Random Thoughts on Van Morrison

~ God was with us; we pulled into the lot as (unbeknowst to us) the final shuttle of the night was about to depart. Clearly, they waited for us to board. Thankfully, we were prepared and hustled to the shuttle.
~ It was a bluesy, country style performance with traditional instruments: fiddle, steel guitar and regular two row organ (no synthesizer)
~ Van's voice is remarkable! He sounds just as he did in the seventies with full vocal range and strong.
~ The band had original bandmates and they've still got it!
~ I felt like I was in the mountains on a camping trip far from city life and it felt fantastic.
~ Thank God it didn't rain, though it looks like it's going to burst any minute as I type.
~ Why do people have to act like asses? One concert goer couldn't sit in his paid seat because a family of Baby Huey's (all of them huge) refused to move and consolidate their shit.
~ I wondered if Van's concert was similar to something John Denver might have had. I'll never know since John's departed. :-(
~ Van didn't interact with the audience. He performed one song after another with a nary a word.
~ All of his songs were tinged with the blues and country twang and sounded great. I enjoyed the arrangements.
~ The two "rockiest" songs were Brown Eyed Girl and Gloria (this was one of his encore tunes).
~ The audience was even more "mature" than the Moodies and definitely more laid back and still hipping. ;-)
~ This concert ended by 9:30 p.m. and I've never - ever - had a concert end that early! Everyone on the shuttle home was still alert, talking and very animated. Another rarity.
