every week in one form or another. But acknowledging what I hate well, that was quite the twist! LOL

In L.A. Everyone's a Star
We attended a film festival on Sunday and while waiting in line to enter (Boo was at the Will Call window) a woman and man approached the couple in front of me.
Female to everyone: "Oh, it's the star of the film!"
2nd Female: "Hi, how are you?"
Star?: "I'm just fine. I have to go and get my tickets."
Female: "You don't have to stand in line, do you?"
Star?: "I, uh, don't know!"
Female: "Well, we'll see you inside and we can't wait to see your film."
Upon entering the theater and finding seating lo and behold, the star was seated two rows ahead of us. Meanwhile, while waiting in the Will Call line, Boo saw Sally Kirkland and another star whose name I can't remember. Boo alleges that I looked directly at Sally and didn't recognize her, which is not surprising, since I rarely recognize any stars while out and about in Los Angeles.
The film was good, the seating great and the theater simply grand. It had been renovated and they did an exquisite job of maintaining its stature and elegance, while upgrading the seating to stadium style seating. We then dined at a favorite Italian restaurant, luckily before they embarked on a three week vacation.

Flamenco Dancer
Friday night Boo surprised me with a "date" to dinner and a Flamenco Dance performance. We dined on sumptuous filet minon and then saw a spectacular show of Flamenco dancing. We were shocked to be seated at the head table, so close that I could touch the stage! LOL We drank a little too much Sangria and uh, slept quite well.
Talk about a physical workout, these ladies don't need to go to the gym when they have an evening performance, that would be overkill. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the video and was the seating great or what??

Friday night Boo surprised me with a "date" to dinner and a Flamenco Dance performance. We dined on sumptuous filet minon and then saw a spectacular show of Flamenco dancing. We were shocked to be seated at the head table, so close that I could touch the stage! LOL We drank a little too much Sangria and uh, slept quite well.

Success!
I finally found a CD/CDR portable player for $19.95 after finding them at the standard $29.95. We went to Target for sundry items and I thought to check as an amusing sidetrack. Lo and behold, there she was in sleek packaging and blaring her Memorex brand at me.
I can now listen to my CDRs and determine what I have. Yep, that's right, I'm now beginning the stack sort and sifting through them one by one. Some have titles but no music. Others look blank but have songs. Some are duplicates of originals, presumably for both cars so that I'm never without music.
I really need to get more organized.
Okay off I go listening to disco and totally 80s. They make me feel happy and bouncy. Hey, it's almost Friday which means....Flamenco dancers tomorrow evening. I'm excited.

Oh man, talk about a blast from the past...
I was checking my neighbor's iMac connection because she couldn't get online via dial up. We fixed that and also connected her new HP printer, she's owned it for six months and never been able to get it to work! I had to download the proper driver because she'd lost the installation CD. Well on dial up it took one hour to download, so Boo and I just stared at each other in disbelief and went to lunch. How quickly I'd forgotten the download blues.
I think I've convinced her to dump Earthlink's dial up service and go with our DSL provider. She'll end up paying $10 less monthly for faster service and an excellent DSL connection. I told her I'd connect everything for her, we're talking about someone who couldn't figure out where to connect the phone line for dial up. I'm confident she'll be happy she upgraded when she no longer has to wait an hour for downloads.
We left with her printer printing and her able to get online and check email. I'd wondered why I would email her and it kept bouncing back. Imagine paying $24.95 monthly and being unable to utilize the service? Why she didn't speak up before is a mystery to me.

Happy Fourth of July!
The heat wave continues and the nights have been fabulous. We returned home around 11:30 p.m. with the Dodgers beating the Diamond Backs 10 - 4, this was a jamming game! The Dodgers had attendance of 47,000 plus and they played their hearts out. LOL Buddah was wide awake and raring to go as nocturnal felines are prone to do, so we sat outside in the warmth of the evening until 12:30 a.m.
We're BBQing when it cools down and staying away from the beaches/parks and crowds. After last night, we've communed enough with our fellow humans. Our upstairs neighbor emailed that she'd installed her second new A/C by herself and was quite comfortable now, so I doubt we'll be seeing much of her!
Everyone have a fantastic holiday and enjoy the day off.

It's been so hot that all the neighbors are buying A/Cs and needing help installing them. Our upstairs neighbor bought another A/C Sunday evening at Wal*Mart because she couldn't find one any closer to home or at Target - they'd sold out! Boo told her that if she needed help we could help her on the Fourth, as we worked today and have a Dodger game tonight. The evening should be absolutely fabulous and I'm eagerly looking forward to it.
It's our first game of the season and the gals are ready to go, especially since we all get to sleep in tomorrow because it's a holiday in the States. I don't know if I'll eat a Dodger dog, it depends if we eat elsewhere first, as we're sometimes apt to do. I Will be having peanuts and soda and just taking in the sights and sounds. I don't even know who the Dodgers are playing! LOL

10 songs that sum up your weekend...or were on your weekend playlist...and one picture that relates back. (oh, and if you feel like it, tell us why you picked the songs you did)
The keyboardist was in fine spirit Saturday evening as she played her heart out. I couldn't help but notice that she must be undergoing or recently undergone treatment for cancer. A band member wore a pink wristband and I thought it wonderful of him to demonstrate his support.
These songs were performed on opening night of my town's Summer Jubilee by a great local band named Home Cookin'.
~ Black Magic Woman
~ Domino
~ Easy Like Summer Rain
~ Troubled Man
~ A Loser Never Wins
These were heard as I prepared Boop's Sansa MP3 player again. It's a one gig flash player and she wanted her music switched out, etc. Her style is a lot of pop and Spanish music.
~ Alejandro Fernandez Paloma Querida
~ Alicia Keys Karma
~ Spring Love
~ Selena Baila Esta Cumbia
~ Point of No Return

Thank God for A/C!
We have experiencing a fabulous heat spell and while I can't get enough, Boo and my neighbors have been complaining. So this morning Boo installed our upstair neighbor's A/C and then everyone congregrated at her place for lunch. I don't think we've laughed so much or hard as we did today.
It was one of those rare "who's on first, who's on second" moments when everyone's talking at once supposedly about the same subject but in fact, no one knows what they're talking about! LOL Even Punky's dog became confused and had to be taken home for nap.
Aside from this, tonight marked the opening celebration of my town's Summer Jubilee, which sadly, is only a mere month this year. Usually it lasts through Labor Day, but because they're building a new two story library in the shadow of the SJ, our celebration is being cut short.
So I intend to make the absolute most of each and every weekend! LOL
