CD Buying Ecperience
My Mom and I went to Circuit City today in search of a new release by Ana Gabriel (a Latin artist), who's very popular in the Latin community. My Mom's BIL's birthday is very soon and he likes this artist.
It'd been years since my Mom entered an electronics store or bought music. Even when we're together she'll opt to wait in the car or shop elsewhere as I'm browsing, so she was shocked at the small volume of merchandise and lack of assistance.
The music section was in disarray with every artists in the alphabet under G, instead of their respective section. We asked a clerk for help and she rolled her eyes and exclaimed, "Oh, you don't want to look in there, it's totally a mess! You won't find anything." and sauntered off.
My Mom looked so disappointed and said it's no wonder stores are closing and losing sales with no customer service and the stores being upside down. I offered to buy it on amazon.com, but that led to a speech about why should she have to buy anything online? what about those without computers or knowledge of that thing called the web? LOL
She's right. There's a segment of society that, whether by choice or economics, is not participating in the Internet community and is feeling forced to do business a new way. How will we get these folks onboard? The Internet hoopla, when it really crested, is in its tenth year. What will we need to reach maximum saturation?
Just some thoughts and not much more. We didn't find the CD, though, I swear I saw it at Target a week or so past. I'm heading there tomorrow in search of Ana Gabriel!
I can understand where your mum is coming from. Plus there are some people that are on the net that still don't like to put their credit card info out there. It's understandable.
ReplyDeletePlus a little instant gratification is nice sometimes. I would love to be able to go into a store and find what I'm looking for, rather than having to order it online and wait a week for it to get to my mailbox.
