Five things that annoyed me today:

~ SUV drivers parking in the space directly opposite me and leaving their lights on as they sit in their truck, striking me square in the face.
~ Parents cursing in front of their young, impressionable children.
~ Impatient drivers honking at pedestrians crossing in the crosswalk on a green light.
~ Adults purposely littering when a trash can is less than five steps away.
~ Rude drivers stealing parking spaces from the elderly who are less agile and fast.

And on a very positive note, two great things happened today :

~ The neighbor across the street came over this morning as I was rushing off to work to compliment and thank us for the wonderful Christmas decorations. How's that for a fantastic start of the day? Absolutely fabulous - that's how!

~ I received wonderful comments to yesterday's Wordless Wednesday post and it was wonderful to logon this evening and read them. A wonderful way to end this day.

I feel very blessed today, thank you!

Black Friday

Normally Black Friday (the Friday after Thanksgiving), is slated to be the kick off of the holiday season and the day when merchants are in the black and out of red. All of this happens because thousands of us flock to the mall eager to spend our money.

Well, I confess to being one of the mob but I diverged ever so slightly. I didn't shop for Christmas gifts, we shopped for new Christmas decorations and then spent Saturday decorating. This little guy is our centerpiece for 2006 and once it's completed, I'll post a photo.

I feel like everything lately is such a blur. I'm going through the motions and pretty much running automatic. So long as I have all gifts in place and things done "on schedule", I guess it will be considered a success. I feel like I'm the parts that jiggle in a kaleidoscope.

A Day in My Life

The workspace is decorated for the Christmas holiday and we're feeling right at home. Boo found this gorgeous tree with 1,000 lights at Home Depot and we were totally surprised at how beautiful it is. I expected it to look good but I had no idea it would look so great! Shy Girl bought the seal and it's a wonderful complement to the tree.

We are Set!

We spent the day decorating the outside with a new color scheme and decorations. I love blue and I've always desired a flocked Christmas tree with blue lights. The most beautiful tree I have ever seen was decorated by our friend Lita way back in 1990, it was the exact tree I've just described and I couldn't stop admiring it.

Throughout the Christmas party I remained seated close to the tree. I just wanted to wile away my time looking at her tree. Boo told me it looked like a Hannukah bush and there ended my hope of ever having such a tree.

Well as we were shopping at my favorite store...which is it?....Target we happened upon the new LED light sets. Boo had been commenting about the set of blue lights my mom had us decorate with on Thanksgiving day, so we checked out Target's assortment.

It took me sixteen years, gosh - that sounds so sad, doesn't it?, but I finally have the outside decorated as I would like. These new LED lights are totally awesome and bright, but it's best to offset them with regular lights to add balance.

As I eagerly waited for night to fall, I noticed that we're the first house in the neighborhood decorated for Chrismtas and this just makes me feel even happier! LOL We were standing outside admiring the lgihts when we were heard our neighbor across the street yell "Babe, did you see the house across the street?" Boo and I laughed and I felt warm, tingly and quite content.

Happy Thanksgiving Day!

I'd never given much thought to which holiday is most pleasant or important to me, but as I've ahem, matured - it seems Thanksgiving has become my it holiday.

I'm guessing this is because it's the time when family gets together for no other reason than to give thanks, share a meal and spend time together. There are no gifts to buy or anticipate and no eager eyeing of the stroke of midnight.

It's quiet time.
Time spent sharing and talking.
Laughing and playing.

Of appreciation for what we have and each other. As the name implies, a time to be thankful and give thanks.

TWAS THE NIGHT OF THANKSGIVING, BUT I JUST COULDN'T SLEEP

I TRIED COUNTING BACKWARDS, I TRIED COUNTING SHEEP.

THE LEFTOVERS BECKONED - THE DARK MEAT AND WHITE

BUT I FOUGHT THE TEMPTATION WITH ALL OF MY MIGHT

TOSSING AND TURNING WITH ANTICIPATION

THE THOUGHT OF A SNACK BECAME INFATUATION.

SO, I RACED TO THE KITCHEN, FLUNG OPEN THE DOOR

AND GAZED AT THE FRIDGE, FULL OF GOODIES GALORE.

I GOBBLED UP TURKEY AND BUTTERED POTATOES,

PICKLES AND CARROTS, BEANS AND TOMATOES.

I FELT MYSELF SWELLING SO PLUMP AND SO ROUND,

'TIL ALL OF A SUDDEN, I ROSE OFF THE GROUND.

I CRASHED THROUGH THE CEILING, FLOATING INTO THE SKY

WITH A MOUTHFUL OF PUDDING AND A HANDFUL OF PIE.

BUT I MANAGED TO YELL AS I SOARED PAST THE TREES....

HAPPY EATING TO ALL PASS THE CRANBERRIES, PLEASE.

MAY YOUR STUFFING BE TASTY, MAY YOUR TURKEY BE PLUMP.

MAY YOUR POTATOES 'N GRAVY HAVE NARY A LUMP,

MAY YOUR YAMS BE DELICIOUS MAY YOUR PIES TAKE THE PRIZE,

MAY YOUR THANKSGIVING DINNER STAY OFF OF YOUR THIGHS.

HAVE A WONDERFUL THANKSGIVING!

Spent the day out and about, did lunch with the gals at Bennihana's, then spent the day shopping at JoAnn's Etc. This version is much larger than the regular JoAnn's and carries a larger variety of seasonal items, ceramics, trees, scrapbooking and rubber stamping materials, as well as lots of awe inspiring fabric.

Speaking of rubber stamping, I did not make any Halloween or Thanksgiving cards. I never even got close to the craft area. Time's just breezing past and I can't seem to keep up. Anyone feeling this way?

I know we're in November, I write the date daily for different projects, there's a definite disconnection regardless. The Ontario Mills Mall is now dressed and primed for the Christmas shopping frenzy and still I'm not in the mood to shop. Maybe I need Christmas music or something - I really don't know.

We wound the day by wine tasting at the Fillipi winery in Rancho Cucamonga. We did buy a couple of gifts and the gals found some items for co-workers. The sunset was spectacular and we found two new wines to add to our growing list. I think we're doing lunch again in two weeks and this time it will be Italian cuisine followed by another wine tasting - I can't wait!

Oh, I finally made it to my favorite store Target and bought John Legend's and Lionel Richie's Christmas CD sampler. There are like seven songs on each CD and I paid $6.99. No surprise that the pricing is basically $.99 a tune a la theiTunes music
store. I can dig the price since I like both artists a lot and they're singing standards. How can they mess up Christmas songs? I am still holding out on buying music online, though.

Blogger's acting odd; I did the Top 5 on Friday meme yesterday and the post doesn't
show. Not only doesn't it show, I can't find a draft of it anywhere. So disappointing too as I worked on it for quite awhile. Well, I'm not redoing it. Maybe next week's will post.

Happy Holidays!

I haven't adjusted to the fact that Thanksgiving Day is a week and half away when I'm assaulted with Christmas at my local mall. On Friday the local news reported that Santa Claus arrived at theTopanga Mall in Woodland Hills, CA, replete with carolers and fake snow.

I like Christmas as much as the next person but feel we really need to slow down. The news also reported that the average person plans to spend $900 this holiday season, up $200 from two years past.

I don't know where their stats came from, but I can assure you that I do not intend to spend anywhere near that amount. After hearing the upbeat spending forecast, retailers in So Cal decided to grab the eager spending beavers before they change their minds.
A Day in My Life

The final UCLA game of the season for us and UCLA won 25 - 7! It was a chilly autumn day when the game began at 3:00 p.m. and it only got colder as night fell. We were warm in our beanies, caps and jackets and everyone had a great time. The clouds looked menacing but never brought any rain, just very light sprinkles.

We lucked out from the time we set foot on the grounds of the Rose Bowl. A guy came up and asked if we had our tickets. After responding "no" he handed us four complimentary tickets saving us a total of $60. Then while waiting in a snaking line (Punky just had to have some Kettle popcorn) another guy was lamenting his misfortune at having to exit the line after waiting forever because it is cash only. After hearing his plight, Punky allowed him to cut in the front of the line and he gifted her with two free bags of popcorn!

So all in all it was a great finale to a great game. We dined at Coco's restaurant on steaming soup and decaf coffee that warmed our insides and made us feel hot blooded again!

QVC

It appears that when it comes to shopping via a television shopping channel, QVC has my number in spades! Look what came in the post...a signed Thanksgiving card replete with savings coupon when I spend $50. I know, I'm pathetic for being such an easy target but...they do have some nifty stuff and a gal has to use coupons. How can I not use this coupon!?!

Friday 5 for November 10: Judgment!

1. When was the last time you did something against your better judgment and what was the outcome? About a year ago I backed a co-worker who ended up flaking and left me holding the bag. It was disastrous and I swore off doing it again.
2. Who in your life seems to be a keen judge of character? My mother.
3. If there is such a thing as Judgment Day, what do you think it will be like? All deceased who are judged to be worthy shall rise again and the living who are judge unworthy shall return to dust.
4. What were the circumstances that led you to the last time you stood before a judge? Boy, I’m really having to go waay back for this one…I guess I got a citation. I can’t remember the last time I was before a judge.
5. If a panel of judges were to evaluate your last potluck contribution, what might their comments be? Excellent choice and it’s delicious!

Howdy

It's a cool autumn night and here I sit on a cold, hard stadium bench
watching a high school football game. Since the school is closed tomorrow in
observance of Veterans Day, the game is tonight. Emmett's son is an
assistant coach so I am here to show support. How I let Boo talk me into
this I'll never know, especially since we both work tomorrow! I know, stop
SMSing and focus on the game - I am trying. My buns are stiff and I think my
leg's fallen asleep because it feels like tiny, electrifying needles are
running amok.

10 songs that sum up your weekend...or were on your weekend playlist...and one picture that relates back. (oh, and if you feel like it, tell us why you picked the songs you did)

After a lovely date of a play and dinner, we emerged to find this glorious full moon casting a beautiful glow. I couldn't resist snapping a photo, even if it's not the best. I wanted to remember the moment and how magical a moment it was. If it's possible to fall in love again, I think that's what's happening in my relationship.

~ Marshall Tucker Band See You One More Time
~ The Cure Out for a Smoke
~ The Police Message in a Bottle
~ Hootie & The Blowfish Before the Heartace Rolls In

We went to see a great little play in Hollywod and this is the musical track to Split. A play about the perfect couple and the demise of their union and its effect on their friends.

~ K.C. & the Sunshine BandPlease Don't Go I feel so ashamed because I couldn't remember the performer. I had to look it up on the Internet! :-(
~ Bruce Springsteen Hungry Heart
~ Stevie Wonder Superstitious
~ Pat Benetar Treat Me Right
~ REO Speedwagon Keep on Loving You

A Day in My Life

Boo and I took a jaunt to the Buena Park, CA Ripley's Believe It or Not and spent a solid 2-1/2 hours perusing the exhibits and being amazed by what we saw. The customs and beliefs of various cultures are always surprising, if sometimes scary! LOL I love learning and being exposed to things that challenge my norms.

The Buena Park differs from the Hollywood location in that they have entirely different exhibits, which is great since I don't wish to pay to see the same twice! Also, the Buena Park location has a fantastic exhibit of items from the Orient, many of them quite exquisite.

Saturday Photo Hunt
Window(s)

Windows entice us to enter and peruse or buy as well as, to peer out and see what's going on outside. One can peer in or out unnoticed, never revealing what's going on in the viewer's mind.

Dia de Los Muertos

What caught my attention at this altar was the calavera (skeleton) of an elderly lady and beside her the calavera of a dog. Near them was a photo of a Siamese cat and mutt dog. Clearly this elderly woman loved her pets dearly and this is what her family recalled about her. Not many altars include the fur companions of decedents.

When I die and if I am fortunate enough to have an altar, I want Buddah's photo, a photo of Boo & me, an iPod/vinyl LP/CD to represent music, a drawing of a computer, and a hot cup of tea!

I haven't been able to get away during lunch for sometime and so I was quite shocked when I managed to get to Olvera Street and admire the altars. They run the gamut from plain to extremely detailed providing a view into the life of the deceased.

Latino culture celebrates Dia De Los Muertos to as an acknowlegment of deaths role in life and to remember our dearly departed as we celebrate their ascension to something better.

While there were many observers, it seems fewer participants built altars and this left me feeling very sad. I hope this occurred because of poor coordination, rather than lost interest.
