I awoke to a glorious a winter day, with the temps. in the 70s and a slight breeze. It sure felt like spring with the birds singing and perched in the trees. After puttering around the house, my spouse and I decided to have tea in Santa Monica. We drove the 28 miles to the beach and noticed that people had their convertible tops down, and were wearing short sleeve blouses/shirts and shorts. It seemed that everyone wanted to be outdoors today!

After lunch, we strolled along Santa Monica and I finally stopped at the Midnight Special Bookstore recently re-opened on Second Street. This bookstore was in the Santa Monica Promenade for the longest time and when I visited back in April 2003, it's doors were shuttered and a sign indicated they would reopen at a different Promenade location.

However, after going to the location, it was evident that no remodeling and preparation to reopen was being done. I thought the independent bookstore was gone forever. A victim of the Borders Books and Barnes & Noble at opposite ends of the Promenade. Well in December 2003, after having tea I spied the MS new location, but did not have time to visit. So for me, it was like a coming home when I visited the bookstore and perused its shelves and walked in their community room. Thank God this independent has survived!
