I live in Southern California and live the digital lifestyle. I love technology, engage in social networks and thanks to the Amazon Kindle enjoy reading again. I listen to many podcasts and am interested in the paranormal. I don't go ghost hunting or anything like that, but I love reading, viewing and listening to a great fright!

I'm participating in this years New Year's Eve 2003 photo project and I think it's a lot of fun. It's like hourly blogging your New Year's Eve and Day only with photos. If you have a digital camera, what are you waiting for? Come on, join the project and share. I'm sure my day hasn't been anymore exciting than yours. With the take off of reality TV, this as close as photo blogging gets!

Wednesday Whatevers
1. Who has had the greatest impact on your life? Explain. My mom. She
raised three girls as a single parent and I remember being happy and feeling
loved. I hear so many single parents wonder how other single parents have
done it. I don't have the answer. I only know that I grew up feeling
complete, happy and loved. My mom instilled in me a solid work ethic, self
respect, and self reliance.
2. What is your incentive to wake up every morning? I feel God has given me
a 'second chance' and I do not intend to waste or take it for granted. I'm
thankful that He felt me worthy of saving. So I awake each morning happy to
see another!
3. What confuses you about the opposite sex? The game of acting like they
don't need anyone else and can handle anything. Yet, when a challenge
occurs, the first thing they do is *expect* sympathy and support. Why aren't
they pulling themselves up by their bootstraps?
What's on...Right now
New Year's Eve.........I'm going to cave and ask you all this
question.........only with a slight twist!
LOOK CLOSELY!!!
What's NOT On your 'New Year's resolutions' list Right Now? Okay, I could say that nothing's on my list because I haven't made one or, I could say that I don't know because I haven't given it much thought. But in actuality, the one thing that I do not want to jinx is my enthusiasm for digital photography. So, I am going to allow it to continue being fun and pleasurable by not seeking perfection!
Daily Dirt
1. What will you miss about 2003? All of the memorable and fun occasions that were shared.
2. Why should you be looking forward to 2004? An end to the 'unofficial'
(since Bush has declared the war ended) war in Iraq.
3. What will you be doing first thing when the clock strikes 12? Hugging
and kissing my spouse!
4. Have you accomplished all your 2003 resolutions? Does maintaining the
status quo of zero resolution completions count? If so, then the *one* thing
I accomplished was a zero score in keeping resolutions.
5. How will you celebrate the end of 2003? In the comfort and coziness of my
home, eating a delicious meal and watching videos.

Would you rather tell the truth or take a dare? I'll take the dare - it's more fun!
What would you do for a million dollars? What wouldn't you do? The maximum I
would do is eat an insect. I would not sell my body or commit murder.
Did you have an allowance as a child? If so, how much was it? What did you spend it on? Don't remember having an allowance. I do remember my mother allowing to choose one item each Friday. I would invariably select a book to read or an activity book with math and reading comprehension quizzes.

Update
Shazam!!! I can't believe it. When I arrived home this evening, the first thing I did was check the front door for UPS delivery. Of course, there was nothing. While updating this blog, I heard a knock at the door and the familiar roar of the UPS truck's engine...YES, my new digital video camera has arrived!!!!!!!!
Woo hoo! I'm off to fiddle with it and charge the battery. Maybe, I'll take it to work with me tomorrow and try it out. Oh man, this is too fantastic! What a way to ring in the New Year. Happy dance all around the house.

Random Questions; Random Days
Are you the type of person that makes New Year's Resolutions? If so, please share, if not, why? Please, I can't even remember what resolutions I made, let alone enforce/keep them! I'm truly hopeless. It's been so long since I've tried, I don't even feel guilty anymore. Am I pathetic or what?!
Tuesday is Chooseday
For the next year, would you rather:
1. give up sweet foods (anything naturally or artificially sweet) OR gain 40 pounds because you didn't? Obviously, I'd rather give up sweets than gain weight but, it's easier said than done.
2. taste nothing but the flavor of oranges OR only wear the color orange (all the way down to your underwear)? Ummm, definitely taste nothing but the flavor of oranges. I even like the scent of orange, you know, when you're house cleaning? I love Orange Glo!
3. shout obscenities at every person who pisses you off (so loud that anybody within earshot turns to look) OR punch one person a month who pisses you off? Oooh, tough one....I guess, I'd rather punch one person a month. It could serve a dual purpose, too by releasing any remaining anxiety.
4. cry uncontrollably whenever you get a bill (at a store or restaurant) OR fart noticeably every time you laugh? Oh, easy one...fart noticeably every time I laugh. In no time at all, everyone else will be laughing with me.

Daily Dirt
Have you been...
1. Have you been naughty or nice this year? Since you're asking me, I have to say nice. I've been very good this year and will continue being so!
2. Have you been doing a lot of thinking? Actually, yes. My spouse says that I become very contemplative at this time. I was unaware of it. It seems I'll remain in this groove until February or so.
3. Have you been fooling around? Yes, with my spouse!!!
4. Have you been in love? Oh yes. I can genuinely say that I understand what love really is. It's about loving a person no matter their faults or differences. It's awakening each morning and loving the person lying beside you in bed. Especially after 20 years!
5. Have you been everywhere? No, not even close. I'm not one for traveling. I like looking at the photos and reading the descriptions but, I'm not one packing luggage and carting it around. I'd probably travel if I didn't have to pack/unpack anything. If I could arrive at any destination of my choice and have all the amenities and accommodations I require ready and waiting, well - that's the way to travel!
Random Questions; Random Days
What is your favorite way to bring in the new year? When I was in my twenties - the only way was to party! It wasn't the New Year without friends, music, dance, and strobe lights and disco balls! Now, I enjoy staying home, where I am safe and cozy, with my spouse and cat.
After dinner, we'll watch a couple of movies until midnight. We always remain awake until midnight, waiting for the magic hour to embrace and wish each other a Happy New Year! On New Year's Day, we'll go to my mom's for the family get together. We used celebrate New Year's Eve, but my mom worries about everyone safely driving home.

Baker's Dozen
I've enjoyed a five day mini-vacation and am not looking forward to work. However, since my spouse is returning to work, I might as well go because I'll be bored, otherwise! Let's see, what were the dozen highlights of this weekend?
- Slept in Saturday morning (8:30 a.m.)
- Worked on photos and blog
- Packaged items for return to QVC and HSN
- Charged my extra Canon digital camera battery (a Christmas gift)
- Had lunch at the Tudor House in Santa Monica. Oh, it was a gorgeous, breezy, winter day. Lots of people out and milling and parking was a problem!
- Actually made it back to Pasadena before the post office closed to send the packages I'd packed earlier in the day.
- Watched Season Four of The Sopranos
- Munched on home popped popcorn. No microwave popcorn. Yes! I am a popcorn lover and it is my snack of choice!
- Sunday afternoon I had a very flat tire on the front driver's side.
- Drove to theauto supply store for 'Fix a Flat'. I know, I'm not supposed to use products like this but, I was in a hurry! Hopefully, the tire will remain inflated until I get it repaired.
- Shopped at Mervyns fantastic sale on $5.00 pillow case and sheet sets (any size). Parking was a challenge. I thought the madness had passed?
- Famished and cold, we order take out from Pizza Hut and watched the Sopranos.

Friendships...
1. Do you have a best friend? Yes, my spouse. My spouse has seen the best and worst of me. The temper. The impatience. The stubborness. And still, I am loved!
2. Do you have a best online friend? No. I was on the Net back in the day when you navigated via a command line interface. BBS's were king back then and
3. Do you wish you had more or less friends than you already have? I could probably use more - can't we all? But, I'm content with the friends I have. We all live very hectic lives and don't see much of each other. But, when we do, it's as if we haven't missed a day together!
4. Have you ever loved somebody you can't have? Way back when I was a teenager - literally all of 15 years old. At that age, you think you know everything and feel so certain of the intense feelings you're experiencing. Now I look back and think, "Thank God things happened the way they did!"
5. Has anybody who you don't want, ever loved you? Whew, that's a harsh way of putting it, no? I prefer , "Has anybody ever loved you and you knew it wasn't right?". Yes. A friend - who is no longer a friend - crossed that line. I was not available then and I felt betrayed. Friends are people who you, and your spouse, should be able to trust.

Random Questions; Random Days
Good Morning! I hope everyone had a great Christmas! What are some of your family traditions when celebrating the holilday? I must confess that being asked about traditions always throws me a loop. I don't know if my family has any traditions. Is that awful or what?
Okay, here goes....our family spends Christmas Eve together and stays up until midnight, when we open our gifts. We also make tamales for Christmas dinner (in advance), so that we're rested on Christmas Eve. Christmas Day is usually celebrated with just my spouse. That's our day.
Daily Dirt
Habits...
1. Do you have any annoying habits? I zone out on people. I return to active listening mode and their lips are still moving and I haven't a clue what they've been talking about. If, after returning I'm not mentally stimulated by, I will automatically zone out again.
2. Which habit in others do you consider as annoying? Picking one's teeth with their fingers, while still seated at the dining table!
3. Any new habit you wanna pick up? Sure, how about remaining actively engaged in the conversation of another?
4. Do you tell people about your habits? No. I don't find my habits particularly interesting or ground breaking!
5. How soon will people be able to find out about your habits? Probably never. What would be the point in that?
I'm feeling very good right now, because I am a satisfied customer. I bought a digital camera from Samy's Camera in Pasadena, CA. At the time of purchase, I asked about the price for an additional Canon brand rechargeable battery. The salesman quoted me $45.00.
So, I added the battery to my Christmas Wish List. On my mother's behalf, my spouse went to buy the battery for me. Yesterday, I was told that the battery was $15.00 more than quoted. This upset and annoyed me to no end, as I couldn't understand how the battery could possibly increase $15.00 in one month's time!
Today I went to Samy's Camera and spoke with the salesman who originally assisted me. I explained my dissatisfaction at requesting an item be purchased from them, only to be charged $15.00 more. He was very nice and explained that the quoted $45.00 price was his discount to me for the digital camera purchase. He then took the receipt for the gift battery and promptly gave me a store credit for the $15.00 difference.
Now that's service and I highly recommend Samy's Camera for all your film and digital needs!

The Friday Five
1. What was your biggest accomplishment this year? Returning to work after a work-related injury. It's great to be back!
2. What was your biggest disappointment? Not continuing with a dedicated exercise program. I feel the difference when I don't exercise, it's not good.
3. What do you hope the new year brings? Continued good health for my loved ones and friends.
4. Will you be making any New Year's resolutions? If yes, what will they be? I don't know, yet. I've never been good at keeping them. Many memes have asked what resolutions would be made, but not if I'll actually make any. I'm still debating, but am leaning towards no.
5. What are your plans for New Year's Eve? I'll spend a quiet and safe New Year's Eve with my family. We'll have another delicious meal and hopefully, play some board games. I don't out dancing or clubing anymore. Especially, not on this holiday. Too many folks drinking and driving!

M E R R Y C H R I S T M A S ! ! !
Thursday Threesome
1. Name three new year resolutions.
Darn, I better be sure they're believable and halfway achievable! Okay, lose weight, exercise, and finish reading one book.
2. How will you go about following them? Don't know....just kidding! Consume smaller portions and no snacking, actually use the exercise equipment I already have (I don't need to go to any gym), and pick any book I've purchased within the past two years and actually sit/lie down and read for 30 minutes twice a week.
I'm serious, I used to be an avid reader and it's been years since I've been able to sit down and focus reading a book. It's like, all of a sudden I've become ADD as an adult. Is this possible?
3. Do you think you will accomplish them? Why or why not? I believe the weight loss is doable, as is the exercise routine. Reading and completing one book will be a major challenge for me! Silly as this sounds, it will be the resolution that undoes me.
The Daily Dirt
Ho ho ho! I was hoping everyone will blog at night after the festive night. Otherwise these questions may not be 100% answerable. So here we go...
1. What did you want for Christmas? I wanted another battery for my new Canon S50 digital camera and a new portable walkman-style cassette player. Yeah, some of us still listen to cassettes. Hey, don't mock me! I record several radio programs (yep, I even time shift radio) and enjoy listening to them during my lunch hour. I also wanted a Nikon 5700, but I knew that was a dream!
2. What did you get for Christmas? I received both items that I really wanted in addition to clothing, food items, gift certificates and jewelry - all items that I will use!
3. Who got it for you? Family and friends.
4. Did you like it? Yes, I liked my gifts a lot. I can honestly say that I didn't receive anything I wouldn't have bought for myself.
5. Are you going to return it? Heck, no! I'm keeping everything and using my gift certificates after the "day after Christmas sales". I don't want to hassle with the crowds!

What's on...Right now?
Some of us are celebrating Christmas tomorrow but I thought I'd still post a question for this week.........Merry Christmas! What's On your mousepad Right Now? Okay don't laugh, I have my mouse, of course, and a nice steaming cup of cocoa and a cookie. Hey, a girl needs energy to blog!
It rained yesterday and the forecasters say it will rain today, but for now, the sun's shining, it's Christmas Eve, my shopping's done, and I'm home on a vacation day enjoying the day! What could be better?
Wednesday Whatevers
1. Why are people so fascinated by celebrities? I often ask myself the same thing. Had Arnie not been a celebrity, would he have won the election in California? I don't think so. I'm not fascinated by them. I don't even watch the various celebrity related programs that air.
I guess, many have a need to escape their own reality, so they focus on the perceived glamour of the celebrities. Of course, the media does a lot to promote this glamourization. Just look at the coverage Michael Jackson received. It was ridiculous! I tried getting real news and every station was focused on the Santa Barbara airport and MJ's impending arrival.
2. Do you believe in oracles/fortune tellers? Explain. I acknowledge their existence but would never seek their services. God has my life planned out for me and as long as I do the footwork and follow His path, I'll get to the destination He has planned for me. I'm no hurry to start making changes!
3. Do you ever plan to get married? I've been happily married for 23 years!

The Tuesday Iffers
If you were given a bottomless cash supply to use for Christmas presents but only if you donated $5,000 to a charitable cause(s) who/what would you give $5,000 to? I would donate the entire $5,000 to City of Hope. They do so much cancer research to remain on the cutting edge of treatment. City of Hope also does tremendous outreach to cancer patients and their caregivers.
*Bonus: How would you spend your Christmas money and on whom? I would spend the remainder on my my family, friends and local charities. I would also invest a nice chunk of it!
Family and friends would receive what I know they really need:
- a house (if they're renters)
- reliable transportation
- home repairs (if they already own their home)
- assistance with tuition for their college bound children
- assistance to pay bills (if they're unemployed or ill)
Random Questions; Random Days
Are you a Coke or Pepsi fan? Oooh an easy question, I'm Pepsi all the way!
Coke has an after taste that lingers and it's not fizzy enough. How's that
for a scientific answer?!

Random Questions; Random Days
On this day in 1977, the first border to border national highway,
Interstate 75, was dedicated! How do you prefer to travel? Why?
I prefer air travel because it's fast! Before my back injury, I could enjoy and
withstand a long car journey. I'd be able to appreciate the landscape and
beauty of our country. However, physical comfort is of the essence now and I
need to get where I'm going as quickly as possible!
Baker's Dozen
This pretty much sums up my weekend - the final shopping weekend before Christmas!
- "I hope it doesn't rain", said by me on Friday. Contemplating 1-1/2 hour drive to the in-laws. Traffic is horrible on the 71 and 91 freeways and rain only makes it unbearable.
- "Let's see how many dozens we end up with", said by my mom as we're preparing tamales from 25 pounds of masa.
- Practiced using new 4 megapixel digital camcorder purchased from HSN for $150.00. It's not very good; low light conditions are atrocious and properly lit environments still need a lot of work! It's very compact and light weight but I care more about quality, than price and weight.
- Still waiting on packages from QVC and HSN: nothing at post office on Saturday! Christmas Eve is three days away.
- Saturday, drove 3 hours round trip to Murrieta, Ca to visit in-laws. Miraculously, traffic was not bad.
- "Where have you been?", my niece inquired of me late Saturday night.
- Wrap, wrap, wrap them Christmas presents!
- Too tired to cook, ate leftovers.
- Rushed to tortilleria to buy tamales for breakfast at work on Monday. Had planned on picking them up at 6:30 a.m. Monday morning, but they don't open until 8:00 a.m. - too late!
- Ran to the 99 cent store to buy a tray for tamales and paper plates. Forgot that the tamales need to be placed on something!
- Lights and decorations everywhere! My town's ready for the holidays.
- Updated my meme and photo blogs - sleep!

Monday Madness
It's all about money this time. So let's do it! Each of the questions below begin with 'How much would YOU pay for'..........
1. a pair of dress shoes $75.00
2. a pair of jeans $40.00
3. a pound of ground round $2.99
4. a music cd $11.00 MAX Normally, I pay $9.99!
5. a computer $799.00 and that's with all the bells and whistles that I need.
6. a loaf of bread $1.99 MAX if it's more, I'm not buying it!
7. a dvd movie $15.99 now that the industry's forcing everyone to go DVD because they're not releasing many movies on VHS, they're also gouging us on price for DVDs. Of course, they did this in the early days of VHS, but I'm unhappy about it.
8. an ironing board A what??? Wha't that!?! LOL
9. a hair cut $25.00
10. a magazine $4.99 and it better have a lot of glossy photos! LOL

Sunday Brunch
1. Is your Christmas shopping complete? If no, how much is left to do? YES! Thank God, yes it is. I finished this past Tuesday during my lunch hour. Thank God that I work near several malls and had a good idea of what I wanted.
2. If someone not on your Christmas shopping list buys you a present, do you feel like you have to buy one for them? You know, I used to. I would even carry wrapped presents with me for such an occasion. I stopped doing this some years past because I felt it was phony. If someone gives me a Christmas gift and I did not buy one for them, I can elect to buy a them a birthday gift.
3. What is your favorite Christmas special or holiday movie? 'A Christmas Carol' is my favorite holiday movie. I must view it annually and it's as if I'm viewing it for the first time!
4. Tell us about one of your favorite Christmas memories. When I was 6 years old or so, my mom worked at a paper box factory where they made the packaging for major department stores, perfume manufacturers, etc. Sometimes, she would bring home the most beautifully colored paper and foils that - for whatever reason - didn't meet production standards.
One Christmas my mom, sisters and I made garland from gorgeous foiled paper colored gold and fushia. It shimmered among the Christmas lights and seemed so beautiful to me. I remember this fondly because of the time we spent together making them. My mom made us champurrado and we worked together as a team.
If I was 6 then, my sisters were 17 and 18 years old, respectively. It was the first and only time we did crafts together. By the following Christmas one sister was married and out of the house, the other seriously dating and hardly home.
5. Tell us about a holiday mishap. (i.e.: tree falling over, dog eating presents, etc.) In the 1980s I was working swing shift and arriving home about 12 midnight. I always liked for my trees to have hundreds of lights and plenty of ornaments. One night as I entered the apartment, I heard a rustling noise. Startled, I wasn't quite sure where to look. I walked around the apartment in search of the origin, but found nothing.
As I stood near the tree, again I heard the rustling and saw branches move. I felt my heart racing as my hands neared the branches I intended to part. As my fingertips touched the branches, two beady eyes peered from the bowel of the tree. I screamed and stepped back. My cat J.R., leapt from the tree towards my chest.
She landed on me even though she was entangled in the lights and ornaments. I fell back onto the couch and the tree - replete with lights and an abundance of Hallmark ornaments - fell on top of us. All I remember hearing is the sound of glass shattering and ceramic breaking. Half the ornaments were lost, as well as several sets of lights. J.R. was shaken, but okay and I was scratched all about my face!

Saturday Senses
Let´s go with a classic hypothetical situation this week: you have to go to a desert island for a 3 year research. You can only take one person with you and 2 items of each category below. What do you choose and why?
[sight]:: Which items you can look at or watch or read do you choose to bring along? (Ok, it´s a hypothetical situation, so you´ll have a tv and a dvd player there, in case you choose to bring a movie along). The Bible and 'The Heart of Stillness' by David A. Cooper.
[taste]:: You are allowed to choose only 2 diferent types of food to eat for the whole 3 years. What do you choose? assorted nuts and water.
[smell]:: You will miss people, places, your life in general, right? Say you can take "bottled" smell to remind you of things you will miss. Which smells are they? The scents of my mom, family members, cat, freshly mowed lawn, aroma of mole, the smell of a hot, humid day in the city during summer!
[touch]:: Which 2 grooming or hygiene items do you take with you? Toothpaste/brush and soap.
[hearing]:: You´re allowed to take a mp3 player along, but with only 2 songs. Which ones are they? Only two songs....bummer! The Beatles 'In My Life' and Led Zep's 'Kashmir'.
BONUS QUESTIONS:
1) You have a choice of 3 other items, any items, anything. What can´t you absolutely live without? Get creative! I'd take my laptop with wifi connection and ethernet card for wired service to the Net, my Palm Zire 71 PDA, and Canon digital camera all with extra batteries, of course!
2) Who do you take to the island with you and why? My spouse - I couldn't live or be happy without the better half of me!

Thursday Threesome
::The Christmas Song, Part II::
Onesome: Chestnuts-- Okay, just which Christmas food won't you touch? I
mean, even when Auntie Sarah is serving it up with a big smile! Definitely a fruit cake! My mom likes fruit cake and has tried to help me acquire a taste for it. Let's just say, it hasn't happened and never will!
Twosome: Roasting Then again, which Christmas food are you willing to risk
life and limb for, even when Uncle George is between you and the platter? Capirotada which is Mexican bread pudding primarily made during Lent. However, my mom makes it for Christmas as a special treat!
Threesome: on an open fire Heh. This line reminds me of a joke! Do you have
a favorite bit of holiday humor? How about it? I don't know how "humorous"
this will be for others but, my neighbors have said that our house looks
like 'The Griswolds' (i.e. National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation) household.
Why, they say such things is beyond me.
I do decorate outside with a few lights here and there. And, I sometimes place lit figures on the lawn or anchored to the walls. Do these decorations place me in the same category as The Griswolds? I don't think so. So what if you can read a novel by the illumination of the outdoor lights!

Random Questions; Radom Days
Do you recycle? Yes and no. I recycle paper products and greens, but can't get into recycling bottles, plastic, etc. I think it's the act of separating the items and the time it takes to do so. I justify it by acknowledging that I do recycle some products and some is better than none!
I'll give it more thought and perhaps begin recycling plastics and bottles in the New Year. I know I really should. It's not that hard. What a thought provoking question!

What's On....Right Now?
We are nearing the end of another calendar year. We often start thinking of
those things about ourselves that we'd like to improve or change; otherwise
known as 'New Year's Resolutions!' This is what inspired this week's
question..........
What's On your 'New Year's Resolutions' list Right Now?
My New Year's Resolutions list includes:
- spend more quality time with my mom
- lose weight
- maintain exercise regimen
- continue participation in memes

Tuesday Iffers
If you had to choose would you be the circus person that the knife thrower throws knives at or the one who puts their head in the lion's mouth and why? I'd be the one that puts my head in the lion's mouth. I'll take my chances with an animal whose nature it is to bite or kill when it's hungry - not for sport or entertainment. I have more faith in animals than humankind. With my luck, the knife thrower would be tipsy, have bad aim, or be in a mood!

Baker's Dozen
Here's my list of 12 things that describe my weekend:
1. "My ankle's taking forever to heal." (Said by my stylist who stands for most of his work day)
2. "Don't forget, he has his winter coat!" (My response to Buddah's vet when she commented about his weight.)
3. Frys Electronics where I actually found a parking space in the first pass.
4. Watching the DVD of 'Season 3: The Sopranos'. (Love this HBO show and can't wait for season 5 to commence).
5. I spent time cropping photos and transferring them from the CF card to the hard drive.
6. Watched the Home Shopping Network and QVC. Ahem, I bought one or two items.
7. Sunday morning I went to the local Farmer's Market for Chinese celery.
8. "I don't think I've ever been to a Target this early." (My comment at 8:00 a.m.)
9. Ate some delicious homemade chicken soup.
10. Dessert consisted of homemade chocolate chip cookies with walnuts!
11. I played with the Tetra Tops I bought on Friday. My nephews will like them.
12. Started preparing for the work week and rising early Monday morning - bummer!

Sunday Brunch
STRIKE THE HARP AND JOIN THE CHORUS
It's either the most loved or most loathed ritual of the Christmas season: the Christmas carol.
1. Do you have a favorite Christmas carol? If so, what is it and why is it your favorite? Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas as performed by Bing Crosby is my favorite because of the imagery it conjures.
2. What is the one Christmas carol you absolutely can't stand to hear? I can honestly say that there isn't one. I like them all!
3. Have you ever went out caroling? No. Thank goodness, the general public was spared!
4. If you had to pick a character from Dickens' "A Christmas Carol", which character would you be? Scrooge's nephew.
5. How many Christmas recordings do you own? I own 11 CDs of Christmas music.
Everyone, have yourselves a Merry Little Christmas!

Saturday Senses
This week's subject is pets / animals. Have fun...
[sight]:: Which was the most amazing animal you have ever seen live? Describe the experience. A wild bear in the San Bernardino mountains. It was foraging for food and it had cub nearby. It was twice as tall as me and it saw me watching her. She looked at me for what seemed an eternity and then walked away. I know I stopped breathing from sheer excitement. I don't recall feeling scared. I just felt awe.
[taste]:: If you eat meat, do you ever think about the animal you are eating? Funny you should ask. Just last night I ate some beef and yes, it occurred to me and I felt a pang of guilt. That had never occurred before, so it was quite alarming.
[smell]:: Does it bother you or have you ever refrained from getting a pet because of smell (its own or its 'subproducts')? Oh no, not at all. I love my cat Buddah and his scent. He's the fur person in my life and I love him so!
[touch]:: Which animal did you most enjoy petting, holding or touching for whatever reason? I don't know about 'enjoy' but, it was eye opening to pet a pig. I expected his skin to be smooth and instead it was coarse.
[hearing]:: If you have pets do they make any sounds? Does it bother you? My Buddah is part Siamese, so he's a real talker. He yeowl when I'm outside and he's indoors to tell me to "get back inside!" He rules this household and he knows it!
Recently, he was very sick and meowing/crying when he would walk. He was very quiet and still and it broke my heart. I missed him so. He's my companion and friend - I love hearing him talk!

The Friday Five
1. Do you enjoy the cold weather and snow for the holidays? I don't really enjoy cold weather because it causes my arthritis to flare up. Everything starts hurtling and I slow down. I live in southern California so, I don't experience snow!
2. What is your ideal holiday celebration? How, where, with whom would you celebrate to make things perfect? How's this for irony? I'd like to be in the mountains with snow falling and a glowing fireplace, surrounded by my spouse and family members. I know, if the snow's falling, that means it has to be pretty cold!
3. Do you have any holiday traditions? My family celebrates Christmas on Christmas Eve and everyone stays up past 12 midnight. Christmas day is usually for visiting or, in my case, having dinner with my spouse and opening our special gift to each other.
4. Do you do anything to help the needy? Year round I do, not only because it's Christmas. I donate clothing, hand bags, shoes, make up, cell phones, etc. to the shelter for battered women and their children. You'd be amazed at how many children are in these shelters. It's very sad, but I do what I can.
5. What one gift would you like for yourself? Just one, huh?! I guess, a Nikon Coolpix 5700 digital camera.
Random Questions; Random Days
With the flu hitting some states in the US very hard, how healthy are you? Do you get an annual flu shot? I used to get an annual flu shot until three years ago. I caught a very bad case of the flu and became disillusioned with the whole idea. I haven't had the flu since - thank God and I'm not concerned about being "unprotected". The vaccine only ensures safety against one strain of flu so, I'll take my chances.

The Thursday Threesome
The Christmas Song, Part I::
Onesome: The-- What is the "bestest" Christmas decoration in your mind? You know, the one that says, "This is Christmas!" Lights - lights on many homes in all variety colors! It evokes a feeling of happiness and warmth! Christmas is the one occasion when people seem willing to decorate and put lights in the trees, porch, house, etc. I've even seen some truckers festoon their rigs with lights!
Twosome: Christmas-- What style of Christmas ornaments do you like to see? Are you a glass ball person? ...or how about that bow thing? Maybe Christmas Muppet characters everywhere? Hmm? I love the old style hand blown ornaments. The kind that were popular in the 50s and 60s. Christopher Radko is bringing them back in popularity and they're just absolutely gorgeous!
Threesome: Song--...and your favorite Christmas Song? Is there one that just sets the season for you when you hear it? I mean, even when you're in a "Ho-Ho-Humbug" mood? 'Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas' by Bing Crosby. It just softens my heart even when I'm feeling like the Grinch.

What's on...Right now
What's On your wish list Right Now?
- No more strikes or labor disputes/disruptions
- A joyous Christmas with all family members present. (I already know it's an impossibility, but this is what wishes are made of, no?)
- Good health for my cat Buddah (he's had a lot of health problems)
- That the New Year brings my friends and loved ones happiness, love, serenity, and good health

Random Questions; Random Days
Have you read any good books lately? Please share! No, but I actually bought one, which is a big deal for me. As I shared on a previous Monday Madness, I've been unable to finish a book. The irony is that I used to be an avid reader - book club and all!
Now, I'm lucky if I get through one third of the book before laying it down and never returning. I can't say it's the fault of the author, either, as the books are quite good and engaging. My recent purchase is titled "Anyone You Want Me to Be: A True Story of Sex & Death on the Internet" by John Douglas (former FBI profiler).

(Decaf, of course!)
There's nothing like a steaming pot of tea to warm your hands and heart.

Random questions; random Days
With winter fast approaching, how do you feel about snow? I've lived in southern California all of my life, so I don't know what it's like to live where it snows. I fantasize that it would be beautiful, crisp and bright, as the sun's rays would reflect the snow.
Then my friends (who have lived in snow) voices are heard in the distance saying, "Yeah but, it's only pretty for a couple of days. Then it turns into slush!" "Wait till you have to get up at 5:30 a.m. to shovel your car out!" "Better get used to layers cause, that's all you'll be wearing!"
My fantasy quickly fades and I focus on the palm trees!

Oops! Almost forgot! I just wanna thank everyone who participates in my meme.........if not for you, this meme would be.....well, gone!! Here's this week's question.
What's On your 'favorite things to do' list Right Now?
Oh dear....

- check my gift giving list twice (don't want to miss someone)
- complete Photo Time Tuesday (and other photo memes)
- listen to Christmas music at home

Monday Madness
It's all about memes...........let's talk about memes!
1. How many memes do you participate in regularly? Gosh, I didn't realize that I particpated in eight of them! Hmmm, perhaps this is where my reading time is going?? LOL
2. How do you decide which memes you participate in? They interest me, so I make a concerted effort to participate.
3. Do you run one of your own meme? If so, please leave your link! If not, have you thought of running your own? No, not yet. I've seriously considered doing so, but need to find a site that allows for comments/feedback. This site, for instance, in its present incarnation doesn't allow for comments/feedback. I think it's endemic to the meme's success.
4. Is there a certain day of the week that works better for you to answer memes than others? No, not at all. We live such hectic lives that, it's a welcome respite to have on any given day!
