Weekend Wonderings

Yikes! I'm sorry these are so late. Yesterday we had electrical problems and today I had a lot of unexpected company.... so now to the questions Since there's been so many severe storms lately these questions are weather based.

1. Every area has it's own kind of severe weather... what is it in your area? (ex. earthquakes, tornados, hurricanes, floods...) I'm in California, which is definitely, earthquake country! Being a native and having experienced many earthquakes, I'm not afraid of them and I can deal with them.

2. What's the most severe weather incident you remember? That would be the 1994 Northridge earthquake. It did not affect me personally, as I lived several miles from its epicenter. But I remember the devastation of buildings, roads and main arteries and hundreds of people without housing.

3. What kind of natural disaster scares you the most? I'm most afraid of hurricanes or Tsunamis, which makes a lot sense since I'm afraid of large bodies of water.

Saturday-8:: A while back I was in a car wreck that peeled the front of my car like a banana. Looks like our resident Sat8'er Laura was in a wreck yesterday. Yes she's ok, but it remains to be seen about the car. Might be headed for the junk yard in the sky. Anyway, this might be a good excuse for a topic this week for the Sat8.

1. Have you ever been in a serious accident? If not, how about any accident? Thankfully, I've never been in a serious auto accident. I have experienced a work - related accident that will be with me for the remainder of my lifetime.

2. Have you ever been ticketed for an accident and if so did you pay it or fight it? Nope and I'm happy I haven't!

3. What kind of insurance do you have and would you recommend it to your friends? I have full coverage for one auto and what California mandates for the other older one. I would recommend you assess your auto's value when determining what type coverage to purchase. There is no value in over insuring an old, standard automobile.

4. Did the accident cause you to change the way you drive? I've witnessed an accident that prompted me to change how I hold the steering wheel. It's very easy to become lax about hand placement and even drive with only one hand on the wheel.

5. Did you need a rental car? If so, did you get a better car or worse one than you had? If not, what did you do for transportation? N/A

6. Have any of the mishaps you've experienced with your vehicles given you impressions of the quality or safety of certain vehicles? In the mid-90s I'd heard that Saturn's were supposed to be one of the safest vehicles on the market. I saw one minor accident where the Saturn's front and passenger driver side completely caved in and the windows shattered into hundreds of shards. The cars could not have exceeded 35 miles prior to collision. I certainly was not impressed with Saturns and would never consider buying one.

7. When in an accident were you alone, with someone, with your children, etc. Did that make a difference in the situation? The accidents I've witnessed have always been with passengers in the car. It makes it much easier to digest when you have other witnesses to discuss it with and share your feelings of disbelief and fear.

8. Finally if you could drive any vehicle you wanted, what would it be? A Toyota Sequoia or Cadillac Escalade
