Father-in-law

He's been transferred to a rehab facility and is recuperating quite well. The facility is large and he feels cared about and cared for. There's a flurry of activity, this jam packed Events Calendar pretty much says it all, doesn't it?

Crash Research?

Does this mean this model of car is used in crash research? This specific car is destined for crash research? Or, is the driver of this vehicle a crash test dummy! Inquiring minds want to know.

A&W Restaurant

The weeks have become a blurred and the weekends more so. There's been a lot of driving activity, emotional stress and not much brevity. Along our rides, we've been eyeing an A&W restaurant off I-15 and promising each other that we're going to stop someday. Friday was the day.

We pulled off I-15 even though the traffic was bumper to bumper and we knew we'd be that much more behind. We were too tired and hungry and we needed to refuel. We were not disappointed! The A&W cheeseburger and root beer float tasted just as I remembered them from days long past.

They used to have car hops, servers that would come to your car to take your order, set up window trays for your food and bring the food to the car when it was ready. Rain or shine, the car hops were always there to assist. The last A&W car hop I know of was demolished circa 1977 in Los Angeles. It was the bomb and I have many fond memories of eating there. It was a big deal to be served and eat in car! LOL

Alas, the car hops are gone, but the charbroiled flavor of an A&W cheeseburger and their delicious rootbeer floats still remain - albeit, in short supply. They have a gorgeous Wurlizter-like jukebox that plays CDs, no more 45 rpm records! There was a large customer seated at the adjacent table, so I couldn't snap a frontal photo.
Phil Collins' Farewell Tour

We went to see Phill Collins at the Anaheim Arrowhead Pond. Now many of you how jazzed I've been with my binocular/digital camera combo. So off to the concert we went, binoculars in hand, eagerly anticipating a great evening.

Well let me tell you, we were not disappointed. Phil performed to a full house on his opening night and performed for two hours straight without any costume changes or extended song perfomances. He sang all of his hits and we had a fantastic time. His orchestration and renditions of his songs were absolutely wonderful.

He had a four person horn section and six back up singers. His rendition of In the Air at Night brought everyone to their feet and the lighting was perfectly sequenced to the music. As part of the finale, large colored paper streamers blasted the stage, adding to the evening's festiveness.

What about the binoculars, you might be wondering? In my wisdom I did not check the batteries. So upon arriving at the Pond and scoping the stage setup, etc. I realized that the camera function was inoperable! LOL All well, the best laid plans.

Dearth of active Memes

It must be the dog days of summer because many of the memes I participate in aren't posting questions. Is it because the hosts are having a great time? Or, are the participants out playing and not answering the memes? Either way, I hope this is temporary and the memes will all be back on track soon.

I know it takes a lot of work and effort and I appreciate very much, I truly do. The memes are fun and interesting reads and I miss them. I pray that all of the hosts are fine and in good health.

Midweek Music

Missed the mark

Music that seems to be intended to evoke a happy response will actually trigger a sad feeling in some, and the reverse can be true, as well. I suspect it’s not just because certain music is associated with certain things or situations for some people - sometimes it just doesn’t hit us the way it seems it “should.”

What song or piece of music creates in you a response that seems at odds with that particular music?

At Seventeen by Janis Ian makes many females sad as Janis sings about not fitting in. I never found it sad. I like the melody and orchestration and tune out the words and enjoy the music!

Feeling very Tired

I've been very tired lately, especially emotionally. My FIL was still hospitalized until today. He's been transferred to a rehab facility, one block from his home, and we're told his spirit is strong and he seems happy.

Life's been a roller coaster lately, not knowing if he'd come through the initial heart attack. Then returning home for a scant two days only to be rehospitalized with pneumonia. There he's remained for 15 days, also fighting a staph infection.

If it's been emotionally difficult for me, I can only imagine how my spouse has felt. Thankfully, we have very good communication and have seen this through together. Hopefully, things will settle some, though, we still have the three hour round trip commute to their city for visitation.

My MIL, whose idea it was to move that far, takes for granted that we drive. She wrongly assumes that it's no big deal. Any attempts to enlighten her otherwise, fall on deaf ears. It's convenient for her, forget about us! I'm just thankful the Lord's answered our prayers

Lookie Loos

The one day I decide to try the freeway because I left work at 2:00 p.m., there's an emergency on a road that parallels the freeway. The lookie loos, rubberneckers, whatever you call them, were in full force bringing traffic to a complete stop or 5 mph speeds!

Music Mambo

Top 40 music you either love it or you hate it. That's what we're mamboing about this week guys.

Let's get started with this. Tell us your feelings about top 40 music, using the letters

T-ypical

O-ver played

P-opular

F-ormulaic

O-verly synthesized

R-ip off from previous artist's

T-ired

Y-ank it off the air!

Tell us why you love it. Tell us why you hate it. Tell us anything you think we might want to know about it. Go ahead, you can do it!

Now it's time to really get down and mambo.

1. What song from the recent top 40 charts is your favorite? (Recent being that last 6 or so months) Usher's Confessions

2. Do you thing that most songs in the top 40 are overplayed or not? Tell us why you feel that way. YES! It's like the same songs are heard every 45 minutes to 1-1/2 hours. With all the music out there, can't we get a break?!

3. What band do you think most deserves a top 40 hit, but hasn't had one yet, or hasn't had one in a very long time? Ozomatli

4. In the recent past, Top 40 was mostly rock/pop music. How do you feel about the inclusion of other genres into this grouping? It's pretty much the same thing. It's all over synthesized, formulaic, tried and true beats and sampling.

5. Radio airplay helps to determine how well a single or album sells. Do you think that listeners should have more input into what radio stations play? No. I think artists should, especially indie artists. Many listeners wouldn't know who to add to the rotation because of unawareness of the variety of artists.

Day In My Life

Day In My Life
Weather

Been thinking about the Florida folks hit hard by hurricane Charley and keeping them in my prayers. The news footage I've seen shows a lot of devastation and my heart goes out to these folks. I'm a native Californian, so I haven't a clue what it is to survive a hurricane.

Our weather, for the most part, has been very mild. It hasn't been hot at all and it feels like fall's already arrived. I'm thinking that with such a mild summer, we may have a scorching fall? I remember one year in the mid nineties, it was like 85 degrees on Thanksgiving day and no one wanted to eat such a heavy traditional meal.

I miss the heat...the 90 plus degree temps and the gorgeous hot summer nights. We haven't had any of that. It's been a very different and cooler summer. Now, if you asked my mom, she'd say it's been one the best summers yet! LOL Especially, since she has no air conditioner this summer.

In anticipation of the hot days ahead, her air conditioner was removed in late May. We intended to buy her a new one once the sales came out. Well guess what, since it's been so darned cool, the stores haven't had the usual great incentives and air conditioner sales. Oh well, the best made plans!

saturday-8 :: Hurricane

1. We just went through hurricane Charley. Have you ever been through a hurricane or other major storm? No, but I believe it would be one of the most terrifying experiences.

2. Do severe storms freak you out or do you consider them cool? I love the sound of thunder and the glory and power of lightning. It's so beautiful and dangerous. Loud and magnificent.

3. Are you the type of person who plans things out, getting supplies early, securing your residence, etc. Or do you tend not to worry about those things and just go with the flow? I'm in adequacy country and I have an emergency bag packed and ready to go! I have plenty of water and canned goods in the house, along with propane tanks (small camp stove sized), etc. I also keep a first aid kit in both vehicles.

4. I have some friends in the Netherlands that have no clue what a hurricane is like, they don't even get tornadoes. How do you explain a hurricane to someone with no concept of one? I don't. I also have no concept of its ferocity.

5. Several people were killed because they refused to evacuate when told to. If you were advised to evacuate your home, would you stay anyway or would you go? I'd absolutely evacuate. Life is precious, material things can be replaced. One earthquake I lost quite a bit, but I was just thankful to be alive and have my loved ones safe and healthy.

6. Lots of people were out in their yards and streets having hurricane parties before the storm. Do you celebrate unusual things like storms? Not really but then, the most severe calamity would be an earthquake which is unpredictable. I've seen many a "black out party", especially in 2002. Rather than have the food spoil, we'd clean out the fridge and share with our neighbors.

7. One couple said they were moving out of the state after getting hit by Charley. Does weather factor into where you choose to live? It does with my MIL. After the Northridge earthquake, they packed up and moved to Arizona, where she believed they had none. I think they were there one year or so when they had an earthquake! There is no place where I can go and not experience some type of risk. It's life!

8. Weather personal and news crews throw themselves to the mercy of the storms they chase. If you had the chance, would you take a job as a storm chaser? Oh my God, I would love to try it. I really would. Now that's grandeur.

1. RE: Your blog - when did you start and what made you do it?

I began in 2002 just because. I had no clear motive in mind, other then I've always journaled in some form or other. I waited this long because I had to find the balance between sharing too much and feeling comfortable. There's a lot that I with hold and I make no apologies for it.

2. RE: Someone else’s blog: Is there someone who runs a blog that inspired or inspires you to start and maintain your own? Who are they and what is so special about them?

No. At the time I started, I actually found many of the blogs I perused rather boring and for a very limited audience. I know mine is directed at a limited audience and I'm okay with that. I don't find much inspiration among the blogs. I do find a lot of humor.

3. Show me the linkage! Give us some blog linkage that contain some of your favorite posts and content - - who are they? Why are you linking them?

I don't maintain a blogroll or link to other's blogs.

Friday the 13th!

Do you have any superstitious beliefs about Friday the 13th that dictate or prevent you from doing certain things? I don't. The date and the fact it's a Friday doesn't faze me in the least. My dad believed in not walking under ladders, allowing a black cat to cross his path, or doing anything extraordinary on Friday the 13th. Any of these would lead to bad luck, especially breaking a mirror on this date. Your seven years of bad luck would automatically be doubled!

Any others you can think of and share?

We departed work early Wednesday, drove home, packed and drove 1-1/2 hours to Murrieta. My FIL is in the hospital again. He now has pneumonia. We spent the night at the hospital, my spouse on a cot in his room because he was antsy trying to get out of bed. I slept on a waiting room couch.

A magnificent sunrise is a reminder from God that He is present in our lives, especially during these challenging times. This is what we saw first thing this morning!

Saved! We find a CBTL in Chino, CA and I abruptly pull off the freeway. Sustenance! I don't think I've ever been to a java joint this early.

We're hungry and tired as we wait our turn. It's so early in the morning yet, there's a line!

CBTL has some of the best muffins, bagels, tea and coffee.

Finally getting some fuel. I can't go just anywhere (i.e. Star*ucks). It's gotta be the best java there is! Sharing a bagel with cheese cream sounds like a plan.

Praying for a miracle.
Life

I don't know why, but I didn't blog about my FIL having a heart attack last Friday, 8/6. He's 84 years old, not in good health at all and already has a pacemaker. The cause of his heart attack is a leaky heart valve. Well, yesterday afternoon we were told that he'd been rehospitalized due to pneumonia.

Any patient developing pneumonia is never ever a good thing, but most especially the elderly or infants. FIL isn't looking well and we're now concerned about dementia. He doesn't seem to remember things as he normally would. It seems he won't be released until the weekend and we're thankful that he's receiving professional care.

For my spouse, the most difficult hurdle has been recognizing that FIL is indeed fraile and elderly. It's one thing to know a parents age, it's another to truly realize and accept that not only do they look their age now, they're truly old. It's been a very challenging week and I pray He sees FIL and us through this.

Parting thoughts

What is up with my niece disconnecting her home phone and not letting me know? I mean, have I been like divorced by her family and someone forgot to email me??? I know I've been a little out of sorts lately but, can you give a gal a break?!

Why am I hearing so many jets/planes flying over my home? Did the flight plan suddenly change and we're it now? It's annoying to hear so many loud engines at 7 minute intervals. Does anyone remember Cerritos, CA when a jetliner crashed over several homes and decimated a neighborhood?

Final thought: what happens to socks? Specifically, why are they destined to remain unpaired? What am I do with them?

Thursday Threesome

Flaneur \flah-NUR\, noun:

Onesome: One who strolls- How do you primarily get from place to place? Do you walk locally and only drive for distances? Ride your bike around campus or the neighborhood? Or hop in the car to run errands? I do everything - commute to work, run errands, recreate, etc. - via auto. I used to walk and bike ride but, since hurting my back, don't anymore.

Twosome: about aimlessly; When you have time, do you like to do things outdoors like hike or take long walks? Do you wander rather aimlessly or do you have a destination in mind and the sooner you get there the better? I used to enjoy hiking and walking, but not any more. Now I pretty much have a destination in mind.

Threesome: a lounger; a loafer. Or do you prefer to spend your spare time relaxing, lounging on the couch with a good book or a TV program? Or, since the football season is upon us again, do you plop down in the recliner and cheer on your favorite team? I either watch shows I've time shifted, blog, or I've recently begun reading again. Although I have to admit, blogging takes a lot of my time, especially the photo blogs and I do so enjoy it! LOL

Wednesday Whatevers

1. If you could have your future accurately told, would you want to know and why? No. I don't believe I'm meant to know everything about my future. I really don't I like being surprised and have unwavering faith that God has my life planned out for me. I just need to keep from interfering!

2. When you are upset do you prefer to be with people or in solitude and why? Solitude. If I'm angry and left alone, the anger will subside much sooner, than if someone's inquiring "are you alright?", "can I get you anything?". I'm mad, let me experience the moment so that I can move on. If I'm sad, it's where I need to be at the moment. There's nothing wrong with experiencing emotions considered to be unpleasant. I can't have joy without sorrow.

3. Is brainwashing possible and why? I think it definitely is. Our minds are very susceptible to suggestion. Imagine how much easier our minds can be manipulated if we're held hostage or bombarded with messages.

Daily Dirt

1. When travelling, do you prefer long drives or by plane? I prefer plane if it's no more than a three hour flight. Otherwise, let's drive and see the grand USA.

2. Where was your first out-of-country trip? Haven't had one yet.

3. Who do you usually travel with? Spouse and/or family.

4. What's your favorite destination? Don't have one. Variety is the spice of the life. Let's put it this way, I've been to Hawaii and once was enough. I had a fabulous time, but I'd rather go someplace new.

5. Do you usually travel for fun or work? Fun, fun, FUN! I wouldn't mind traveling for work, though.

Monday Madness

1. Whtat's "it" all about, anyway? It's about living our lives to the fullest without PURPOSELY harming other beings.

2. What radical political ideas do you have, if any? I don't know!

3. Do you believe that you 'fit' the profile of your astrological star sign? As much as I want to believe it's rubbish, yeah, I do. Of course, they're very ambiguous, so how could I not fit the profile?

4. Will blogging survive 2005 or is it a fad? I've wondered about this a lot. Several blogs have gone under and many that remain, are trying to derive revenue streams. I believe blogging is for the fun and/or catharsis. I'm not sure that it will survive in the numbers we're now accustomed to. The die hards remain, but as the phenom that it is, probably not.

5. Do you Ebay? If so, what and how often? Is it a full-time job, part-time hobby, or just to clear the junk from your house? No, but I wish the person that asked this question would share with us how to. I have so much stuff that I need to get rid of and some ideas for items I'd like to sell in a store setting. eBay's very interesting when you think about its global marketplace is unsurpassed.

6. True or False: When I vote, I am all for one party. True

7. Meat or veggie sauce on your spaghetti? What's spaghetti without the meat sauce? Where's the oomph in that?

8. Would you ever be on a TV Reality Show? Well, as much as I'm already on a blog reality show, I wouldn't do TV. Now there would be a face and body attached to it and I'd have to do yucky things, no thanks.

9. What is one thing (or place) that you would like to do (or see) that you have not yet done (or seen?) I would like to sky dive once and do before my 60th birthday, which is a long ways off, so I have plenty of time and HINTS to drop! LOL

10. Do you answer memes honestly? Boy, do I. I sometimes question if I should.

Should I be so frank in answering. I mean, who's going to know, right? Then, I start thinking that if I don't, then what's the point in answering them at all? I'm fooling no one but myself.

Monday Music Mambo

Music evokes many emotions in people and can affect your moods in many ways. That's the subject of this weeks Music Mambo. So to get started let's do something a little wacky. Using the letters E-M-O-T-I-O-N, tell us how music affects you on an emotional level. You can use song lyrics, poetry...anything you want. Oh and since there are so many vowels, the letters don't always have to be the first letter of the world. Just bold that letter...and have fun!

Energized

Mental release

Obstinant

Tranquil

Inspired

Open

Neutral

Sane

Now are you ready to mambo? The bear is..that's for sure.

This week, since we're on a mood/emotion theme, I'm going to list some moods and you tell us the song that makes you feel that way or makes you think of that emotion.

Are you ready to mambo? Good, then let's get dancing!

Happy: Girls Just Wanna Have Fun - Cyndi Lauper

Sad: What A Fool Believes - The Doobie Bros.

Angry: Psycho Killer - Talking Heads

Amorous: You are so Beautiful - Joe Cocker

Dreamy: Cocaine - Eric Clapton

Freaked: Lola - The Kinks

Independent: Cars - Gary Neuman

Misunderstood: Favorite Mistake - Sheryl Crow

RE: Blogs

1. With everything I have going on - - I’ve been sorely neglecting my blog. Are you ever guilty of blog neglect? Do you feel bad? Guilty? Do you just NOT blog at all? Or try and fill your blog with stuff just so that there are regular updates? What is a busy blogger to do?? Do tell!

I have been known to fill my blog with STUFF by answering nothing but meme's. Lately though, I've had more that I'm willing to share and write about, so the meme's have gone to the side. Of course, the ONE meme I always look forward to was gone for a week so, consider yourself spanked!

There's a lot going on in my life, just as there is in yours and everyone else's. The problem is, how much do I want to make public and, therein, lies my challenge to blog or not to blog. I can never be certain who's reading it and whether it will cause dire consequences, right? So better to err on the side of safety than risk hurt feelings, etc.

2. Speaking of blog content . . . do you have things you have been meaning to blog about - but just haven’t gotten around to it yet? Share your top 5 “Blogging To Do” list with us!

1. Geek gadget must haves

2. Weekly day in my life photo post instead of text. I just can't decide if I should do it on a set date or whenever the mood strikes me.

3. Ponderables....ever wonder about things that are elusive and don't have a clear cut answer? I do all the time, especially at night when I'm lying in bed waiting for sleep to overcome me.

4. Bizarre news stories that are so unbeliveable, I think they must be hoaxes.

5. Challenges...we all have our challenges...but I'd like this subject to have feedback and that's one challenge I have: how to get readers to post comments/feedback. I know they're reading, but how to get them to post!

Weekend Wonderings

Gift Shopping

1. Do you put off your holiday shopping 'til the last minute, or start early? Have you started already? Heck yeah, I've already purchased six Christmas gifts. I like having my choice of color, style, options, size, etc. There's nothing worse than waiting until the last minute and picking through the picked over items!

2. How long before someones birthday do you buy their gift(s)? When do you give it to them? Now that's a different kettle of fish...I can be very last minute about birthdays or totally prepared. I like giving gift certificates, so that helps a lot. I really believe in buying someone what they want, rather than what I think they should want.

3. Does buying gifts come easy for you? Yeah, I think it does. The only person I truly stress over is my spouse. You know, I always want it to be something special and therein, lies the challenge I place on myself! LOL

Please excuse the reflection. These were shot in a very busy restaurant. I was struck by their subject and wondered: What is this aboriginal painting about? What does it mean to you?

Friday Feast

Appetizer

Who are 3 actors/actresses that you think are totally overrated?

Claude Van Dame

Vin Diesel

Lorenzo Lamas

Soup

Admit something. Anything.

Okay, I once blew a bubble gum bubble and farted at the same time. Of course, the bubble burst shortly after.

Salad

If you could take back one thing you've said in your life, what would it be?

"I thought she'd back."

Main Course

What symbol would best represent your personality?

The exclamation mark!

Dessert

Choose a free gift: a daily back massage, dinner at a restaurant twice per week, or a brand new book twice per month.

If it would be a book of my choice, then the books. Otherwise, dinner twice weekly.

What would you have done?

A child and mother are walking along the corridor between Union Station and the parking garage. The boy is struggling and wrestling to be free from his mother. He's about 6 years old and, when it suits him, allows himself to collapse on the floor, weighing his mother down. Pedestrians walking behind the couple, almost mow them down and trip over them.

The mother asks the child to behave and stop, then scolds him. He continues with renewed vengeance, alternating between striking his mother, screaming at the top of his lungs and pulling on her packages. The mother stops and spanks him on his bottom.

Suddenly, all eyes are upon the mother and child. Passersby stare - some of them glaring as if daring the mother to spank the child again. I watch the reaction of strangers, who are not privy to the mothers struggle yet, assume she is in the wrong and bad for disciplining HER child. Just as quickly, a security guard arrives to inquire the problem.

The mother begins explaining and is interrupted mid-sentence, by a passersby who informs security that the mother has hit the child. They're asked to step aside, off the path of pedestrian traffic, as I continue walking. It's said that it takes a village to raise a child. Would you have told?

Thursday Threesome

::Surprises in the Mail::

Onesome: Surprises-- Hey, do you like surprises? ...and what kinds? Birthday parties, dinners out? ...or are you one of those people who absolutely has to know what's going on before it happens? My spouse will arrive home with surprises of clothing or something for my camera. Or, packages arrive from HSN and QVC bearing surprises. I love being surprised, especially because I hate to shop!

Twosome: in the-- nick of time: How do you keep track of birthdays and anniversaries and events you need to remember but only occur once a year? ...and where is your bailout place for cards and such when you've cut things a little too close? I've place all important events in my PDA and set them for annual reminders. Also, B. has a very good memory so that helps a lot!

As for cards, Hallmark is my favorite haunt, of course. In a pinch, I can make one with my rubber stamping supplies. Lord knows, I have enough to make several cards! LOL I also sometimes buy several theme cards and have them "just in case". That's certainly helped a whole lot.

Threesome: Mail-- Mail Call! Did anything interesting show up lately besides the bills? ...and do letters and cards still make it to your place or have email and ecards taken it all over? Inquiring minds and all that... Thankfully, cards still make it to my home. I'd miss them terribly if they didn't. Especially come Christmas time when my niece sends photo cards. I love receiving those best.

I received several fun items in this week's mail. A new jean jacket, pink cotton top with hearts, and black caprice. All will probably be worn this weekend. I have to "break them in", afterall. I mean, if I don't wear them, how can I be sure they fit???

Hearing Aids

Are there any healthcare pros out there who can advise me about purchasing a hearing aid? My mom recently tested positive for hard of hearing and Kaiser Permanente suggested a hearing aid. The problem is Kaiser does not pay for, subsidize or issue hearing aids. I inquired if Medicare would pay for or subsidize the expense and Kaiser Permanente said no. Hearing aids cost between $500 to $2,000 - how's a senior citizen, on a limited income, supposed to afford this?

I'm sure I can't be the only boomer navigating these new waters on behalf of parents. It's very difficult to find the information from reliable sources. We need a clearinghouse of information pertinent to senior issues, etc. I'm thinking that Medicare may not subsidize a hearing aid for my mom because she has medical insurance through Kaiser.

I've already faxed the information to the California Access Program, so that my mom can receive a special phone to assist her hearing. Many times my mom can't hear what I'm saying and i either repeat or she says nothing about being unable to hear and changes the conversation. I just wish there was more that I could do. Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What's on Right now

What's on 'your menu for dinner tonight' right now? Leftovers...there's leftover BBQ ribs, PF Chang's Chinese food, and carne asada burritos. I know, what a variety, but I hate to waste food and there's enough for each person to have a complete meal of their choice.

Wednesday Whatevers

1. In general, do you treat eating as a pleasure or a need? Good question, a pleasure, I think.

2. What is your opinion on recent low carb craze? I'm confused by it, especially with respect to eating so much beef and the threat of colon cancer and the body taking longer to digest it. I know folks who swear by it, though.

3. Do you wake up when you have to, or do you stall / snooze forlonger? Oh dear, you know I stall and, if the snooze button is still intact, hit every button on the darn clock!

Wasting Precious Time

Can you relate....I waste more time looking for things than anything else. I'm working on the 26 Things Photo Scavenger Hunt and what's missing....my digital camera with CF card. THE CF card holding images for the project!!!! The last time I saw the camera was Friday evening after the viewing and dinner. For Saturday's turnaround trip, I used my other digital camera. Thank God that I have two or there would be no photos and memories to share! Ugh, I drive myself nuts sometimes. I'd lose my head if it wasnt' attached - I swear I would.

Today at work, I was inventorying boxes and recording barcodes on my clipboard. Well lo and behold, I set the sucker down and thus began my two hour quest to find it. Two hours. I finally found it in the photocopier - don't ask. I don't HOW it ended up in the photocopier as if I was intending to copy it - clipboard and all! Yup, I waste a lot of time looking for things. Okay, I'm off to search some more for the camera and CF card. Wish me luck!

It's becoming more common to see homeless adults with children. A very bad testament to our state as a society. It's hard enough to be an adult and homeless. I can't imagine what the children must experience.

Stateline Turnaround

Snacks are always an important component of any trip!

We went on the turnaround yesterday and had an absolutely great time. My neighbors Ica & Lety, sister Glo and comadre CCP enjoyed ourselves from start to finish. Everyone in our group was a winner because we either won at Bingo, raffle or on the machines. No one returned home a loser or disappointed. CCP is already set to return again and is now talking about going to Pechanga! LOL

Whew, a much needed pit stop in Barstow.

Photo opp during the pit stop! One happy crew read to bring home the moola!

Luckily for us, the three casinos (Buffalo Bill, Whiskey Pete's and Primm Valley) provided air conditioned shuttle service between the hotels via bus or monorail, so we were never sweltering in the heat. Though for me, it wasn't hot at all. I felt comfortable and happy to be in the heat and sun. On the other hand, turbo fan CCP and Glo, well, let's just say they could've been happier! LOL

First thing I saw pulling into stateline casinos. Help, they're everywhere!

More buses and recreation vehicles with occupants hoping to strike it big.

Also, the Primm Valley casino has an outlet mall in its complex, so we spent time there looking around and shopping. It was so convenient and comfortable, not like the old days when the bus would deposit you at one casino where you were watched and expected to remain for the duration of your visit.

Who doesn't need a massage (see center) or something to buy?

Here, we were able to wander wherever we wished unchaperoned. I suppose we could've split the cab fare and taken the 25 minute drive into downtown Vegas proper, but it wasn't necessary. Everything we needed to occupy our minds, time and, dare I say, money, was at stateline!

A good way to end a great day: snacks for the two films we'll watch on the ride home!
