Ta Da!

I'm up and running on the new desktop system that Boo's friend provided. It's a 2.66 ghz system with CDRW/DVD player, and more USB ports than I can use. It has built-in ethernet which will come in handy in one week. The system is four times faster than the old one and the CDRW is six times faster. I burned a CDR in four minutes - four minutes! My old system would take 30 - 40 minutes depending on the number of songs. I was shocked when the CDR burned so quickly and immediately checked it, thinking I'd done something wrong and the CDR was now a coaster.

The new system has Windows XP Home, which is a huge leap for me and I have a learning curve ahead of me, especially in securing the system prior to going online. The DSL is ordered, I'm emailing folks alerts about the new email addy, and making certain SP2 and anti-spyware is installed and activated. I've got a good virus program on order and, of course, a router ready and waiting for the DSL connection.

Huge thanks to Boo for the wonderful surprise and kudos to Sam the Man for the hook up. It was a wonderful gesture on his part and totally unexpected. He reaffirms my belief in doing things for others just because one can. My treats may not be as extravagant or significant, but they're done with the same enthusiasm and desire to do something for another. My day was made today by the delivery of the new system! The old computer was kept by Sam the Man and has been reduced to parts and redistributed. I've kept the monitor, keyboard and mouse.
