MIA Recap
Because I've been MIA for awhile I thought I do a recap/catch up if you will on what's new or changed or upset me yea, there's some of that too!
~ Been doing a lot of consolidating and painting. Let's say it's been interesting and fun, being that I'd never painted the interior before.
~ Buddah has scored another pet stepper, poor guy's pushing 14 this year!
~ I broke my one and only portable CD/MP3 player and I am totally bummed about it. I use my iPod and Muvo a lot but I still need a CD player, especially when it comes to reviewing mixed CDs.
~ I've lost Boo to Bejeweled. Yep, Boo's been glued to the computer playing away and I'm sick of the jewels on the screen. I swear I'm uninstalling the damn thing! ;-P
~ Alas, I cannot get the HP Scanner that my neighbor gave me to work. I've tried it on three computers (two XP and one Windows ME) to no avail. I'm frustrated as can be and my neighbor swears she had it working on both OSs.
~ Boo may have to increase my cell plan to allow for more photos and SMSs. Hmmmm, Bejeweled may be a blessing....
~ I had no idea how expensive new drapes can be. Just about made some hair fall out.
~ The den has a new set up and I'm slowly adjusting to it. One not so good thing...I've been watching the TV and it's a huge time waster.
~ We're keeping the DSL connection and disconnecting the cable internet in three weeks. I'll miss it, but the cost compared to DSL is a no brainer.
~ Our cars are running great after we finally tuned them up and changed the oil. Funny how that does wonders.
~ I've been so preoccupied with other things that I'm two weeks behind in my podcasts.
~ I'm still hoping to buy a special someone's scooter, especially since it's just sitting in her cousin's garage. I'd love to tool around town on it!
~ I finally reformatted an old desktop computer with a CDRW add on and donated it to the Women's Shelter this morning. They seemed very pleased and it felt great to give it to such a worthy cause. Many of the women are victims of domestic violence and trying to get back on their feet again.
I live in Southern California and live the digital lifestyle. I love technology, engage in social networks and thanks to the Amazon Kindle enjoy reading again. I listen to many podcasts and am interested in the paranormal. I don't go ghost hunting or anything like that, but I love reading, viewing and listening to a great fright!

Take Me Back Tuesday
Memorial Day is the unofficial start of summer in the US....so let's think summer!
What's your favorite way to listen to music on a hot summer day? Listening to music on a great of speakers as I sit outside sipping a margarita, pina colada, iced tea or lemonade with the odor of the BBQ grill nearby.
Do you have any music that you like to listen to more in the summer than any other time of the year? Definitely lots of rock and roll, a smattering of sixties Beach Boys, Jan & Dean and Motown tunes and a mad dash of disco!!!
Do you see more concerts in the summer? And if so what type of venues do you prefer to see those shows? Summer is definitely concert season and I look forward to summer because of the live music and plenty of free live music at local parks and county fairs. My favorite venues are outdoor venues (i.e. Hollywood Bowl, Greek Theater, Starlight Amphitheater, etc.).

Red
Don't know if it's because I've been so busy and am resentful of lack of time and space for blogging or if it's because I'm on fire to complete projects. Either way, red objects have been capturing my eye and this Mini Cooper was eye candy.
There can be no doubt that this car's owner loves his/her baby. She's polished, as well as primed and detailed. Gorgeous car in the heart of car country...Los Angeles!

Take Me Back Tuesday
A different twist on the meme this week....
What has been the best year for you musically? (meaning..lots of great albums...concerts...etc) And tell us why it was. As far as recently, it's 2004 because that's when I saw Madonna, Simon & Garfunkel, Santana and others. It was a year of awesome music, fantastic performances and good seating with most concerts at my favorite venue The Hollywood Bowl.
What album evokes the most memories for you? Santana's Supernatural because there was so much going and Boo and I had the best time at their concert. This was truly a magical night! ;0
Are there any songs that make you think of something or someone? Oh god, how about artists and any song they perform? The Beach Boys and The Beatles are Boo. The Rolling Stones and Tom Jones my mom. Al Green and El Chicano my sister Alice.

10 songs that sum up your weekend...or were on your weekend playlist...and one picture that relates back. (oh, and if you feel like it, tell us why you picked the songs you did)
It was another indie artist weekend and I'm glad. Sometimes I tire of the mainstream music that I own and need a change. Some funk mixed with rock fused with Reggae, nothing wrong with that except that the audience for it is probably pretty small. This means no beaucoup bucks for the artist since they're not in the music industry's eye, which is a good thing because peeps like me come along, find it, give it a listen and appreciate the artist's work for what it is, not because it has the potential to sell a million CDs.
~ Adrina Thorpe Fly
~ The Muffs A Little Luxury
~ Joe Strummer Mega Bottle Ride
~ Chance Say What You Will
~ Brain Buckit Let The Boogie Loose
~ Munk Podpeople
~ Mince Meat Dangerdoom
~ Josh Cruise Mash it Up
~ Jimmie Bratcher Restless for the Sun
~ Robin Stine Daydream

Living with War
I've been listening to Neil Young's latest release Living with War and his lyrics just leave me speechless. This is an album that I can stand behind and give my support. You can hear it in its entirety here, have the volume turned up as the music begins immediately.

Feline Thursday
Proper identification can save our cat's life, a name tag is a must. When traveling, find something with the name of the motel written on it and attach it to the cat's collar.
Buddah doesn't travel much, he remains home and has someone come to the house and care for him. I can't imagine what could be worse than losing your beloved fur companion in a foreign town. Our boy will not wear a collar so there's nothing to attach a tag to. He does have a microchip. If only we'd had one in Little Girl. :-(

DSL or Cable?
Our DSL service is about to expire the end of May and the company's notified us that it's increasing it by $20 monthly, that's a nice chunk of money. Additionally, the free cable internet we've used since December 2005 will expire in June, so I need to scout around and see which company offers the fastest service at the lowest cost.
I still believe cable offers the fastest service in my area and it's what I'd prefer to keep. Traditonally, it's also been more expensive, so we'll see how badly they wish to convert us to paying customers!
I do believe that the DSL provider can be persuaded to either leave our price at the current rate or possibly reduce it $3.00, as they have an ongoing promotion for new customers and it's $3.00 less than what I'm presently paying.
One thing's for sure....folks were right, there is no going back to dial up! I'm presently driving a lot less due to high gas prices and if I have to, I'll slim the gas budget further to pay the increase in broadband! I'll keep you posted.

Ten on Tuesday
10 things that remind you of your mother
~ Jams and jellies mom so enjoys a slice of toast with her favorite jam/jelly.
~ Coffee mom must have a cup first thing in the morning or else! LOL Fresh brewed coffee always reminds me of my mom.
~ Cliches mom's come up with a few gems of her own. All mothers enjoy feeding their children when they visit and one of mom's favorites when everyone's courteously declining: "We have to eat, don't we?"
~ Gardening because mom finds it an enjoyable and meditative experience.
~ Mail order catalogs because my mom easily receives ten new ones weekly.
~ Ice cream because mom has a sweet tooth that knows no end! LOL Ice cream also happens to be my favorite dessert. I wonder why?
~ I don't know the name of the perfume but when mom wears it I know before entering her house.
~ Sharing because my mom shares everything, even if it means that she will not have enough for her. Mom's a very giving person and that's a wonderful lesson to impart on your child.
~ The Rolling Stones mom likes the Stones a lot and they're one of the few bands she plays on her stereo today.
~ Musical performances on TV, especially dancing, mom loves watching and listening to music performed live.

~ Musical performances on TV, especially dancing, mom loves watching and listening to music performed live.

Name three songs that remind you of a lesson you've learned.
Doobie Bros. What a Fool Believes

Elton John it's never good to gorge oneself like a pig; whether it's with food, drugs/alcohol or money.
David Lee Roth don't buy into your own hype. You're on top today and history tomorrow or maybe later the same day!

CSNY Tix
That's Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young for the uninitiated or too young. Yes, they're reuniting at the Hollywood Bowl in July and we have our tickets. I am so excited that:
They're together again
Neil Young has a new album (it's quite political)
They're performing at my favorite venue
The night may be warm by then
Boo is looking so forward to this concert

A Day in My Life
The top photo's of Gerlach's, a liquor type store that I've passed by a thousand times and yet, never noticed that they have a very small take out business on the side. They serve salmon, kabob, fish n chips, sandwiches, turkey burgers, etc. We ordered Koobidei and it was very tasty and more than enough for two. The meat was spiced to perfection and so tender. It's always fun to discover something new in your "backyard" and expand your horizons!

Market Basket Doughboy
I first heard this new story on Friday afternoon on one channel. Intrigued and thoroughly appreciative of the kidnappers good sense of humor and fun, I set out to locate the news story and video. This comes courtesy of Boston's Channel 2 News and I think everyone will get a good chuckle out of it! LOL
The four-foot tall, Styrofoam Pillsbury Doughboy has been apart of the New Hampshire store for 20 years.
Doughboy Found!
Kidnappers Take Doughboy On Wild Ride
(CBS4) PLAISTOW, NH According to the manager of the Market Basket in Plaistow, New Hampshire, their doughboy mascot has returned home just in time for the stores final day.
The four-foot tall, Styrofoam Pillsbury Doughboy, which has been apart of the New Hampshire store for 20 years, was found fishing off a pier in Haverhill by a department of public works employee.
The beloved statue went missing last month. The captors claim to be loyal customers of the Market Basket trying to stop the store in Stateline Plaza from shutting down.
It is still unclear how statue was snatched, but it is very clear he has been on quite an adventure. The captors have been chronicling his plight in a series of photos and notes detailing the doughboys daily doings.
In the first note, mailed from Manchester, the captors wrote: If you close the store, the Pillsbury Doughboy will be baked. The accompanying picture showed the mascot wearing a blindfold.
The photos arrived every couple of days. The Doughboy started looking for a new job, first at Dairy Queen, then Winnekenni Castle in Haverhill, at a local fire station, and even Skips Hamburgers. Unable to find new employment, the Doughboy hit a low point; he started drinking and taking in shows at a local strip club.
A more recent photo showed the Doughboy at Hampton Beach and Canobie Lake Park. The notes have all been mailed from different places, typed in different font sizes, style, and colors.

Movie Watching
Watched the excellent film Walk The Line and was very impressed with Joaquin Phoenix's and Reese Witherspoon's singing and acting. I have never been a Johnny Cash fan but this film’s inspired me to give his music a listen. I’m looking into a greatest hits compilation, unless someone cares to recommend a specific album?
Walk the Line was more upbeat (yea I know) than Ray. I felt cheated by Ray Charles' musical expertise when much of it was drug induced and not really relative to his life experience. At least Cash wrote and sang about his emotional prison and the deep feelings it evoked.
I wanted to see Memoirs of a Geisha in the theater but just never got around to it. Omigod, this film is cinematic eye candy with its vivid colors and beautiful cinematography. The way the story unfolds completely enveloped me and I was too captivated to move for a snack. The film is engrossing and the story telling exquisite. This is a film I want to own (watched it at my neighbor’s on movie night).

Feline Thursday
Strong sun tends to turn black cat fur a reddish hue, but natural shedding restores its original color.
I don't know if Buddah is trying for a new fur color or realizes he's royally busted, watering eyes from his allergy and all. Maybe he thinks I'll just disappear as if I didn't see him? What do you think?

Second Anniversary!
This is my second anniversary and I'm very happy to find myself still intrigued by many ordinary and abundant things! I don't know that my photography's improved much, a very smart gal once told me that only by snapping photos and "getting in the trenches" would my photography improve and my vista expandaed.
I still find it quite enjoyable and a lot of fun. I receive lots of satisfaction from sharing what interests me with others. The comment field doesn't reflect that this site receives many page views but, that's all right, I like knowing that it's here should someone happen upon it.

Napster
Has anyone checked out Napster's new offer allowing you to listen to a song five times for free, plenty of listens to determine if you like something, before opting to buy it? I'm all for it because I get to listen to the whole song, not some bloody 30 second snippet. Almost forgot, you can also send your friends links to songs you're checking out. It can't hurt to give it a spin and you may find new artists to expand your horizons with.

Take Me Back Tuesday
Now that I'm back from an unexpected computer meltdown....
Name three songs that remind you of playing as a child.
Todd Rundgren Hello, It's Me (I didn't understand about being love but watching my sisters with their boyfriends I figured they knew!)
Daddy Dewdrop Chick-a-Boom (I love the rhythm of this song and learned the lyrics)
The Doors Roadhouse Blues (This would move me to a frenzy and was the equivalent of giving me candy!)
Name three artists that take you back to your childhood.
The Supremes, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones (These are all artists that my sisters and mom would listen to at full throttle!) LOL
Name three albums that remind you of summers as a child.
I don't know any album titles, not a one. My family used to buy 45 rpm vinyl, anyone remember those? So most of what they listened to were individual records
