Online Music
I’m very curious about amazon.com’s announcement that they’re developing an online music store a la the iTunes Music Store. Does this mean amazon will also offer a proprietary MP3 Player (as Apple’s done with iTunes and the iPod) to work with their online music store creating a possible iPod killer?
One key difference is that amazon will rent the music via a monthly subscription fee. I have yet to buy from the iTunes Music Store, but I know I’m an acquirer. I like to own the music and am not interested in merely renting it. Amazon’s model will follow Yahoo!’s subscription service except that Yahoo! doesn’t lock you into a specific MP3 player. Does this sound enticing to you?
Speaking of online music sales, I was surprised to learn that the folks who give out the Grammys do not recognize online music sales in qualifying artists for a Grammy, which leads me to wonder how much longer it will take them to count online sales? With the media reporting the demise of the physical compact disc imminent and Apple tooting its horn for online music sales, I'm shocked that this hasn't happened.
I live in Southern California and live the digital lifestyle. I love technology, engage in social networks and thanks to the Amazon Kindle enjoy reading again. I listen to many podcasts and am interested in the paranormal. I don't go ghost hunting or anything like that, but I love reading, viewing and listening to a great fright!

Dismantling
Ah, last spring and summer we spent several days organizing the garage with shelving units. We bought several utility shelves and assembled them. We stocked the shelves with items and all was right with our world. Little did we suspect that a scant nine months later it would all have to come down!
Yes, we spent the day dismantling two shelving units and deciding what to transfer and discard. A very long, tedious and physical process that I don't mind admitting I did not enjoy. We have been so busy the past three weeks that I hoped for a quiet, relaxing and uneventful weekend.
It seems like there's always something, doesn't it. Whatever happened to lounging on the weekend? This project has a deadline that we're hustling to meet and I will be so jubilant when it's completed!
We'll tackle it again first thing tomorrow morning and this go round, I'm listening to music. I was so slow today and didn't figure it out until the end. Yea, not a moment of bulb flashes...more like a slow leak. LOL

CD Buying Ecperience
My Mom and I went to Circuit City today in search of a new release by Ana Gabriel (a Latin artist), who's very popular in the Latin community. My Mom's BIL's birthday is very soon and he likes this artist.
It'd been years since my Mom entered an electronics store or bought music. Even when we're together she'll opt to wait in the car or shop elsewhere as I'm browsing, so she was shocked at the small volume of merchandise and lack of assistance.
The music section was in disarray with every artists in the alphabet under G, instead of their respective section. We asked a clerk for help and she rolled her eyes and exclaimed, "Oh, you don't want to look in there, it's totally a mess! You won't find anything." and sauntered off.
My Mom looked so disappointed and said it's no wonder stores are closing and losing sales with no customer service and the stores being upside down. I offered to buy it on amazon.com, but that led to a speech about why should she have to buy anything online? what about those without computers or knowledge of that thing called the web? LOL
She's right. There's a segment of society that, whether by choice or economics, is not participating in the Internet community and is feeling forced to do business a new way. How will we get these folks onboard? The Internet hoopla, when it really crested, is in its tenth year. What will we need to reach maximum saturation?
Just some thoughts and not much more. We didn't find the CD, though, I swear I saw it at Target a week or so past. I'm heading there tomorrow in search of Ana Gabriel!

Feline Thursday
One can pick a cat to fit almost any kind of decor, color scheme, income, personality, mood. But under the fur, whatever color it may be, there still lies, essentially unchanged, one of the world's free souls.
Well, I know where my camera case and battery cover are. One thing about this little guy....he appropriates everything for himself.

Where are the good sales?
It’s been a slow start this year as far as music and gadget purchases. The sales haven’t been great and there’s nothing new striking my fancy. I waited for the President’s Day holiday anticipating Circuit City’s “buy any CD $13.99 or more for $10.99” and they didn’t have it.
I was so disappointed with the Sunday ads. I wanted to buy GNR’s Live two disc CD but don’t want to pay $15.99. Instead I’m left waiting and wondering who will have the great sale when? Damn, the record industry seems to have a vise on everything.
Have you noticed how you can’t buy a spindle of 50 CDRs for $5.99 after mail-in rebate anymore? I used to buy CDRs like crazy when they offered that pricing and have had enough to last me because of it, but I sure wish I could replenish my dwindling supply.
The sale of ring tones has been a huge boon to the RIAA’s coffers. Ring tones should be included on a CD as an inducement to buy. Why should I have to pay even $.99 for the ring tone of my favorite/popular song? Maybe if they offered tie-ins like this people would start buying CDs again instead of $.99 downloads.

10 Favorite Places in Your Hometown
~ The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf and the great court with available seating.
~ Rick's hamburger stand with adjacent stage area. They have good bands year round performing forty five minute sets on Fridays.
~ The dance studios that provide lessons and a great view for gawkers. We have one focused on salsa, etc. and the other ballroom.
~ Downtown Main Street has become more of a destination with good restaurants.
~ Almansor park with its duck pond and renovated track for walkers and joggers. It's very peaceful even when busy.
~ The Lovebirds Cafe has great homemade cookies, cakes, bread and sandwiches with quaint outdoor seating.
~ The Renaissance theater complex with its ample parking, stadium seating and surrounding eateries. You can do everything in one location.
~ In general, the quiet tree lined neighborhoods that are inviting to walk through and sit in the shade for quick respite.
~ Our present library is very small and outdated, but I'm looking forward to the two story library slated for completion in 2008.
~ Noodletown is Vietnamese restaurant that serves delicious soups and noodle dishes.

Totally Geeky
This link contains photos of the new Apple MacBook Pro notebook computer. These were taken at the Apple Campus and not by an individual owner.
In terms of geekiness this is up there.....Boo just reminded me that I shot photos of the iPod's unwrapping when I got it. Okay, I guess I can't talk....let me go cower in my den...LOL

Neon
This photo has nothing to do with actually seeing a film, but everything to do with my attraction to neon. I love neon lights and signage, especiall the signage from the 30s to 50s. There's a magical quality to neon that simply mesmerizes me. I hope our technological advancements never extinguish neon's light.

My Little Ghost
Boo, as well as friends and co-workers, have suggested that I don't have a klepto ghost that it's just me losing things. Okay, let's roll with that thought, shall we?
If it is only me, where have I lost the CDs to? I don't transport my CDs anymore, since listening to music on my iPod via the Griffen FM transmitter.
I don't take the CDs to work with me, either. I listen to my Muvo MP3 player as I work. The work computer's CD player is total trash. It skips and the bay door opens on occasion when it wants. So listening to my Muvo's the best solution.
Let's say they're lost in the house. Okay, I have been on another cleaning spree yesterday and thus far nothing. I've cleaned my den area - around the computer and CD storage - and there's no trace of missing CDs.
I've checked and double checked the entertainment center and the missing CDs are not there. I don't have many places where they could have gone off to, save for linen closet and cupboard space....and, no surprise, they're not there.
It's like they've simply disappeared and I'm getting angrier and angrier. I hope my socks start missing instead of CDs. No more CDs please! LOL

It's like they've simply disappeared and I'm getting angrier and angrier. I hope my socks start missing instead of CDs. No more CDs please! LOL

Whew, it's been awhile due to circumstances beyond my control. I'm glad to be back and am looking forward to catching up with everybody. I haven't had time to read blogs and I've missed it a lot.
One thing that I've been reminded of again is what a strong role music plays in my life. It has accompanied me through some of the happiest moments, as well as many sad ones.
I probably have a song association for every day within the past week and I wouldn't trade them for anything. Unlike TV, music is easily transported to any place and it's convenient for the quick escape.
I tell you, I'd be lost - totally lost - without music. Yup, this is my latest pair of socks and you bet I wore them during the past week! LOL

10 songs that sum up your weekend...or were on your weekend playlist...and one picture that relates back. (oh, and if you feel like it, tell us why you picked the songs you did)
Thank God for music. It was my salvation this weekend and will surely see me through the upcoming days. The louder the better. The more raucous the better. Thank God for music and for once, the iPod. The iPod carries a lot of music and podcasts and as long as I have variety I will survive!
Eric Clapton Cocaine
Roxy Music Out of the Blue
The Beatles Hey Jude
Three Dog Night Try a Little Tenderness
U2 Love and Peace or Else
Ozo Love & Hope
Bee Gees Lonely Days
Tina Turner I Don't Wanna Fight No More
Steppenwolf Magic Carpet Ride
Joe Cocker Midnight Rider

Feline Thursday
The affinity of cats for routine and schedules includes the expectation that the special person in their lives will always be there. They seem to know that constancy is what love's all about.
Oh, such a glorious yawn after a hard day of napping, eating and sleeping. Yes, there's a difference between napping and sleeping!

Compact Discs
I was sad to see the CD section at my local Best Buy dwindling. Each visit there's less selection and the allocated space keeps shrinking. The writing's on the wall and at this pace, I believe it's possible that 2007 will mark the demise of the compact disc in stores. I still haven't tried online sales, but I'm getting closer as most indie artists I'm interested in sell their music on .... you guessed it, iTunes.
If anything, it's the indie artist that will get me buying online. Of course, what I buy will be for obscure artists because I still prefer buying the entire compact disc with the packaging and liner notes, provided they're $10.99 or less. In my area, I can easily find these prices for mainstream artists at Circuit City and Fry's. They beat amazon.com every time.
I’ve received a coupon from Borders and may use it to buy another copy of GNR’s Live CD. Yes, another CD's been missing – this is probably the first one too since it's been missing over a year. I love the live version of Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door. It’s the best rendition yet and, since this CD sells for $15.99 and I’m unwilling to pay that much, I need a coupon or good sale.
Speaking of Borders, I am so jazzed that they serve Seattle’s Best coffee. My sis turned me onto them way back in 2000 and after one cup, I was hooked. They do great on regular java, but for flavored iced coffee drinks, nobody beats the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf. Their vanilla ice blended is to die for!

What's going on with Blogger? I can't even access my site to browse. I've had difficulty posting in the past, but not for a long time. Maybe they're upgrading servers? I've tried reading other Blogger blogs and it's the same deal. Of course, the one's I've tried accessing are also on the west coast, so maybe it's regional?
I bought Train's newest CD For Me, It's You. I picked this up today at my least favorite haunt Best Buy. You can also view the video for Cab .
In addition to selling the CD at a great price, if I bought a second Train CD at the same time, I received both CDs for $15, $7.50 a piece is not a bad deal. So I also bought Train's Private Nation.
I've been listening to a lot of new music via Pandora and enjoying my podcasts. I'm always time shifting TV, so I guess this is why podcasts appeal to me so much. I now can timeshift audio, too!
Hope everyone's having a great Saturday night. Let's see when this posts!

Feline Thursday
Your cat uses her 24 whiskers to measure space. They protect your cat’s eyes and, if the whiskers clear the width of an opening, your cat knows that her entire body can slide through.
Uh, as this photo illustrates, my boy definitely relies on his whiskers! He’s a …. healthy cat that simply requires a little space when bathing! Hecklers, you know who you are, need not comment. Stick to the CDs, okay!?!

Emergency!
On the drive home I was stopped at a red light when out of nowhere, all I heard were sirens. At least seven fire trucks sped past me as I idled in the left turn lane, there was nowhere else for me to pull over to.
I finally happened upon the scene. I couldn't see or smell anything like smoke, so I don't think it was a fire. I also didn't see wrecked vehicles. Who knows what the emergency was!

In Search of New Bands/Music
I’ve been thinking a lot about how hard it is to find new bands and music. It used to be I could go to my local record store and hang out. The employees would play music while browsing and if something interested me, I could ask them to play it before buying.
Now, I’m dependent on others telling me about a band I haven’t heard of or perusing amazon.com and clicking on its suggestions. The suggestions link to thirty second sound bites, not enough time for moi to get a real feel for it.
I miss the serendipity of the music store experience. I know I’m feeling this way because another local record store has bitten the dust. It’s really sad because there’s no place to congregate in person and talk about music.
Don't get me started on radio. Like many stations elsewhere, L.A. stations play the same Top 40 music over and over again, until I'm so sick of it, I won't buy it because I'm now fed up with it!
The closest thing to serendipity are blogs and memes. Music memes have been great and so much fun, reminding me of songs and artists from years past. There’s so much to be discovered, it’s sad to miss out!!
I also found a great web based radio station called Pandora. You start by selecting a favorite artist, Pandora will then play a song by the selected artist. Clicking the Guide Us button allows you to provide feedback about whether you like the song currently playing, don't like it or recommend they not play it again allowing Pandora to learn about your taste in music and provide music it thinks you will like.
The longer you use it and provide feedback, the more useful it becomes and better at turning you on to new music. Each song selected lists the song title, artist and thumbnail of the album. I've been listening for awhile and am really digging it. Almost forgot, you can also share your station with others and let them enjoy your selections!

The longer you use it and provide feedback, the more useful it becomes and better at turning you on to new music. Each song selected lists the song title, artist and thumbnail of the album. I've been listening for awhile and am really digging it. Almost forgot, you can also share your station with others and let them enjoy your selections!
