~ When a Stranger Calls
~ Black Christmas

I live in Southern California and live the digital lifestyle. I love technology, engage in social networks and thanks to the Amazon Kindle enjoy reading again. I listen to many podcasts and am interested in the paranormal. I don't go ghost hunting or anything like that, but I love reading, viewing and listening to a great fright!

Do you believe...
in soulmates, "the one "true love", or any of that mushy squishy stuff? I truly believe in the "little man"... you know, the one that turns the light on and off in the fridge, the one that lives in my purse and makes calls to my friends on my cell, the one that leaves the phantom socks in my laundry, the ghost who changes my cable channel as we're watching it and the remote is on the nightstand.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

Creative Muvo C100
I've had my Muvo for about three years and I've been using a one gig SD card for awhile, which is great considering its advertised capacity is 512 meg. Well Boo bought me a 2 gig SD card and I'm filling the card as I blog. I'll know shortly if the Muvo will recognize and play the contents of the 2 gig card and if it does, I will be in heaven!
I know, my iPod holds 20 gigs but it's bulkier, hard drive based and I don't feel at ease using it in public. In the Los Angeles area we've had a lot of iPod thefts and confrontations between owners and would be liberators. I don't see the point in placing myself in this predicament if I can avoid it.
Two gigs on a flash drive would do me perfectly. I know, I once said this about the one gig, my needs keep expanding and well, I must keep testing and pushing the limits. Plus, Boo got the 2 gig SD card for a steal at Fry's - $20 after mail-in rebate!
I'll let you know the results later.
Addendum: It works! I now have a 2 gig Muvo C100 - yea, baby!

A Day in My Life
My family and I went to the San Bernardino mountains this weekend and had a great time. We picnicked, had a slice of apple pie a al mode in cinammon sauce, shopped for Christmas gifts and mugs, walked and enjoyed the fabulous 75 degree weather and talked and laughed. The Esperanza fire was still burning southeast of us, but you wouldn't know it from our vantage. The sky was crystal blue and the air clear, fresh and warm. Ah, I didn't want to come home!

Top 5 On Friday
This week's Top 5 topics, yes topics, because there are two, are brought to you by the mememistress Andrea, because I can't let the Halloween holiday go without notice.
Top 5 songs that scare you
Okay this one came easily because they're soundtracks to films:
The theme from:
~ Halloween
~ The Shining
~ Psycho
~ A Nightmare on Elm Street
~ Something Wicked this way Comes
As to why I am so tuned in to these? Because we've been playing Scary Theme music at work all week long. As soon as one of us is left alone, we're peering over our shoulders and leaving the area in search of company! LOL
and/or
Top 5 musical bands/albums/songs that put you in a Halloween mood (you can pick one or all three or whatever makes you happy)
~ The Scarols song from The Nightmare Before Christmas
~ Chordettes Mr. Sandman
~ Alice Cooper I Love the Dead
~ Werewolves of London
~ The Monster Mash
I watched It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown for the first time in fifteen years. It was just as cheesy and familiar as I remembered it and still just as much fun. I'm glad I watched it in real time instead of recording it for later viewing. Somethings are best viewed in the moment.

Present Moment
Oftentimes, I don't know what I want. I simply know that I want something different. It's like the old saying, "The grass isn't always greener on the other side." We just think it is. Sometimes living in the moment is a bitch. That's when I must remind myself that this moment is all that I have. Nothing is guaranteed and tomorrow may not arrive.

Randomness
I am sitting here relaxing as I listen to John Legend's newest album Once Again and I am not disappointed. I loved his first work Get Lifted and I've waited for this release for what seems like forever. It's a great listen and I'm glad it's here!
This little gal is Punky's baby and she's spoiled as can be! I'm sure this was an unpleasant experience for her, but for the rest of us, isn't it pure joy!?!
I've also added to my horror collection with: An American Werewolf in London, Silver Bullet, It and High Tension (the latter two recommended by co-workers). Of course, with the variety of scary movies being offered by HBO, ShowTime, Starz and Cinemax I hardly needed to buy anything. Sometimes though, you want to see a flick when it's not horror season and unless you own it - you're out of luck.
Oooh, did I mention that the films I bought were on sale for $4.99 each? Yea, this played a huge part in the buying decision. Now that the MPAA's pushing the new Blu Ray DVDs and trying to force (er, I mean entice) us to upgrade, the regular DVDs are suddenly super low. Funny how this happens.

10 songs that sum up your weekend...or were on your weekend playlist...and one picture that relates back. (oh, and if you feel like it, tell us why you picked the songs you did)
Another record store bites the dust in So. Cal. and all we have left is Amoeba (not many around), Circuit City and Best Buy (the latter two also sell major appliances and computers). It's sad to see another institution go away and see my options for buying music and concert tickets dwindle. I am totally bummed about this, which explains the self induced techno trance.

Creativity
Is not one of my strengths. I don't have an eye for things: color, shapes, tapestries. It's all a blur and giant mystery to me. I'm too left brained to see the big picture and sorely lack composition.
My photos are very ordinary, rather than being unique statements or representations of things, places and people. It is however, something that I enjoy immensely and believe fills a void.
Therefore, I'll continue with this blog after a three month hiatus and post only when something peaks my interest. I'm not striving to maintain a schedule.

A Day in My Life
The L.A. Coroner's office operates a store named Skeletons in the Closet. We made a lunchtime visit and were happy to find the store so well stocked. During this time of year is when they make the most sales, so I was expecting it to be half empty. I definitely have a warped sense of humor and am proud of it!

"That's a huge ass pumpkin!"
My mom is normally way ahead of the game with her decorations up early to enjoy most of the month. This go round she bought a new one requiring assembly and got behind. We spent the day adding finishing touches, getting our car fixed and separating to shop at separate locales.
I wound up at the closeout sale at Tower Records and scored what I consider to be the find of the season: Something Wicked this Way comes, a classic Disney movie. This film has suspense and lighting the way only Disney does!
Meanwhile, Boo was at K-Mart (I hate K-Mart) and I couldn't believe Boo was going there. Well, usually I'm the problem child when it comes to spending more money on decorations, this go round it's Boo. This is what now graces our neighbor's terrace because we had nowhere to put it!
This sucker stands 8 feet tall and yea, he's cutie but, Boo couldn't wait for me to see it inflated, so it was inflated inside the house. Buddah got scared and ran out of the room while I stared in disbelief.

Drinking a glass of cold chocolate milk after a hectic day. Some people smoke. Some imbibe. Some eat a quart of ice cream in one sitting. I drink a glass of Nestle's Quik Chocolate and all my troubles blow away, at least until I leave the house again.
TGIF!
A long week. A fun week. A tiring week. And two days respite.
Horror flicks I've watched on cable this week include:
~ The Amityville Horror (2005)
~ The Cave
~ Wolf (an old 1994 film starring Jack Nicholson and James Spader). It's decent enough for a cable viewing, but I wouldn't want to own it.
I especially like Starz cable offering a dedicated Horror Section of films to choose from in Video on Demand, because they have many films I've never heard of or seen. It's cheap, easy and convenient!
What horror films are you watching?

Applehead Chihuahua?
The owner of a restaurant that we frequent a lot brought out this little guy. He's three months old and oh so tiny. The owner called him an Applehead Chihuahua, anyone heard of this breed? He was so small that we could have easily slipped him in a jacket pocket and no one would be the wiser! LOL

Ten on Tuesday
10 Best of TV This Season
~ Showtime Dexter
~ HBO The Wire
~ ABC Desperate Housewives
~ Showtime Weeds
~ CBS Boston Legal
~ FX Nip/Tuck
~ CBS Shark
~ The CW House
~ The CW Bones
~ ABC Grey's Anatomy
~ The CW Supernatural
~ Sci-Fi Dr. Who
My order represents the night the show airs beginning with Sunday. Hmmm, this list looks like I watch way too much TV. Of course, everything's DVR'd so it's not unmanageable. This represents only what's currently airing, many of my Sci-Fi shows are on hiatus, but this will do for now!

Talking to a co-worker about the messages today's youth receive from the
media. Her daughter is 13 going on 16 and is slightly chubby. The daughter
gets a lot of grief from her peers about not being thin, not looking the
part, not dressing the way they do, etc. My friend said it's hard trying to
reach her daughter and make her understand that being unique is a gift and
that, while the other girls may be thin - they're also ugly. Her daughter
can always lose weight, but their correction will require surgery!
Which is right in line with the models in this poster. At least one of them has an eating disorder. Another has had some type of plastic surgery. Another has had lipo or botex injections. These are the examples our teens see everyday and these gals are the ones setting the standard for my co-worker's daughter. She is striving to emulate these women, who are not naturally beautiful the way their images are depicted. We need to stress to our girls that these models are chiseled and made to look this well.

Netflix has not been a match made in heaven
I know they have distribution centers in most metropolitan cities and have an arrangement with all the U.S. Post Offices to place their red envelopes in special bins for expedited pick up by Netflix.
So why am I waiting four days for my next movie to arrive? This has been the most annoying aspect of this union.
I return my movies and Netflix received it in two days tops. Once they received it the next day, I know how long it took because Netflix sends an email detailing the process. All is great on my end but as for receiving the next flick.....ah, that's when I wait, and wait, and wait.
Some my think I had requested the new releases, nope. I was waiting for foreign films or out of date flicks. This delay isn't good and is precisely why I canceled them. I could have gone to Hollywood Video twice during the four days I'm left waiting and I am in a major city.
For me, Netflix was a dud!

Friday the 13th
I'd forgotten today is the dreaded Friday the 13th, a day when some folks will not dare venture outside their homes. I used to laugh at superstitions like this and think them totally fabricated and ludicrous. I no longer feel this way since I've happened upon quite a few people who adamantly believe these absurdities to their core.
It goes with the whole "don't walk under ladders", "break a mirror and you'll have seven years bad luck", and "oh no, it's a black cat" B.S. I obviously could not take the time today to constantly be peering over my shoulder since I was taking care of business and had to be out of my house on the 13th of Friday.
I leave all of this hokiness and superstition to horror flicks which entertain me and to the few nuts in my circle who probably should stay home since it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy for them that something bad will happen on this day and date combination.

Costco
If you're a member, don't forget to take advantage of their awesome photo printing services. You can upload your images, select the one hour service option, and they will tell you what time you can pick them up. The photo services department has its own register, so you don't need to wait in the snaking lines to pay for them.
As the holidays near and we start using our cameras, it's nice to have a convenient and inexpensive solution to printing photos. I think they're like 17 cents for 4 X 6, which is pretty standard now. I accidentally ordered 5 X 7 and thought they were too big. Just thought I'd share.

SMSing while Driving
I've seen amazing things while on the road. I've witnessed men shaving while behind the wheel, reading the morning paper while in motion and women applying mascara as they gazed into their rearview mirror. Of course, I've seen countless drivers merrily chatting away on their cell phones as they crossed into my lane or ran lights.
It's pretty amazing how many folks are fooled into believing they can truly multitask. Sending SMSs or texting while driving takes this to an entirely new level!

Sick
I normally don't get sick but when I do, I get really sick. I've been drinking Airborne for four days, popping Tylenol and drinking hot tea and for the most part, I seem to be staying ahead of the curve.
I haven't missed any work and aside from feeling under everything's going good. I'm looking forward to Halloween and enjoying the cooler temps. The nights are growing longer and it makes for comfortable and cozy movie watching.
I need rest, so off to bed I go!

Random Ten
10 songs that sum up your weekend...or were on your weekend playlist...and one picture that relates back. (oh, and if you feel like it, tell us why you picked the songs you did)
Tower Record stores bite the dust in So. Cal. and all we have left is
Amoeba (not many around), Circuit City and Best Buy (the latter two also
sell major appliances and computers). It's sad to see another institution go
away and see my options for buying music AND concert tickets dwindle. I am
totally bummed about this, which explains the self induced techno trance.
~ New Order World
~ Assemblage 23 Longevity
~ Pet Shop Boys So Hard
~ The Front Line Assembly Mentalphaser
~ Underworld Jumbo
~ The Mountaineers Apart from This
~ Iris Hell's coming with Me
~ Wolfsheim Upstairs
~ Piano Magic Deleted Scenes
~ Cetu Javu So Strange

A Day in My Life
An exciting football game where UCLA trumped U of Arizona 27 - 7 with an intercept and touchdown in the final four minutes of game play. Energy food in the form of Kung Pao chicken and green beans and shopping at Target for much needed Halloween decorations. I didn't find the tree I was looking for but...

Blogger Beta
I have been having fun playing with Blogger Beta and experimenting with color. If you've been here a few times in the last two days you've noticed changes in color and placement, etc.
It is so much easier to change things on the fly and see the results immediately. I wanted more color in my blog and more page elements. Comments/suggestions would be appreciated.
I have yet to edit HTML because CSS pretty much makes that unnecessary. The option to add page elements to the side bar (i.e. photos, text, links, customized HTML, etc.) means you can personalize and customize your blog in infinite ways and I can think of three folks who will use this to their full advantage! LOL
The one thing that's very important to me and that I've taken to doing a lot of is moblogging. I haven't tried posting via cell phone yet and I'm hopeful Blogger will: ~ Stop sending a return SMS alerting me of a successfull/unsuccessful post.
~ Allow me to edit the title/subject after posting.
I'll try moblogging later today as I know the opportunity to do so will arise. I hope I'm happy when I actually view the post on my blog. LOL For now, I'm off to take care of business.....as in shop!

I'll try moblogging later today as I know the opportunity to do so will arise. I hope I'm happy when I actually view the post on my blog. LOL For now, I'm off to take care of business.....as in shop!
LOL

The New and Improved Blogger is here....
and I'm looking forward to fiddling with and tweaking it. The past three weeks have been quite frustrating when trying to compose or save a post. I've been with Blogger for sometime and hated the thought of leaving, so I'm both excited and hopeful that the change will be good and positive.
Of course the tags, er labels, are a welcome upgrade. I can't tell you how many times I've tried searching the archives for something I remembered blogging. Hmmm, I now must consider devoting time and patience to tagging previous posts??? Ah, I'll let that sit for now as I'm tired and need sleep.
Had a late night Tuesday and am in sleep deficit tonight. If I DVR any more programs I will have to remain on the couch all this weekend to free space for next week's recordings - not a lovely thought. Then again, it's not like there's a chance in hell of this happening as I already have this weekend booked. Oh well...
One final thought: Go Dodgers!!!

Separation fatal to a relationship?
Some people use separation as a form of purposeful pain or punishment. The loss of the person is supposed to remind me of what I'm missing. Of events come and gone that can never be recaptured.
This is a concept I've never understood because for me out of sight is out of mind. Maybe I'm wired different in this respect, but I can honestly say that it doesn't take me anytime to forget someone and move on, regardless the type of relationship - romance or familial.
This came to mind because during lunch we were discussing the games people play and their effectiveness. My girlfriends agreed that varying techniques are successful, but on the effectiveness of separation, we were evenly divided.
Four gals agreed with me that separation only makes it easier to forget a person and move on and the longer the separation the more difficult it is to desire to reconcile. It's like: "They were in my life. They left. Let's keep it that way. I'm doing fine."
The others felt that it was so painful and torturous for them that they were compelled to bridge the gap. Which of course, the rest of could not relate to.
I liken it to being in a romantic relationship with someone who no longer desires you and chooses to leave. Some beg and plead for the other to stay. They negotiate and pledge to change/improve but to what end?
Why should I desire to keep hold of someone/situation that no longer desires me? Better to call it what it is, dead in the water, and move on. My energy is better expended on the good and positive people/situations in my life.

A Day In My Life
Reefer Madness is a musical performance at the Stage Theater in Fullerton. Any seat in the house is good because the theater is small and intimate. The musical was fun, witty and brilliantly executed by talented performers with a zest for live performance. If you have time check out Reefer Madness.
One final note: I had two post ready to go and Blogger would not save them. This is has gone beyond frustration and I'm no longer interested in posting Friday's Music Memoirs or Saturday's post. if Blogger doesn't improve soon I'm moving on and leaving this blog. This is bloody ridiculous.
