Fun
J.Lo is the problem child in my department. She's out at least one day a week and catches loads of flak from all of us when she returns. People see her in the hallway and exclaim "Omigod, it is you!" As further flak, we paper her cube when she's gone again and then snap photos! LOL
I live in Southern California and live the digital lifestyle. I love technology, engage in social networks and thanks to the Amazon Kindle enjoy reading again. I listen to many podcasts and am interested in the paranormal. I don't go ghost hunting or anything like that, but I love reading, viewing and listening to a great fright!

Sometimes I wish I could be more prolific like Blondie and speak my heart and mind. Maybe I'm not cut out for the blogosphere. I can visualize what I want to write about, but when it comes to committing it to bits & bytes, nothing happens. Someone suggested that I try stream of conscious style writing, but still nothing comes.
Hmmm, well there is one thing; we have a situation at work where one employee is being displaced from her position and the person causing the displacement slated to start working the position next week. There's been a lot - a lot - of smack spoken about the new person and it feels like a lynch mob mentality. I believe there are always two sides to every story/situation and I'm willing to give the new gal the benefit of the doubt.
It's hard, though, because the exiting employee is very well liked and connected. She in turn has done everything she can to portray herself the victim and the new employee the villain. So any efforts on my part to dispel some of the rumors, have been met with suspicion and derision. Not exactly a warm, cuddly feeling, know what I mean?
The situation is what it is and the sooner we accept and deal with it, the better off we'll be individually and as a department. The displacement is no ones fault. Hell, the new gal's just trying to hang on to her job like the rest of us. The exiting employee still has employment, just not in our department, so it's not like she's two shades of being homeless or anything.

Ten on Tuesday
8 Truths and 2 Lies About You (let your readers guess which are the lies)
~ Jaime Lee Curtis passed in front of me and I didn't recognize her. Boo had to tell me.
~ The closest thing to Sushi that I eat is California roll.
~ I like nuts and they're a favorite, if dangerous, snack.
~ Every summer I have to have at least one snow cone.
~ I love the water and any water sports.
~ I must have a cup of tea each morning or I'm dead!
~ The average time I keep a car is ten years.
~ I like cycling and walking.
~ I love animals.
~ I got a hair line fracture when I jumped off a 3' high wall.
Can anyone correctly guess which two are the lies?

Take Me Back Tuesday
Thanks once again to the music whore for covering last week. It was a rather hectic one.
I'm keeping it simple this week - I'm feeling compassionate.
1. Name your three favourite songs by your favourite artist. (this means by the same artist) The artist is Elton John and the three songs: Funeral for a Friend, Bennie and the Jets, The One
2. Name your three favourite albums by the same artist. Oh my....just three....Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Captain Fantastic, Peachtree Road.
3. Name three duet partners you'd like to see your favourite artist perform with. Alicia Keys, Enya, Dana Owens.

Baker's Dozen
~ Oh man, the new DVR has saved my bacon three times already. We are loving it so much!
~ Intended to go to Borders for a latte and read. The router, DSL modem and wireless card have been sitting for about week, patiently waiting for my attention. Remained home instead and started working on connecting the wireless router.
~ The desktop is hardwired to the router and working flawlessly. No big deal pretty seamless hook up!
~ The notebook may have viruses. Playing it safe by scanning and reformatting. Let's not talk about the reinstallation of software, okay?
~ Scanning and reformatting can take forever.
~ "Is everything fixed yet?"
Boo excitedly anticipating surfing on the notebook.
~ The notebook with wireless card sees the router, but doesn't connect. I've been at it four hours. Time to call tech support.
~ Two hours later and the notebook still won't talk to the router.
~ "Let's watch Six Feet Under. Relax. There's always tomorrow."
~ D-Link Tech: "I'm beginning to think it's the router. It may be defective. Return it."
"Ugh. I've already removed the UPC label for the rebate. Will Circuit City take it back? Don't I need a RMA number?"
D-Link Tech: "Use this case number when you go and call us back."
~ Circuit City was awesome. Absolutely great! They exchanged the router and wireless card - no questions asked. This is why I love dealing with Circuit City. They removed the new contents from their respective boxes and placed them in the old boxes with the UPC label missing. It's all totally cool.
~ Woo hoo, at 8 p.m. both computers were online and surfing. The notebook is zipping along as fast as the desktop - I love it! Happy dance!!! "You're obviously very tenancious!"
Boo's observation of the Router Weekend. LOL

Digital Video Recorder
We opted for the DVR offered by our cable company and I have to say, I don't know how we did without it. It's so darn easy and convenient. No videocassettes to mess with. No operator error of incorrectly choosing AM when I meant PM. No VCR on channel 3 confusion. No more SP or EP madness; "How could the tape run out? Damn, I put it a four hour record on SP two hour mode." We scroll to the onscreen TV guide. Select the program(s) we want to record and select record. We're asked if we wish to record only this program or all first run programs of this show. We make our selection, go on to watch something else or turn the TV off.
When we return days later, our programs are ready and waiting for us to view. It's so freaking convenient and the quality is spectacular. Not warbly like videocassttes. Since our DVR is integrated in the cable box, we are receiving pure digital recordings. The images are crisp and as if we're viewing them live. Oooh the best part, if you're like me and doze off during a live viewing, you can rewind the last 20 minutes of a program to "catch up". Best yet, we're paying $9.95 month for our subscription versus Tivo's $14.95 a month and saving space by not having to fit in one more Tivo box. We discussed this a good long time and figured that with Tivo, we were buying a box that we still had to pay a monthly fee to use anyway. No monthly fee, dead box on TV. What was the point in owning the Tivo? The catchet? We're happy with our choice.

Ten Things that Annoy You About Work
~ Office politics: nothing like one person having to organize everything and pitching a BF if she can't.
~ One microwave for 25 people. The lunch rush is a bitch.
~ Too short a lunch hour, especially during concert season.
~ Paying for parking. It should be included as a perk!
~ The cafeteria charges for everything and overcharges at that. We pay for condiments!
~ Not enough variety of eateries within walking distance.
~ Doesn't anyone know how to write by hand? The cursive is illegible and printing sucks just as badly.
~ Poor spelling. We all have Microsoft Office. Hello! Spell check, people.
~ We need new computers and an upgrade to Windows XP. We're still using W98 and have no USB ports.
~ When I'm away, don't put an item for my attention on my chair. Put it on my desk or in-box. The chair guarantees that I'm "sitting on it", you feel me? LOL

Baker's Dozen
~ Catching up on blogging.
~ Laundry on a funky day. It looked like it was gonna rain. Still wouldn't be enough to help us break the record. Angeleno's will have to settle for second place.
~ Bobbing to Black Eyed Peas Monkey Business CD.
~ Shazam! The DSL self install kit arrived. The guy said ten days and it's here in two.
~ "It's a brand new tape. I just unwrapped the cellophane on it. I can't believe it's warbled!"
Trying to view The 4400 and finding the audio trashed.
~ Returning a steam iron to QVC and grabbing a cup of java from the Coffee Bean. I'm so glad QVC and HSN give you thirty days to put products through their paces. No one else beats that!
~ Realizing cities have different sales tax, we shopped the Wal*Mart in Lake Elsinore. The savings realized was negligible. Wally seems to have raised its prices.
~ Road trip to the in-laws. Traffic in every direction, so 1-1/2 hour one way commute turned in to two. Aiyee!
~ Punky and Emmet's parents arriving from El Paso, TX for their uncles cancer biopsy. Our prayers are with them.
~ "That's it . I've had it with these VCRs. Please order the DVR from the cable company."
My exasperation after realizing the repeat of Six Feet Under did not record due to a jammed tape in the cassette's housing.
~ Chilling at Borders, redeeming our free cup of joe coupons and buying gag gifts. It's a gorgeous day, too!
~ Picnicking in our backyard and sipping fresh homemade strawberry lemonade. Buddah's running amok and so comfortable.

DSL Kit
Yea baby, the DSL kit arrived yesterday and it's still in the box. I spoke to Boo about asking the Sam the Man to: install an internal 200 gig drive, more RAM and do an image of the drive in its pristine state with the software installed. It will be an easier and more complete reinstall this way. We'll see what Sam the Man says, but until then, I don't see the point in installing the DSL so I'll be on dial up for another week or so.

Tattoo Eyebrows
Loca came to work today with both eyebrows looking swollen and pasty. She had her eyebrows tattooed and they were swollen. To treat the swelling, a wax was placed over each brow, giving the eyebrows a pasty sheen appearance. It looks painful, despite Loca's insistance that it's not. I'm not into pain, so I know I would never do something as unnatural as having eyebrows, eyeliner or lip liner tattooed. Thank God I'm a sissy. I wanted so badly to take a photo, but I didn't know how to approach her. We then went on joking about Latina's not being given Sharpie markers!

Ta Da!
I'm up and running on the new desktop system that Boo's friend provided. It's a 2.66 ghz system with CDRW/DVD player, and more USB ports than I can use. It has built-in ethernet which will come in handy in one week. The system is four times faster than the old one and the CDRW is six times faster. I burned a CDR in four minutes - four minutes! My old system would take 30 - 40 minutes depending on the number of songs. I was shocked when the CDR burned so quickly and immediately checked it, thinking I'd done something wrong and the CDR was now a coaster.
The new system has Windows XP Home, which is a huge leap for me and I have a learning curve ahead of me, especially in securing the system prior to going online. The DSL is ordered, I'm emailing folks alerts about the new email addy, and making certain SP2 and anti-spyware is installed and activated. I've got a good virus program on order and, of course, a router ready and waiting for the DSL connection.
Huge thanks to Boo for the wonderful surprise and kudos to Sam the Man for the hook up. It was a wonderful gesture on his part and totally unexpected. He reaffirms my belief in doing things for others just because one can. My treats may not be as extravagant or significant, but they're done with the same enthusiasm and desire to do something for another. My day was made today by the delivery of the new system! The old computer was kept by Sam the Man and has been reduced to parts and redistributed. I've kept the monitor, keyboard and mouse.

10 Things You Wish You Knew When You Were in HighSchool
- That rising for school isn't the worst there is. There's rising for work for at least the next forty years of your life!
- That many of the people I knew in high school might never be seen again.
- Don't be in such a hurry to grow up. There's time to be an adult, but there's no going back!
- Studying for an exam sure beats endless To Do List for work.
- Girls feet do continue growing beyond 18 years.
- Partying heartily in your youth is good. I should've partied harder.
- The bands from my day wouldn't last forever and I should've appreciated them more at their zenith.
- Vinyl records would go the way of the dinosaur, with many vinyl releases never being reissued on CD. Bummer. I would've taken better care of the vinyl.
- Scalper ticket prices really can exceed my imagination.
- What once was, is no more.

Baker's Dozen
~ Dr. She moved to Glendale this weekend. I'll miss her, though, I rarely saw her.
~ Homemade mac n cheese is a favorite comfort food and it came out delicious. Spouse has done it again!
~ "We're going to the Moody Blues Concert tonight."
Punky: "Really. Did you buy your weed already?"
~ An awesome concert on a gorgeous night at the outdoor arena of the Greek Theater. All the favorites were covered and bald spots dotted the audience.
~ Learning yet another lesson about the digital camera/binocular: Do not remove batteries before downloading photos!
~ New music: Black Eyed Peas Monkey Business
~ Bought a router and wireless notebook card in preparation for DSL.
~ Dining at Gladstone's and then catching Geroge Lopez's comedy show at the Universal Amphitheater.
~ "Hey, if you're dumb enough to take your pet to a Korean vet, that's if you can find one, then that's your own f'ing fault!"
Dr. Kim opening act for George Lopez.
~ "You know what my family did? They called the National Enquirer (true story, swear to God), to find out if I was really sick. Then, they never once called me!"
George Lopez talking about his kidney transplant
~ Laughing so hard and much that I got tired.
~ "Feel like a latte before heading home?"
Shy Girl's hubby: "Can't. I have to get to work tonight."
We thought he'd taken the night off.

Sunday Brunch
Are you game?
"Computer games don't affect kids, I mean if Pac Man affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms, munching pills and listening to repetitive music." -Marcus Brigstocke
1) What is your favorite board game? Scrabble.
2) What type of games are your favorite? (ie, board, card, participatory, dice, word games)? Board and word games.
3) How many games do you own, and if possible, list them. Monopoly, Rummikub, Scrabble, Boggle, Pictionary, Parchesi, Trivial Pursuit, Dominos, Backgammom, Checkers, Sorry, Trouble.
4) Do you enjoy computer or video games? Which one is your favorite? I enjoy the old school (PacMan, Asteroids, Space Invaders, Centipede) a lot more than Halo 2. Of course, the newer Mario Bros. and Donkey Kong video games are still fun. I guess I'm not into first person shooters.
5) Describe a great childhood memory of an outside game. Hide N Go Seek

Moody Blues Concert
I hadn't been to the Greek Theater in about ten years. Most performances I attend are either at the Hollywood Bowl or the Universal Amphitheater (AKA Gibson Amphitheater). So I was uncertain about how bad a nightmare the parking situation would be. It was bad. The only paved parking, which is already sorely lacking, is designated Preferred Only parking. You register for preferred parking on the Greek's website and cannot opt to pay for it the night of the event! So off to the general parking we went, where we parked on the lawn of the adjacent park, bumper to bumper one behind the other, with new arrivals parking beside the other with room enough to slink out of one's door. When the event ended, there we sat in our cars impatiently waiting for someone - anyone - from either in front, behind or either side of us to come so that we could squeeze out of the park. I remember why I avoid the Greek Theater.
The venue itself is small and I couldn't help wonder why the Moody Blues weren't playing the Hollywood Bowl. Acoustically, the Bowl would complement their music and present it better. The house was packed and I saw many a bald head and wrinkle. Yep, Boomers dominated this concert and there's no doubt that Moody loyalists were in full force, ready to recapture their youth and let it all hang out! Steven Bishop opened the show at 7:30 p.m. and performed for thirty minutes. We then had a fifteen minute intermission while the roadies prepared for the Moody Blues. They announced that the show was being filmed for a DVD and that we would have another fifteen minute intermission later in the evening.
The Moody's took the stage at 8:15 p.m. to raucous applause, whistling and cheering. Justin Hayward thanked the audience for being there and they began performing. About two minutes into the song, Justin stopped singing, apologized for the mix up and said, "Since this is being filmed anyway, we're going to do just like the movies and do a second take!" The band walked off the stage and returned about a minute or two later to even louder applause and cheers. This go round, they simply began playing and we were off.
I busily snapped photos with my digital camera/binocular and had about 89 photos mid-concert. Spouse snapped about another 50 on the second pair as the odor of strong Mary Jane wafted in the air. It'd been years since I smelled it, but it was easily and quickly recognized! Whoever was toking was having a very fine night indeed. That was some strong shit. The first set lasted 45 minutes and the second one hour. Anyway, some of the tunes I remember are Forever Autumn, Forever Young, Nights in White Satin, December, Question, Tuesday Afternoon, Steppin' in a Slide Zone, Isn't Life Strange, I'm Just a Singer in a Rock and Roll Band, I Know You're out there Somewhere and the encore was Ride my See-Saw.
The filming of the concert didn't hinder our enjoyment of it. The cameras and film crew were unobtrusive and the concert progressed without a hitch. I would love to see and hear the Moody Blues perform these songs with a full, live orchestra as they did in the 90s, instead of the use of digital tracks. It's wonderful to hear that Justin and John still have their rich vocal range and enthusiasm for live performance. Graeme came to stage level and began dancing and singing and the audience took to his antics and supported his every move. BTW, the second drummer is totally awesome and deserves notice.
I downloaded the images this morning to find nothing was saved for transferring. In small print on page 10 of an eleven page booklet it read: Warning: Be sure not to remove the batteries from the camera before downloading the images. Yea, I removed the batteries last night as we sat in the car awaiting an exit. I wanted to conserve batteries.

Stone Soul's Thursday Performance
Stone Soul has the look, sound, choreography and charisma to move the audience.
An enthusiastic audience grooved on an overcast day.
Stone Soul performed My Girl, Shotgun, When a Man Loves a Woman, You've Lost that Loving Feeling and the ladies took to dancing.
A local newspaper did a story on this guy. He's at every concert getting his groove on and goes by Eagle.
