Noontime Concerts

Today was the first day of the Summer Concert series at downtown L.A.'s Pershing Square. My lunch hours will be filled with noontime concerts until September and I am thrilled. Listening to live music mid-day only makes the work day that much more pleasant to work through and satisfying. Today's concert was a Heart tribute band named Dog N Butterfly and I have to confess, I didn't realize Heart had so many songs. Even more surprising was the enthusiastic audience of late thirty and forty something folks in business attire.

The highlight for me was when Dog N Butterfly broke out with Led Zepplin's Rock & Roll. Now that had me toe tapping and clapping and it received the most raucous applause and clapping. The female singer can really belt a tune and the entire band had stage presence, which is great. For me, there's nothing worse than watching a band remain standing in one spot for the duration of their performance. Move around. Interact with the audience. Hell, talk to us!

I've started carrying my cell phone on my lunch time treks. Riding the rails puts me in precarious situations sometimes with equally alarming street smart folks. And, I suppose the camera case I lug around doesn't help much! On the hand, I prefer the camera case to a purse. Nothing screams "snatch me" like a handbag. Why doesn't someone create pant suit cargo pants for women? Seriously. We carry a lot of stuff, just like men and it's not always wise to carry it in a purse.

Pant suit cargo pants would allow me to meet the office dress code, while housing my: digital camera, extra battery and CF card, MP3 player (gotta have something to listen to on the train ride), sunglasses, coin purse/wallet, office ID/badge, security card, cell phone, note pad with pen and business cards (for the free raffle). Clothing designers, listen....design dressy, business-like cargo pants!
