Demise of Compact Discs

Spouse loves tapioca pudding, so I went to Costco buy Harry's brand (it's delicious and close to homemade) as a surprise. I usually don't mull about Costco, because it's always too crowded and I know long lines await me. It's like going to Wal-Mart on the premise of browsing. If I'm wading through Wal-Mart, I better have a specific item in mind, know where in the store it's located and be swift in execution! LOL

So there I am at Costco, tapioca pudding in hand, being cajoled to sample countless food items and not finding any of them particularly appetizing. I wander in search of the CD section and happen upon bestsellers, DVDs, children's books, office supplies .... wait...where's the CD section? Again, I wander through bestsellers, office supplies, children's books, DVDs, computer software and where are the CDs?

I pass a third time and there, intermixed among the DVDs, are two rows of compact discs. Two rows, people. I find this very, very discouraging and feel pain in my stomach. You all know I love my compact discs with packaging and liner notes and do not buy music online, so this latest development is very dismaying. Costco's a major distributor of consumables and if they're carrying a total of six CDs by various artists then, this spells death to the tangible compact disc.

I made a complaint to one of Costco's numerous supervisors and he non-chalantly responded that the future of music is online. With limited shelf space and demand for certain types of consumables high, CDs have been given short shrift. I'm in big trouble if all Circuit City's stop selling CDs. The Pasadena stopped selling them two years past.
