Happy 80th Birthday, Mom!
Today is my Mother's birthday and I was thanking God for my good fortune of having my mother alive and in my life. I can't tell you how many friends and co-worker's do not have their mothers, something I can't begin to imagine.
My Mom, whom I'm very proud of, is the inspiration and guide of who I am today. She has taught me everything that is good in me - sincerely, she has.
All of my patience, empathy, humor, love, appreciation and kindness come from lessons taught and examples given by my mom. She raised us as a single mother and I truly believe she did a splendid job.
My mom bought her house on a single income and at an age that many women would believe daunting. It was her dream to be a homeowner and she pursued and attained it and I'm very proud of her.
She taught me a lot about not creating bad karma for myself or loved ones, because indeed what goes around comes around and I cannot control where things may fall.
My mom always made our birthdays a special day and celebration. I've had friends for whom their birthday was just another day, not unlike any other. My mom always made certain that we knew when it was our birthday and made us feel special.
I now feel it's my turn to reciprocate, even more so now that I'm out of the house. So after work, I picked her up and we ran a few errands and then drove to an Italian restaurant for dinner. Boo drove directly from work to the restaurant and made it in record time - no small feat on Friday evening and 35 miles later!
Our favorite accordian player was present to serenade us and at the end of the meal he sang Happy Birthday to Mom and the other diners clapped and cheered. I felt happy to see Mom's smiling face and again thanked God for my good fortune and many blessings.
My mom. I love you and pray that God keeps you in very good health and spirit!
My dad's going to be 80 next month.
