We went to the fair today, which is located near the beach. The weather was perfect with no humidity and plenty of sunshine. We didn't buy much but spent a lot of time in the Toy Exhibit. Yea, I'd say we spent a good 1-1/2 hours in the toy exhibit looking at toys from the fifties, sixties, etc. Boo spent an inordinate amount of time focused on the marble and top collections. I didn't know such a variety of marbles existed. I was focused on the board games of yesterday and.....lunch pails. Anyone remember those? Omigod, I had a Partridge Family and Brady Bunch pail and if only I'd had the foresight to save them.
We saw some amazing stuff created with Lego's. I can't imagine the time, patience and expertise to create them. I know I couldn't do it cause I'm too impatient. Oh, I saw the bendable/poseable Gumby, Pokey and Speed Racer. Didn't know Speed Racer came bendable. I wanted a Gumby, but instead Boo bought me a top. Yea, like I'll know how to use the damn thing! I had never seen a top with string. Seriously, I had to shoot a mini-video of the gal demoing it or I'd never be able to use it! So many things to see and reminisce about.
I was disappointed with the Visual Exhibit because everything was standard, everyday stuff. No altars this year or mixed media. It was either straight photography or ceramic or sculpture. The works were amazing and creative, just quite predictable. Last year's presentations were very much extraordinary. Alas, the Hobbies & Crafts exhibit while a kaleidoscope of color and rich variation of material, were scaled back. The quilts that were displayed, were suspended from the ceiling and largely difficult to see and appreciate the craftsmanship.
Tomorrow's a new day with the Ozomatli and Los Lonely Boys concert at the Greek Theater. This time we're arriving earlier rather than later, hoping to secure a decent parking space and I will follow the main route out of the venue, rather than opt for the scenic route. Either way, both routes spill onto Los Feliz Blvd. and I must still contend with the traffic snarl!
Oh my gawd, Donny and Marie....gag me!
