Ads for the Holidays

Let's see, in my mailbox I've received no fewer than five ads heralding "super saver sales" this Saturday only. Of course, what holiday would be complete without the clapper, the device that sits between your lamp and wall outlet. "Turn on the lamp, clap on, clap twice (off)...clap the Clapper!"

The ubiquitous Chia Pet is already making its presence known. Where would I be without my Chia? Petting my cat Buddah is relaxing, but he knows Chia Pet. Of course, Buddah may opt to maintain my little Chia by cropping its grass and keeping it in a perpetual crew cut!

Mervyns and Penneys are vying for our dollars by offering extra savings today only and coupons for even more savings. I'm sitting tight and not biting. My holiday shopping's begun and I'm not in any hurry to meet the crowds. Besides, we have our first Kohl's opening soon and they're sure to generate a lot of healthy competition!

Of course, my local Ralphs market started playing Christmas music on October 2nd until customers complained. The cashier rolled her eyes and muttered that she had to listen to it all day, which only made me feel sadder. I think within a week, the Christmas music had stopped and sanity restored.

So I'm off to Costco, yes I know, another den of madness, but if I don't go this weekend, I won't go until after the holidays. Talk about circling the parking lot in search of a coveted parking space, waiting your turn to stroll the isle with your basket and winding checkout lines!
