A Day in My Life

We attended the South Pasadena art fest this weekend in the most fabulous weather we've had in weeks. It's interesting how communities, in search of the mighty dollar and increased revenue, will resort to changes that appeal to those in city council but don't necessarily reflect the interests of the community.

This year's fest was much more upscale with the average item selling at $25. Gone were the Zydeco bands and dancers replaced by a harpist and flutist. If I'm looking for a romantic evening or a quiet dining experience then I'd want the duo, but at an outdoor art fest? Gone were the familiar vendors with funky clothing and accessories and avant garde art.

It was a disappointment to Boo and I, but we made the best of it and soaked in the sunlight and heat! We treated ourselves to a cone of apricot mango sherbert from a local pharmacy and just browsed. I pray my community doesn't fall prey to the same fate in its quest to increase revenue and foot traffic to local businesses. We do not want to be the next Old Town Pasadena attraction.

It's Here....

For weeks, well maybe not weeks, more like a week, I've been hinting to Boo that it's time to upgrade our tired old cell phone that didn't text message, take photos or have a color screen.

After seeing and using Boop's Motorola Razr I was hooked and fell in love with it. That was the cell phone I wanted and God was with me when He had Verizon snail mail me an upgrade offer for ..... the Razr!

Boo phoned about the details and cost and yesterday my pink Razr arrived...woo hoo! By the time Boo arrived home with the goodies, everything was charged and working. When Boop heard I was finally upgrading, she ran out during lunch to buy me a matching carrying case. LOL We gals must accessorize, right?

Boo apparently activated everything via Verizon's website, so convenient and easy! I've spent today exploring and playing with it; the menu options vary from Boop's Cingular plan. I'm learning, having fun and may ditch the digital camera. I have the email addy's I need for photo sharing, but I still need to migrate my phone numbers. Ugh, that's a chore I'm not looking forward to.

Eye Sore

Driving past in a hurry this is all you see and, while it's not beautifying the community, it's not so terrible.

On closer inspection this is the eye sore you see...graffiti. Defacing the wall once isn't enough, some felt the need to cross out opposing taggers/gangs and repeatedly spray their moniker. It's all so senseless; marking their so-called "territory" like dogs.

Quit Smoking Campaign

I loved how this advert attacked smoking as an addiction and, like any addiction, it needs to be stopped. I'd love to see more of them plastered all over town!
Feline Thursday
Rub a slightly dampened towel on your pet to gather her scent, then rub this towel around your new home to deposit your cat’s scent in the new place. When she recognizes her scent in the new home, it will help reduce your cat’s anxiety.

Another rare photo of Buddah outdoors, he's almost fourteen now and doesn't like any cold or dampness on his paws, which is challenging since we've had unusally cool weather lately. Here he's sitting on a porch observing a hummingbird flitting about. Let's hope his movement increases or I may have to find a new subject! LOL

Classic Neon

I like classic style signage and neon and this sign has seen a lot of years. It needs some TLC and attention and I hope the owner will give it some soon instead of simply replacing it.

Random Ten
10 songs that sum up your weekend...or were on your weekend playlist...and one picture that relates back. (oh, and if you feel like it, tell us why you picked the songs you did)

Our Little Girl's been missing since December 2005 and I still fret about what happened to her and where she went. She arrived in our backyard one day and adopted us. She left just as she arrived...mysteriously.

~ Alannah Myles Rock this Joint
~ Frankie Smith Double Dutch Bus (I sing this one at work a lot with Boop and Shy Girl providing back up with snapping fingers)
~ Fiona Apple The Way Things Are
~ Lanky Anybody
~ Carly Simon My One and Only Love
~ Green Day Extraordinary Girl
~ Mase Into What You Say
~ Madonna Everybody
~ Henta Ellis Mirror of Love (A very hypnotic rhythm with a beautiful voice)
~ Natives of the New Dawn Thrill of the Hunt

Observation:
What's going on with the Sopranos no one's getting whacked? We had a beating this week and that's good for points, but what kind of mob family is this if everyone's left standing? LOL

A Day in My Life

It’s very rare for me to have an opportunity to snap photos in the Tudor House tea room and store. It is one of our favorite haunts and very popular with Brits, of course. They sell unique tea pots, cups and saucers, variety of teas, crackers and tea preparation accessories. It’s always quite busy with waits of one hour the norm. Thankfully, they request that all diners turn off their cell phones and most oblige.

Random Thoughts on Van Morrison

~ God was with us; we pulled into the lot as (unbeknowst to us) the final shuttle of the night was about to depart. Clearly, they waited for us to board. Thankfully, we were prepared and hustled to the shuttle.
~ It was a bluesy, country style performance with traditional instruments: fiddle, steel guitar and regular two row organ (no synthesizer)
~ Van's voice is remarkable! He sounds just as he did in the seventies with full vocal range and strong.
~ The band had original bandmates and they've still got it!
~ I felt like I was in the mountains on a camping trip far from city life and it felt fantastic.
~ Thank God it didn't rain, though it looks like it's going to burst any minute as I type.
~ Why do people have to act like asses? One concert goer couldn't sit in his paid seat because a family of Baby Huey's (all of them huge) refused to move and consolidate their shit.
~ I wondered if Van's concert was similar to something John Denver might have had. I'll never know since John's departed. :-(
~ Van didn't interact with the audience. He performed one song after another with a nary a word.
~ All of his songs were tinged with the blues and country twang and sounded great. I enjoyed the arrangements.
~ The two "rockiest" songs were Brown Eyed Girl and Gloria (this was one of his encore tunes).
~ The audience was even more "mature" than the Moodies and definitely more laid back and still hipping. ;-)
~ This concert ended by 9:30 p.m. and I've never - ever - had a concert end that early! Everyone on the shuttle home was still alert, talking and very animated. Another rarity.

Star*ucks Drive Thru

I've read about Star*ucks' expansion including drive thrus but did not know I had one within a ten mile radius. I suppose it's a no brainer in Los Angeles where your wheels define who you are and how good a living you earn. I was still surprised, though.

Van Morrison Concert Tonight

Photo courtesy of Van Morrison's official website.

We've spent the today taking care of business and skunking around, just having a great time and now we're off to catch the shuttle bus to the Hollywood Bowl. Parking at the HB is a huge PITA and after once havig to wait two hours after a concert before we could exit, we changed our stripes and take the shuttle. LOL

Feline Thursday

On moving day, keep your cat in an enclosed room, like the bathroom or laundry room, to reduce his stress and the possibility of escape. Include your cat’s food, water, litterbox, a favorite toy and blanket for comfort.

We put butter on Buddah's paws and then left him in his carrier while inside the house for several minutes. He was too preoccupied with bathing to notice. We then opened the carrier door allowing him to exit at will, but the butter on the paws was so annoying he bathed and preened for minutes before noticing he could exit!

Ring Tones

Since many of us are music lovers, I wouldn’t be surprised at how many have spent $1.99 or more on customized ring tones of their favorite songs. Cingular is now selling ring tones for bands found on My Space at $2.99 each, keeping 75% of the proceeds with the remaining 25% going to the band. I guess they’ve taken a cue from the RIAA on doing business.

I haven’t bought any ring tones yet and I don’t plan on giving the industry anymore money. Let’s see, they gouge me on the price of a CD or give me the privilege of paying $ .99 for one song on iTunes and willingly take another $1.99 or more from me again for a 30 second ring tone of a song I most likely already have paid for. How many times do they expect me to pay for the same bloody song? I’ve already paid for the same album three times: vinyl to cassette to CD and you know I paid more than $11.99 each time.

Hawaiian Vacation

My sister recently went on a cruise in Hawaii and returned with nice gifts for everyone. I was especially impressed with what she brought my mom. I would never have thought to buy these gifts yet, I know our mother will thoroughly enjoy and use them. Some people have a knack for selecting gifts, mine is a challenge. LOL

Van Morrison concert is this week and I’m very excited about my first concert in 2006 at the Hollywood Bowl. We’re hoping it doesn’t rain on Friday, since they’re claiming possible showers!

We’re also hoping Madonna adds dates and venues to her concerts, particularly in Orange County. She’s kicking off in L.A. in May at the Forum, a venue with a terrible sound system and horrible seating. Don’t get me started on the nasty parking lot and outrageous parking fees!

~ Madonna Future Lovers
~ Prince Love
~ Mase Keep It On
~ Van Hunt Down here in Hell (with you)
~ Depeche Mode Strangelove
~ Candy Butchers What to do with Michael
~ Jeanette You Raise Me Up
~ Natives of the New Dawn People

Sixty Eight Degrees

I was out enjoying the sunshine and heat when this lady walked past. I immediately felt hot and over heated and couldn't fathom wearing what she was. Different strokes and all that, I know.
The Net - the great time Waster

Over the past three months I’ve made a conscious decision to spend less time on the computer and more time engaged with family and outdoors. Boo has been very supportive of everything so that's not the reason. I’ve even scaled way back on how many blogs I read and the frequency they’re read.

If I’m going to blog I give myself one hour tops to get everything uploaded and saved. If it doesn’t happen in this time frame, then I don’t post and just sign off. I’ve been coming home quite tired for sometime and I just don’t have the energy to stay online like I used to. Perhaps, I’ve tired of multitasking?

What precious time I do have, I wish to spend enjoying a DVD or TV show with Boo and Buddah or being outdoors, weather permitting. I feel a lot healthier, happier and engaged in life. As spring finally arrives in Los Angeles it’s getting harder to sit at the computer at home after being in front of one all day at work.

How do you handle computing at home?

Border Books Coupon

Border Books has a 25% off one CD or DVD coupon valid until April 16th. I almost missed it myself for not checking my email. I may use it to replace my dual disc CD of Guns N Roses Live, one of the missing CDs my ghost may have taken! It's a hard CD set to find in person. I may have to go online and use the coupon on something else - oh, such difficult decisions! ;-P

Feline Thursday

Is your cat prone to mischief? Do not punish your pet; instead, redirect his behavior to appropriate activities and reward good behavior.

Right now, I'm happy if I can get Buddah to go outside. As he's aged, he's shown less interest in going outdoors for a stroll or to play. I was actually feeling very sad about this recollecting how sprightly he used to be. He went outside today and it's a good thing too, because tomorrow we're expecting another storm! :-(

Trash Can

As full as this trash can is more would be filled if my city would offer them. Perhaps my city doesn't want to increase manpower to empty more trash cans? We need them because strewn trash is a blight.

Motorola Rzr

Lord, help Boo because I’ve recently discovered the joys of emailing camphone photos. Boop has the new Motorola Rzr and I’ve fallen in love with this cell phone and am emailing photos to Boo, Stupes, etc. and enjoying Boop’s phone. She doesn’t know how to use it, so I’m using it such is the destiny of a geek.

We’ve been emailing photos everywhere, especially to her sis in Arizona and text messaging. She has a general account for the photos and text messages so don’t worry about me blowing up her cell phone bill, that’s the first thing I checked. I could see me making excellent use of a camphone! Hint! Boo are you listiening????

This cake was as delicious as it was pretty! LOL

Gifts from friends at work. Seems no one cared for my old faithful plastic 7-11 mug. So rude!

Take Me Back Tuesday

Name your three favourite songs from the 90's.
Prince Delirious
GNR Knocking on Heaven's Door
Depeche Mode World in My Eyes

Name your three favourite artists from the 90's.
Sade, Kitaro, Enya

Name your three favourite albums released in the 90's. (Re-issues count!)
Enigma MCMXC A.D.
Sting Dream of the Blue Turtles
Simply Red Picture Book

It's interesting to look back and see what emotional state I was in during the nineties - a lot more mellow. I think I'm revisiting Enya, Kitaro and Enigma!

Spring...is it really here?

Ah, sunshine, no strong winds or rain, I think spring has arrived. It's wonderful to have temps in the mid-seventies and low eighties. I hope it lasts!

Three good things about today:

~ I haven't been sick like everyone else at the office.
~ The gals have been going gathering for lunch and having many laughs.
~ The days are longer and it's time to walk!

10 songs that sum up your weekend...or were on your weekend playlist...and one picture that relates back. (oh, and if you feel like it, tell us why you picked the songs you did)

Whew, another birthday's passed and with it the consuming of a lot of food and receiving of great gifts - thank you friends and family for making it extra special! I must also mention that we had great weather this weekend because it did not rain. It has rained every weekend for like the last four weeks, so the gorgeous weather alone was a treat! I bought Prince's new CD 3121 and am ripping it to the iPod as I type. My friend DJ Nick turned me onto it. This weekend's music is an eclectic mix of jazz, classical and pop.

Andrew Hill Time Lines
King Floyd Groove Me
Ursula Rucker Super Sista
Josh Groban You Raise Me Up
Van Hunt Character
Mellowdrone Oh My!
Golden State This Time
Madonna Forbidden Love
Depeche Mode John the Revelator
Train I'm About to Come Alive
