Random Ten
10 songs that sum up your weekend...or were on your weekend playlist...and one picture that relates back. (oh, and if you feel like it, tell us why you picked the songs you did)

Hello! I've been enjoying vacation and unplugging from the computer. Boo and I have been out and about having a grand time. I know I've missed some good Music Memoirs memes, but since I can't effectively moblog my participation that's life. Obviously, Boo's had the reins on the music and it's been super great to see the happiness and relaxation that's ensued. This may be my sole entry for the week so I hope everyone's well, happy and having a great time. The coming weekend marks the beginning of my favorite season and I am excited. I have purchases to talk about, observations on life and weird happenings, for now this is it.

~ Donovan Mellow Yellow
~ The Mamas & Papas Words of Love
~ The Chiffons Sweet Talkin' Guy
~ R. B. Greaves Take a Letter Maria
~ The Beatles Norwegian Wood
~ Shocking Blue Venus
~ The Supremes Where Did Our Love Go
~ John & Yoko Lennon The Ballad of John & Yoko
~ The Dells Oh What a Night
~ The Beach Boys In My Room

A very Happy Mother's Day...

...to all the women who have children, as well as those who have "kids" from the critter kingdom. You know that without you and your care, your fur persons wouldn't survive and thrive.

Everyone have a fantastic day and enjoy yourselves. Be safe, have fun and spend time with your special someone.

iPods interfering with Pacemakers?

I heard the news story yesterday while visiting my mom and thought it a hoax. Of course, if Computerworld reported it reported it a day earlier than my local channel, it must be true, right? Never mind that the studies leader is a high school student who placed the iPod within two inches of a pacemaker. I don't know about you, but I rarely have occasion to place my iPod close to any chest.

Also, the study was limited to the number of participants, wasn't in a controlled environment, didn't test other types of MP3 players and didn't consider the vintage of pacemaker.

Where's my gong?

The Right Tools for the Job

I know many of us don't give dumpster divers a second look, let alone credit for being properly equipped for their forays. Whilst on a walk I came upon this diver's mobile tool center and was quite impressed to find:

~ Gardening shears
~ Bolt cutter
~ Electrical & duct tape
~ Extra plastic bags for holding bottles, plastic bottles and paper.
~ Bungee cords
~ A grabber like device for extending his reach.
~ A mini shovel
~ And assorted tools I couldn't identify

Thursday Thirteen
Thirteen things about my iPod

~ I love its elegant sleek design.
~ It's light weight and unobtrusive.
~ I don't know why, but I love the color white and for everyone else there's a variety of great colors.
~ The click/scroll wheel is flawless and fantastic navigation.
~ I love the choices in settings from the backlight, to click wheel sound, to speed of playback, etc.
~ The screen is gorgeous and the type clear as a whistle just the way Apple's always done it. It's visually stunning!
~ The audio has clear, crisp sound with decent bass.
~ The organization of playlists and podcasts is understandable and logical.
~ The owner's manual was well written and, like everything Apple does, well designed and visually appealing.
~ It can take a licking and keeps on playing.
~ I like the clearly marked cables with Apple logo and distinct color immediately associating it to the iPod. Have you ever forgotten which cable belonged to what device? It is a royal pain!
~ I wish it had built-in Wi-Fi that allowed me to download new podcasts while on the go from the podcatcher of my choice.
~ I wish I could use other brands of music download services. iTunes needs improvement. I hate it!

Take Me Back Tuesday

It's a week for sharing....

What is your favorite way to share music with your friends? Mix CD to improve the chances of them liking something.

What song or album do you feel the need to share with anyone who will listen? Zero 7's song In the Waiting Line and Joe Satriani's CD Strange Beautiful Music.

Do you ever lend your CDs/tapes/etc. to friends or family? I used to but things began disappearing, so I lend only to my neighbor who's very good at returning things.

Did you ever discover a musical love because someone shared something with you? (mp3? Mix CD or tape) Not that I can remember. I've been turned onto good artists but they're far short of being musical loves. Some newly discovered artists on mix CD are Nelly Furtado, Josh Gorbin and Robin Thicke.

Griffith Park Fire (Hollywood Hills)

I spent an entertaining and fun afternoon at Boo's job site today celebrating and picnicking. It was a scorching 97 degrees but with the abundant umbrellas, water and consistent breeze, everything turned out fantastic!

Unfortunately the drive home was marred by a fast spreading fire in Griffith Park. I could see the flames shooting up the hillsides and felt a pang in my gut as I wondered if this was arson related. The news has confirmed that it is and a burn victim is in custody, suspected of being the arsonist.

We have terrible conditions (abundant dry brush, steep hills, 95 plus degrees, rugged terrain) for the firefighters on duty and my heart and thanks go out to them.

This was a road trip weekend as this week's list reflects...I did not have control of the radio! The weather in Vegas was chilly, you'd think it was autumn. Back home I understand we sizzled and if it was like today, we also had warm winds that send chills down the spine of fire personnel. Los Angeles is two months early in declaring fire season and my chimes were chiming their hearts out this afternoon!

~ Jim Terr Do They have Email in Heaven?

~ The Eagles Hotel California
~ George Harrison Living in a Material World
~ Edison Lighthouse Love Grows where my Rosemary Goes
~ Chicory Tip Son of my Father
~ Freda Payne Band of Gold
~ Candi Station Young Hearts Run Free
~ K.C. & the Sunshine Band Get Down
~ Odyssey Native New Yorker
~ Andrea True More, More More!

Well obviously it didn't. Why, I don't know but we'll just leave it at that! LOL

MP3 Player

This player comes with 256 meg internal memory, 2-1/2 hours of preselected music at 128K bitrate and no external memory expansion. While shopping for an hour I did not see one unit leave the shelf. I guess the price still was not low enough!

A Shirt is worth a Thousand Words

Oh boy, does this shirt say it all for me on many a day. You know those folks, the one's that want you to feel their pain but are never available to reciprocate? The one's who effortlessly tell everyone else how to run their lives but stumble on their own feet over the smallest thing.

The ones who gossip about everyone any spare moment and yet, expect total confidentiality when it comes to their business. Or, how about the one person who you tell fantastic news to and all they give you is an "Oh..." as they begin talking about themself.

Yea, this shirt is for all of them.

Take Me Back Tuesday

It's the shopping edition....

What is your favorite record/CD shop? Is it still in existence? My favorite shop was an indie called Poo Bah Records. They were a great little store set up in a converted house with old time posters gracing the walls. They're still around but have lost their flavor since relocating some years back.

As for CDs and a large variety it was Tower Records in West Covina. I could spend hours perusing, listening and buying. This chain bit the dust in 2006 and sadly there isn't anything near me to match them.

Do you still buy most of your CDs in stores or do you purchase music online? I still buy CDs in the store though, I don't know how much longer this will last. I see stores like Circuit City scaling back the CD section to almost nothing.

Costco used to be a good source for CDs but they've done away with them for...geez, the past five years at least. Now I can only find compilation CDs and where they might have offered 15 choices it's now four.

What music store do you consider the world's best kept secret. (Meaning you can find anything there)? I don't know about the "world" but Amoeba is the closest thing we have locally. The prices are not competitive so I really have to want instant gratification to buy from them. Otherwise, Amazon gets my business.

One neat thing that I like checking out is the Amoeba Blog posted by employees. It's quirky, informative and well, fun and since each post is related to music it can't be beat.

What was one "hidden treasure" you found while shopping for music? Led Zeppelin's Physical Graffiti. Do you know how many stores do not carry this???? Online you can find it and wait for delivery, but I wanted instant gratification this go round! LOL

This is ingenuity!

While driving and running errands, I happened upon this cyclist who would park every so often to rummage through the garbage. I never saw him retrieve anything him but was most impressed with his set up and the ease in which he could cart it back home.
