All We Are Saying

Last night I watched a program called All We Are Saying developed and directed by Rosanna Arquette. It's a documentary about the music industry and Arquette interviews a variety of artists from various genres about their experience in the industry, how it's changed over the years and the impact on their livelihood post-Napster.

More than one artist cited the demise of lyricists with the advent of MTV, which made it mandatory for artists to be beautiful and dress hip. It's not enough anymore to sing about real feelings and the state of the world, when all everyone wants is fluff and flash.

It's a an interesting, thought provoking perspective of how the artists feel and their views on whether they can survive in today's climate. It's a Showtime production that I caught on the Video on Demand service. Check it out if you have a chance.
