Take Me Back Tuesday
Blogdrive was deader than spam yesterday. Many apologies...so Take Me Back Tuesday is a Wayback Wednesday today. And to carry on with the Top 5's theme....we're still CD shopping ...

Do you buy just released CDs in the store or preorder them online? I never pre-order anything because I know that Target, Circuit City, Wal*Mart and Fry's will compete for the lowest advertised price. I'm thrifty and I'd rather wait and pay less than be first to have something! LOL

Do you remember a particular CD that was extremely hard to find when it had been recently released? Okay this is going back to the early nineties when the Beatles catalog was released on CD. Audiophiles were going nuts for the then new compact disc format and I couldn't find The Beatles anywhere.

To what extent will you go to buy a CD that you just have to have? At this time, I won't. I just wait. Rare is the artist who does something different with each release. Most have become very formulaic, almost like Rocky 36.

Have you ever bought a CD on a whim, without knowing the artist, just because you found something pleasing about the album art or that you've only heard one track. Did you end up discovering a new artist, or did the CD find it's way into a Used CD store or the back of your closet? I have bought a new artist based on cover art and the result was bad. So bad, I never consider taking them to the bargain bin at my local Penny Lane or putting them on LaLa. Hmmm, this may be a holiday weekend project.

Have you ever purchased a download just because you couldn't find a song any other way? Not yet but I'm so getting there. I need to find a credit card with a minimum limit of oh, I dunno, $300 or less and then I'll use it for online music sales.

There's been buzz about the Russian site that sells entire albums for $.99 placing erroneous charges on folks' credit cards. I'm not surprised since there's a lot of organized crime, identity theft and hacking in that country.

This was an awesome Music Memoirs!

Murphy's Law

I have been having major issues with some office equipment and it never fails that Murphy's Law will rear its ugly head at an inopportune moment.

I've had a heavy workload with a deadline that doesn't extend. This darned piece of equipment kept giving me headaches and putting me behind. Thankfully, a co-worker's on vacation so I've been using her equipment.

Frustrated and fed up I complained to my manager that this would not do and something needed to be done. He acknowledged that ideally we'd have a maintenance agreement to have it serviced, but it's not in the budget and unlikely to be added.

This morning he came to my office and completely disassembled it. I had a ball watching him and seeing the innards of how it all works. I found this very interesting and well, exciting.

One and one half hours later he had reassembled everything (no extra screws!) and voila! it works. It's working better than ever and it's like having a brand new machine. I have even more respect for my manager and his geeky tech skills. LOL

Random Ten
10 songs that sum up your weekend...or were on your weekend playlist...and one picture that relates back. (oh, and if you feel like it, tell us why you picked the songs you did)

After last weekend's hectic pace and a very draining workweek, I needed to mellow and chill, especially with the weather becoming more autumn-like. It's time to find a good book or two, though, anyone who reads my blog knows that I have a very poor track record.

I can't believe it's almost September and time for kids to return to school and give their parents a break. It's also time for the new fall season and I am ready for Nip/Tuck, Doctor Who, Curb Your Enthusiasm and The Wire. At least I'm hoping the latter two return this season.

~ Entropy Looking to the Future
~ Zero 7 In the Waiting Line
~ Jazznova No Use
~ Garbage I Think I'm Paranoid
~ Poe Control
~ Plumb Good Behavior
~ MCLars Download This Song
~ Natalie Imbruglia Do You Love?

A Day in My Life

We did the tourist thing and visited the Guinness Book of World Records attraction in Hollywood. It reminded of something I'd expect to find at Coney Island or the former Pike boardwalk in Long Beach, CA. The whole thing was pretty cheesy and screamed tourist, but we had a great time with the factoids.

Where have the Homeless Gone?

Yesterday morning I was struck by the absence of something as I was stopped at a red light: This small non-descript park on the outskirts of downtown L.A. had no homeless people.

In summers past this park was a haven for the homeless contingent. They congregated day and night as they slept, played dominoes or checkers and just sunbathed and they appeared to be in no hurry to relocate/leave.

So where have they gone? How did the city of L.A. eradicate them and where have they been displaced to? We don't have any new homeless shelters and the ones we do have already turn folks away.

In recent months allegations of 'homeless dumping' have been made by surrounding communities. This is when a conscious decision has been made by city A to forcibly remove homeless people from their city and physically drive them to city C where they are abandoned without food, money or knowledge of resource centers.

Say Cheese!

It's one thing to wear thong underwear cuz it feels good or you think it makes you look too cute. It's another to bend in public and flash your crack
to an unsuspecting public. Cute face or not, no one wants to see your crack!

Pigeons

After enjoying a Malibu Dream at the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, we noticed many pigeons sitting on the wires. They reminded me of clothes pins on the
clothes line and I couldn't help but snap their photo. I lucked out because
a bird in flight entered my view at the perfect moment. Sometimes I have to
slow down and just enjoy the moment and beauty of a very average and
ordinary day.

Circuit City

Just bought Luther Vandross' newest compilation CD with a two new tracks. I still fee so sad when I think about his passing. I really thought he'd pull through after several years of physical therapy.

I also bought Wallace & Grommet The Curse of the Wererabbit. I love animation films and, though I missed this in the theater, couldn't wait for a cable release to see it. I could've rented it sure, but it's one I think I'll want to see again, especially come Halloween!

I recently saw Monster House and thought they great job with the storytelling and the animation. I'm glad I didn't miss it in the theater and uh, yea, this will be another purchase when it's released.

10 songs that sum up your weekend...or were on your weekend playlist...and one picture that relates back. (oh, and if you feel like it, tell us why you picked the songs you did)

Being in a tattoo shop for hours doesn't leave you with much variety in music. It's either head banging punk or pulsating bass from rap & hip hop. The tatting dudes preferred the latter. I think my chest was still vibrating an hour after leaving!

Sorry about not knowing the individual song titles for this week's Music Memoir. I don't feel sorry about not knowing them for myself. This music isn't my cup of tea and it took a lot of focus on my part to neutralize it in my head. LOL The dudes had tiny speakers with mega bass and woofer outputting booming sound.

~ Erasure It Doesn't have to Be
~ 50 Cent In Da Club
~ Ludicris
~ Mary J. Blige
~ L.L. Cool J. Head Sprung

Today was a very off day for me. I felt so tired and lethargic, I even took a 1-1/2 hour nap!

Has anyone else noticed that the sun's axis has already changed? The sun's intensity has diminished and it feels like the beginning of autumn, not that I'm complaining about the temps.

I will miss the longer days and dread the "falling back in time" for Daylight Savings Time. I still don't understand why we do it?

Boo is such a sweetheart. We spoke on the phone Friday and I mentioned what I needed from Fry's and how they had two desired items. Boo went to Fry's during lunch and bought what I wanted. See, that's love and dedication and I am so thankful for you, Sweetie!

I now have a multi-card reader and two gig SD card for my new Canon. I reformatted the 512 meg SD card from my Muvo MP3 player to use as a back up for the camera.

Reformatted the one gig SD card I had for the camera (remember, I now have a new 2 gig card) and filled it up with podcasts and music for work. I am a very happy camper and will undoubtedly be very productive in the coming weeks!

I could use one more multi-card reader for work. We're always snapping shots at work and it would be so convenient for transferring the photos. I've been bringing the camera home and downloading the photos, which means delayed gratification for my pals.

Hmmm, there maybe another Fry's run tomorrow. The multi-card reader has a mail-in rebate which makes the card reader free. I like free.

Fry's Run

I need to make a serious effort to get another multi-card reader. More of the technology I'm using requires SD cards and two of the three readers I own are solely for CF cards. I didn't foresee the popularity of the SD card rising and eventually taking over.

Most digital cameras (including my newest one), MP3 players, digital binoculars and PDAs use SD cards because of their super compact size and convenience. I still prefer CF cards because of the hard shell casing that protects the media, but the postage-sized SD card prices are dropping fast and that's a very good thing.

Feline Thursday

A cat's spine is very flexible because the vertebrae are connected less tightly. The shape of the first two vertebrae allow your cat to move his head in almost any direction.

I am amazed by the variety ways Buddah contorts his body and the speed which he seamlessly changes direction.

It's been crazy!

It's been a very fun and different summer this year. We've been doing different things and work has been kicking our asses. Everything seems thrust into hyperdrive with very little time for catching up.

This is the first summer in a long time that I have not been snapping photos with my cameras. Even more ironic since I just bought another one and have yet to use it.

What I have been using is my cameraphone and loving it. Especially when it's so darned easy to snap a photo and email it to friends. It doesn't get more spontaneous or fun than that.

The Razr's camphone is pretty decent and I've received many compliments on the quality. Most assume it's one of my regular digital cameras with the photos downloaded. Upgrading to the Razr's been the best value!

We finally saw My Super Ex-Girlfriend, after much prodding from co-workers, and it was as dumb and funny as The Forty Year Old Virgin. It's quickly disappearing from the theater, so if you get a chance check it out. Going on a weeknight worked out great too because the theater was half empty and the crowd we had found it as humorous as we did.

All We Are Saying

Last night I watched a program called All We Are Saying developed and directed by Rosanna Arquette. It's a documentary about the music industry and Arquette interviews a variety of artists from various genres about their experience in the industry, how it's changed over the years and the impact on their livelihood post-Napster.

More than one artist cited the demise of lyricists with the advent of MTV, which made it mandatory for artists to be beautiful and dress hip. It's not enough anymore to sing about real feelings and the state of the world, when all everyone wants is fluff and flash.

It's a an interesting, thought provoking perspective of how the artists feel and their views on whether they can survive in today's climate. It's a Showtime production that I caught on the Video on Demand service. Check it out if you have a chance.

Whew I am Stuffed!

Nothing like celebrating another birthday, this go round it was Emmet's and we dined at the Wood Ranch BBQ in Arcadia. They serve so much food and all of it's delicious. Of course, we all carried our leftovers throughout the mall as we tried to exercise and "walk off" part of our meal.

Sadly, another favorite haunt is gone. According the valet, Market City Caffe packed it up and left Arcadia this past Monday or Tuesday. Boo and I were so sad because we loved dining there for Valentine's Day and our anniversary. No more.

Why do we keep losing our favorite places? I'm beginning to hear the X-Files theme playing.

Did you know that your cat has 230 bones? This is more than humans, who have 206. Almost 10% of a cat's bones are in the tale.

Buddah's had back problems and necessitated acupuncture, which believe has helped him tremendously. He's known as the "Acupuncture Cat" at the vet. Very sad, indeed!

Staduim Arcadium

I bought the Red Hot Chili Peppers two CD set Stadium Arcadium this weekend. Fry's, my favorite haunt, was selling it for $8.77 and I couldn't resist such a steal of a price! I've only listened to disc one Jupiter so far and I like it. It will be added to the iPod and once I buy the Logitech MM50 speakers at Costco, I'll be set to listen anywhere in the house!

The weatherman's forecasting another heat wave for Wednesday through the weekend and I'm not looking forward to this. Days of 95 plus temps will send me into hibernation again and I will not move from the A/C. Let's hope storm clouds and cooling temps prevail.

Serenity

I finally saw this film on cable and have to confess that SAP was right on, this is one good Sci-Fi flick. Boo liked it a lot and complimented on my selection. ;-) I'm fessing up here, SAP.

This film had good acting, great action and a plausible story. I'm not familiar with any of the actors starring in it, but it's irrelevant because the story is so good that I didn't need star branding.

It makes me want to go back and see the television prequel Firefly. If it's available on DVD I'll rent it but I'm not sure it's something I wish to buy. Hey SAP, are the DVD extras any good?

A Day in My Life

Jumpin' Jack Flash a Rolling Stones tribute band also performed on the final night of summer jubilee and they literally got people out of their seats and onto the dance floor. Now I'm the first to admit that one doesn't necessarily dance to a Stones' song, so let's just say they were stomping, whooping, and flailing about totally sixties style! LOL

Summer Jubilee

Has come and gone and what a sad, quiet Saturday evening it is. No music. No crowds. No parking challenges as out of towners come in and fill all the spaces within a four block radius of the festival.

I miss it.

I know I'll like the new two story library with its coffee bar. I know I'll like having our summer jubilee back for the full summer. But right at this moment, I'm not liking the change in schedule the new library has caused.

We didn't have the Mardi Gras theme with beads and fireworks as the finale. We had a sixties vibe and one band that knocked everyone out was Pleasant Valley Sunday, you got it, a Monkees tribute band.

They played many favorites like For Pete's Sake, Valleri, Bluebird and of course, they closed with their namesake song. They had the crowd dancing, swaying and reminiscing to the beat and the pitter patter of the go-go dancers!
