Computer R.I.P.
It's amazing what I needed to do to get items ready for disposal. Sounds like an oxymoron, doesn't it? I couldn't simply dispose of things until I'd made certain there was no personal information included.
Example: the computer's hard drives. The darn thing wouldn't boot up so I could reformat them. Instead, I had to open the compuer, remove the drives (a 2 and 4 gig, respectively) and then destroy the two gig. (I've decided to keep the four gig and install it in another machine. It will make a great MP3 player jukebox!)
Anyhoo, the two gig drive couldn't simply be tossed, because it contained a lot of personal information. So I proceeded to destroy it - oh boy, this puppy would not break! Either it was well built or I'm a weakling! Forty five minutes later and finally, that sucker was trounced. LOL
It felt great to dispose of the electronic equipment in a safe, legal and convenient way. I don't want to add to environmental woes by inappropriately disposing of hazardous materials and electronics have a lot of hazardous materials. So, if you're trying to unload stuff, please do it legally and responsibly.
