I live in Southern California and live the digital lifestyle. I love technology, engage in social networks and thanks to the Amazon Kindle enjoy reading again. I listen to many podcasts and am interested in the paranormal. I don't go ghost hunting or anything like that, but I love reading, viewing and listening to a great fright!

So tomorrow's April 1st and supposedly more layoffs will occur. One of the layoffs may affect a very dear and longtime friend of mine and to date he has said absolutely nothing. I'm stuck. Do I approach him about it? What if he genuinely doesn't know? On the other hand, if indeed he doesn't know, I can't imagine how devastated he'll be after 25 plus years. The thought of him leaving without saying good-bye leaves me with a dead, empty, sad feeling. I hope and pray that my 'source' was wrong and my friend receives a reprieve.

Wednesday Whatevers
1. What noise bothers you the most? Super loud bass, foul lyrics and lousy songs blaring from auto stereos. So loud that, they cause MY car to vibrate!
2. Which emotions seem to take the best of you? Profound sadness.
3. What do you take pride in the most? Being level headed and maintaining perspective under the most stressful circumstances.

Tuesday Twosome
Driving:
1. Rain or Snow? Rain. I don't enjoy having to install and use chains. With my luck, I'd put them on wrong anyways!
2. Music from the radio or compact disc? Oooh, CD, of course. The radio plays the same pop tune junk over and over.
3. Yellow light: "slow down" or "go faster" ? Depends on where I am in the lane when it turns yellow. I might speed up if I think I'm safe!
4. Freeway or feeder road? I'm a freeway gal at my core. I havet o be near freeway access. Speed!
5. Road Rage: "what's that?" or "Heck yeah, and you better not get in my way!" What's that. I'm not risking my safety or life and that of my passengers for some buffoon.

Random Questions; Random Days
Do you have pets? Should they be kept inside or out? Girl please, do you expect my boy to stay outdoors all night, in the cold and dirt without the accommodations of his favorite comforter, pre-warmed wet food and bottled water??? Shame! Buddah's an indoor cat all the way. He can't miss his Pet Channel and down pillow.
Tuesday Iffer
Time Is On My Side...
If you had 25-hour days (while everyone else continued to have 24-hour days), what would you do with the extra time? Why?
I would spend it with my nephews and godsons. We'd have one on one quality time and it would be whatever they wanted to do. Nothing dangerous or bad, just whatever they wished to do.

Sadly, today's the end of my mini-vacation. I have had a wonderful being off with my spouse and just enjoying ourselves. I slept in today and was eating breakfast at 11:30 a.m. - a rarity for me.
I made it to the camera shop this afternoon to submit my photos for free printing. I didn't think I'd make the deadline for this month but, seeing as how I was even dreaming about it, I figured I'd try and the worst they could do is admonish me and tell me no. Thankfully, we were assisted by a very cool and laid back guy with a terrific sense of humor.
Also, for the first time in months I wore sandals and my little sausages saw the light of day! LOL It was so warm today that I would swear it was 90 degrees. My niece bought me a cute Tigger shirt for my 24th anniversary and I wore it for the first time today. It fit perfect and the material is thin - thankfully. All day we drove around with the air conditioning on!
Oh yeah, for any folks with an Office Max in your area, check out the CDR special they're running this week: 100 pack CDR for $19.99 less a $20.00 mail-in rebate, your cost is $0.00. I couldn't pass this one up! Sadly, I was able to find only one package. They'll get a new shipment in on Wednesday....guess where I'll be??

I am beat, we spent the afternoon in Santa Monica and did a lot of walking and lookie - looing. If you want to be seen, the Santa Monica Promenade is the place to be. Everywhere you turn, someone's itching to be noticed. Every manner of dress and hair style exist and women's faces are made up like they're appearing on stage. Too much make up and heavy on the bright colors!
The balmy weather brought the street performers out and there are a lot of very talented and gifted people. I give them so much credit for their hard work and the nerve it takes to perform in front of a, somtimes, unruly audience. Most spectators are kind, but every so often a bad apple enters the sphere and well, I sure wouldn't want to be the performer being heckled.

Sunday Brunch
More This and That
1. Are you organized or disorganized? A little of both because I'm very forgetful. When I don't forget things, I'm organized!
2. How well can you swim? I can't. Don't have a desire to learn, either.
3. How often do you fill your gas tank? About once every two weeks. I don't drive that much during the week and live close to work.
4. Where is your favorite vacation spot? Home. I don't like to travel a lot. Once every blue moon is fine for me. I enjoy being in my home so much more that, I don't need to go elsewhere to have fun.
5. What is you favorite animal to have as a pet? A cat, of course. They're very fastidious and clean.

Boy, it seems like no matter where you go in L.A., there's a film crew. While at Palermos, seated at a table behind us, a couple was being filmed. My nephew James guessed that it was for the Spanish reality TV show Buscando Amor. When I felt comfortable enough, I asked the server and she confirmed James' guess.
The couple was there for the majority of our meal and, if what I saw is the average reality TV experience, I'll stick with being a viewer and not a participant! The couple spoke to each other only when the cameras rolled. Other than that, they each observed the opposite sex as they walked past, looked at their shoes or ceiling, or simply sat and looked bored out of their minds.
Even the film crew wasn't very communicative and they wandered about, rather than remain seated at adjacent tables. The cameraman filmed the requisite scenes and then made a beeline for parts unknown. The director and assistant, chatted briefly and then they also departed for some time. The couple ate their meals in silence and looked like caged animals.
On the other hand, our table was filled with the sound of simultaneous conversations, observations and laughter. I actually felt sad for the Buscando Amor couple and don't think this date was the charm for either party. Ceci says this show is the Latin version of Jerry Springer, with couples disrobing and jumping into jacuzzis at every opportunity. Unless the couple had a lot to drink later in the evening, I don't think any of that was happening between them! LOL
Becca enjoyed a delicious meal, wonderful company, received very nice gifts, and had a great time. I don't see my sister very often, so it was an opportunity to see visit with her. Everyone seemed in good spirits, even Ceci who was a real trooper even though she wasn't feeling well - thank you, Ceci. You know I love ya!

Thank you, Lord for a glorious day! We went to Solvang today with the express purpose of having Anderson's pea soup. Well, we arrived mid-day and took our time strolling and shopping. The weather was, dare I say....fabulous! There was a slight breeze and it was a vey nice 75 or higher degrees. While it hasn't changed much architeturally, it has become more commercial and lost some of its quaintness.
All the stores still close up at 5:00 or 5:30 p.m., so if you're not there by mid-day, there's no point in continuing forth. We took a lot of photos and the time to notice the surrounding neighborhoods which, surprise, very much resemble any other neighborhood in the United States. The houses are not designed around the Danish theme.
As luck would have it, we ate a traditional Danish meal of pork, cabbage and mashed potatoes very late in the afternoon and, hard as we tried to walk it off, we weren't hungry for pea soup when the time to leave arrived. No surprise there, huh? It was nice to go on a nice drive, the majority of it along the Pacific Coast, and view the rolling hills and the magnificent ocean. I had an excellent adventure!

Woo-hoo, it's my Friday. No work tomorrow or Monday - I'm on vacation days. We had planned to go to Frisco, but that was put on hold. If the weather's warm and nice, we'll drive up to Solvang on Friday. If not, we'll hang around home, maybe consider going to Disneyland or the mountains.
It's been a sad week work-wise. We've received word about another 15 positions being abolished and two more positions in administration. Our CEO had warned that layoffs were imminent, but no one believed they would commence this swiftly.
Our company's history has always been that layoffs ensue within two to three months AFTER they're announced. This round has caught many by surprise because they're swift and very concentrated. Some small departments are almost decimated.
I feel bad for those losing their jobs and equally sad for those remaining. They'll be expected to do double or triple the work in the same amount of time. Also, there's nothing like around your workspace and seeing empty cubicles where once a friend/co-worker occupied.

Onesome: Computer- What was/is your first computer? A clunky old Commodore or something a touch more modern? Whoa, now you're going waay back....it was a Timex Sinclair computer, replete with programs on audiocassettes that you played through a generic cassette player! The monitor was a 13 inch TV.
I then graduated to a Commodore 64 with a 5-1/4 inch floppy external floppy drive and an amber monitor. See, I no longer used a lowly TV! But the baby I really consider to be my FIRST computer is....the 128K Apple Macintosh with its 9 inch built-in monochrome monitor. I went online for the first time in 1984 on a .... brace yourself....300 baud modem that I had to re-solder the connections myself in order for it to communicate with the Macintosh.
Twosome: Anti-Virus- Have you ever had a computer virus? How bad was it? Or are you one of the lucky ones who have managed to avoid them? I've received only one virus thus far and it was a MS Word macro virus. It wasn't difficult to eradicate at all.
Threesome: Software- What piece of software really made you more productive on your computer. ...or, as in my case, less productive? *g* The word processing program MacWrite. Man, I would just zip along with letters, class assignments, DTP articles, etc.

Wednesday Whatevers
1. What are your views on pornography? I believe if you want to indulge in and view it, that's your business, However, the exploitation of children, disturbs and angers me. Once children are involved, you've crossed the line from pornagraphy to pedophile and your rights end there and then!
2. What would you like done to your body when you die? I was considering donating my organs, etc, but after the body snatching, illegal selling and trading of body parts at UCLA, I'm hesitant. I'm not considering it any longer. I may change my mind later, but for now, I'm sitting tight.
3. Would you rather eat your tongue or your hand? Neither!

Daily Dirt
In your hood…
1. What's your neighbourhood like in the morning? Quiet, very quiet. Most household lights are on by 5:30 a.m. with many folks leaving around 7:00 a.m.
2. What is it like around midnight? Dead quiet, save for the occasional emergency rescue vehicle.
3. Do you know a lot of people from your neighbourhood? I know my immediate neighbors up to two houses down and across the street.
4. How safe is your neighbourhood? It's all relative, isn't it. It's as safe as any other neighborhood with a Neighborhood Watch group.
5. Get outta there or lovin' it? I'm staying. I love my neighborhood and the neighbors. I'm within walking distance of many things and I feel comfortable and safe.

I received upsetting news today: a very dear friend and co-worker is being laid off effective April 1. I found it from a friend who works in payroll. I phoned my friend to see if he would allude to the news, but he said nothing. Of course, I did not broach the subject. I didn't know how. So there I sat making idle chatter and feeling a huge rock in the pit of my stomach.
We discussed a mutual friend who was laid off two weeks past and how is abrupt departure left me feeling bad and at a loss. I mentioned how much I would have liked to say good bye. Hoping that my friend would mention his impending departure, but he held steadfast.
Layoffs are awkward, painful, sad and scary. I've known my friend for 24 years. Twenty four years of watching family members grow up, going through sad and happy times, sharing many jokes and laughter and now, this. I'm really upset...sad. I don't want March to end.

TV Tuesday
Calling Dr. Bombay... Calling Dr. Bombay... Emergency, come right away!
TV doctors from Kildare to Kovac have been healing our ills since way back when. (Remember Steve Martin on the original Saturday Night Live, as Theodoric, Barber of York?! A good blood-letting always cured what ailed ya!) Yep, from leeches to CAT scans, we love our TV Docs!
1. Which TV doctor would you choose to remove your appendix? Marcus Welby, M.D.
2. Which TV doctor would you not let touch you with a 10- foot pole? Dr. Kildare
3. Which TV doctor/hospital would you choose for the best medical care? You said *TV* hospital, remember that. I'd pick General Hospital.
~Bonus~ Everyone knows nurses run the hospital. Who was/is your favorite TV nurse? Julia, of course!

I thought this was an interesting quote. Please comment on it: "We must learn to live together as brothers or we will perish together as fools." ~Martin Luther King, Jr.
If we don't learn to accept differences in philosophy, religion, ethnicity, culture, etc. and see how we share more similarities than dissimilarities, we're doomed. As a society, we will self destruct. Look all the hatred and mean spiritedness surrounding same sex marriage. Our leader, the resident, even wants to amend the Constitution! Thank God for

What Happens at the Equinox
The calendar says it's officially spring. Where I live there is still about 18" of snow on the ground. BUT ... I'm optimistic that I can get into my spring rituals soon.
1. Do you get a spring break? Officially, no. Unofficially, you bet!
2. Some of us are pretty casual about spring cleaning. Others go to it with a lot of gusto. Which are you? Casual. My gusto's for living and having fun!
3. Is planting flowers or a vegetable garden on the agenda? No. However, my spouse is gardening as I type.
4. Do you suffer from allergies and do they get worse in the spring? I do have allergy concerns, but thankfully, pretty much skate through. My spouse, on the otherhand, suffers a great deal.
5. How will you celebrate Easter this year? Possibly attend church and celebrate with family. I don't know if we'll color eggs, the boys may too grown for that!
Daily Dirt
Last night…
1. Where were you? I was with James, Ceci and family. We were laughing and having a great time.
2. What time did you sleep? Around 11 p.m.
3. What were you thinking about? The long drive today, 1-1/2 hours each way.
4. Did you brush your teeth? Absolutely, if not, it would bug me all night.
5. Did you visit Daily Dirt? Sure, I have the new questions, don't I? LOL

www.what?
1. Why do you love the internet? The ease of researching and locating information is instantaneous and convenient. Where would we be without it?
2. Why do you love blogging? It's fun, interesting and you meet a lot of people. I'm from the OLD school of BBSs and UseNet. Back when the Net was smaller and not everyone knew about email. Back then, BBSs were localized and the opportunity to meet the people you were communicating with was greater. We used to have BBQs, etc. It was fun and I miss that aspect. Today, the Net is so vast and global, the opportunity to meet the people I email is non-existent.
3. Why you will love having your own domain? I don't yet. However, I will shortly. My own domain and website is my spouse's anniversary gift to me!
4. What's your favourite site other than yours? www.howstuffworks.com
5. Why do you love Daily Dirt? Do I???? LOL

Today turned out to be a very nice day work-wise. I listened to a variety of music and was very productive. I chatted with Ceci, my comadre, and as usual, we talked about so many different things and laughed a lot. She keeps me company and I always enjoy my conversations with her. We pretty much have the same sense of humor and hearty laughs. None of the fake, upper throat laugh. Ours comes from deep within our stomachs and we let lose. We're not trying to be cute or dainty. We're having a good laugh and we don't care who knows!
We celebrated three birthdays for the month of February. I know, it is very late, however, the woman in charge of work festivities felt that co-workers birthday celebrations had to be put on hold, because first, we had to celebrate Black History month.
I think the February folks thought they'd been forgotten. One commented, "Wow, I never thought I'd be celebrating my birthday in March!" We sang Happy Birthday, ate chicken and potato salad, and then had cake. One person, who monetarily contributes, still did not join us. He usually scoots off real fast lest, anyone approach him and ask him to join.

Describe the perfect friend. Someone who I can confide in and not have to worry about gossip being spread or using what's shared against me. Someone who can deal with and handle me during the sad, hard times, as well as the happy and fun ones. Someone who will respect me at all times, not only when we're alone. Someone who's honest and has integrity. Someone who can be firm, yet empathic.

What makes you laugh? Almost anything and everything. I don't take myself or life too seriously. Not one day passes without me laughing and smiling about something. I work with a woman who never smiles and only laughs at the expense of others. I cannot imagine living her life. I cannot imagine the depth of her unhappiness. I'm a very easy going, happy go lucky kind of gal!

I'm feeling slightly bummed today. My friend and co-worker Susie is out on indefinite medical leave. She has a lot of physical ailments and I'm happy she'll get to rest and hopefully, receive proper treatment. On the flipside, I'll miss her energy and our lunches together.
We were able to talk about spirituality, meditation, yoga, recipes, movies, etc. Our other friend is much more one tracked. She never has an opinion on anything non-work related and it's harder to converse with her because the subjects are so limited. If it's not work, it's family. There's more to life than that!

Who is your hero? I suppose you mean someone known to others? On that premise my hero would be Captain Kagaroo or Sheriff John. They not only kept us company weekday mornings/afternoons, they also taught us many fundamentals while making learning fun!
What's On Right Now
Happy St. Patrick's Day! Are you wearing something green?? Yikes, no. I dressed in a hurry this a.m. and thought my blouse had green in it.
What's On your agenda for St. Patrick's Day Right Now? Nothing. It will be a normal day like any other.
Wednesday Whatevers
1. What do you do to enhance your looks? Maintain good hygiene, dress neatly and cleanly.
2. Why do people rape other people? Psychologists say it's an act of power and control, rather than sexual.
3. If clothing were optional would you still wear it? Uh, yeah! LOL

TV Tuesday
In honor of the TV Land Awards going on Wednesday evening, this week's questions will be about "Classic" TV shows! (Any show counts, as long as they are not still making new episodes.)
1. What is your favorite "Classic" TV show? Ooooh, there are so many, I could break them down by era! I would say The Partridge Family. Yeah, go ahead and laugh. You know you watched and secretly enjoyed it.
2. What character from a "Classic" TV show would you like to be? Marcia Brady from the Brady Bunch.
3. On which "Classic" TV Show would you have loved to have a walk-on role? The Partridge Family. Oh, to have met Keith back in the day!
~Bonus~ Can you remember a line you liked from a "Classic" TV show? "You know, life doesn't always have to be so hard, son. Sometimes, we make it that way." Said to Greg Brady by his dad.
Random Questions; Random Days...
I remember as a child I used to think 30 was old. Well, now that I'm 47, I don't even think 50 is old! How old is old anyway? Funny you should ask, I was just discussing this very thing last week. The consensus among the group I was with is 80 and above is old. We think 70 is still young. You're a senior citizen, sure, but you're not yet old.
Tuesday Iffer
Sing Out Loud, Sing Out Strong...
If you could perform a duet with any singer you wanted on national TV, whom would you pick and what would you sing? Easy question....Elton John and we'd sing "Saturday Night".
Tuesday Twosome
Spring is finally here!
1. What two things you enjoy about Spring? Flowers blooming and the birds singing.
2. What two things are you going to miss about Winter? My favorite candle fragrance Pomegranate and hot cocoa.
3. Spring Cleaning: "Of course, I get to clean out my house." or "Nope. What's the point? It's going to get dirty again anyway." I vacillate between the two. It's best to clean, though.
4. Spring Flowers: "Tulips and all flowers are blooming. I love this time of the year!" or "Allergy season is kickin' in. Pollen! Enough already." See answer one and you know it's the former. I love spring, most especially summer!
5. Spring weather in your area means: "Outside activities!" or "It is still freakin' cold! I am going to be inside, thank you!" Outside cafes, walking, sleeveless wear and sandals, lovely evenings and fun, fun, FUN!

It's time for dinner and tonight's meal will take about two hours to cook. We have a great grocery store named Bristol Farms nearby (I'm sure many of you are familiar with it) and their quality is exceptional. We bought a chicken to prepare for dinner and as my spouse was unwrapping him (yes, its sex has been identified), a note introduced our bird of choice as Rocky Jr..
Is Rocky Jr.'s identification supposed to make us feel warm and fuzzy about him, so that we no longer desire to eat him? I mean, either way, he's dead already, right? What difference does it make if we consume him or someone else? I just found it ironic and funny that my chicken has a name. Does yours???

Monday Madness
1. What is your solution for cabin fever - you know that feeling of being penned in the house all winter? I get out and really notice how winter differs from the other seasons. The way the light shines and the shadows fall, etc.
2. Who are the people in your neighbourhood...in your neighbourhood, in your neighbourhood.....? Most are average age of mid - forties to early fifties. They're active and employed. Those with children, have children in their teens. And here's the clincher, the average household has three cars, which creates a parking problem since most of the houses were built in the 1920 - 1930's and didn't anticipate a need for large driveways and garages.
3. What's the best thing about spring? The warmth, flowers are in bloom, the birds return and sing, people start leaving their houses and strolling the neighborhood.
4. Any Easter traditions? We color and hide Easter eggs.
5. How old were you believing in the Easter bunny? Um, I think until six. I believed in Santa Claus a lot longer. LOL

saturday-8 :: culture
Sometimes we fail to recognize how our own lives are effected by the culture that surrounds us. Several aspects of our lives are effected by our culture and so this week's questions will explore that. Some refer to parents and other family members. If they do not apply to you specifically, then answer them in terms of who were most responsible for your upbringing.
1. Do you have a specific and unique rule that you or your family follow at the dinner table? We wait until all parties are seated befoe eating. It's always unsettling when I dine at someone's home and the minute the food hits the table, everyone's reaching and digging in!
2. What is a specific activity, behavior or tradition that occurs in your family during certain holidays or birthdays? Everyone's birthday is celebrated individually. We don't aggregate all the birthdays in one month and have just the one celebration. In my family, each persons special day is treated like it's special.
3. How do the various members of your family greet each other? What about extended family such as cousins, aunts or uncles? We hug and kiss on the cheek. Especially children, they're usually first to be acknowledged.
4. How do you or your family treat visitors to your house? Are there different treatments for different visitors? If they're friends that the family knows, they're hugged. If not, they're enthusiastically greeted and spoken to. They're not left alone, either. The family tries to make them feel welcomed and inclusive.
5. What foods are special or unique to your family? Capirotada (a Mexican bread pudding), champurado (Mexican creamy hot chocolate drink), homemade banana cake, and jamming macaroni and potato salads.
6. What names do you use to call your grandparents or other older relatives? For grandmother grandma, for great grandmother nana.
7. What values have you learned from your parents? A strong work ethic, appropriate speach, good manners, self respect and dignity and allowing others to maintain and keep theirs.
8. From what countries have your ancestors immigrated? Mexico.
Culture plays a big part in all of our lives. We may have values the same or different than our grandparents, we may have a key word or phrase with special meaning to just our family, we may have a family of certain professions and there are ranges of topics we can and cannot discuss with our family, all of which is culturally driven. I hope you enjoyed thinking about and answering these.

Success!!! Doing the Happy Dance
Yes, I have finally recovered/salvaged all 257 photos from my 512 meg CF card! I phoned LC Technology's tech support this morning - sorry, no toll free number; it was a long distance call - and was assisted by a very nice, patient and knowledgeable tech. I explained how the demo version listed 247 photos found, but the paid version repeatedly recovered the same 50 photos and would shut itself down after 30 minutes or so of operation.
He walked me through, talked to me about my configuration and had me check the creation date of my photo recovery software for digital media, it's here where he determined that I was using an old version of their software. He emailed me a patch and voila! my photos were recovered in 40 minutes flat. I was elated!
Photo recovery software should be in every digital photo enthusiast's arsenal. It should be part of your software utility pack. Right alongside your virus, spyware and hard drive utility software. Photo Recovery for Digital Media has a clean, uncluttered and easy to use interface and one does not need to be an expert to use it.
There's a free demo at their website that will scan your card and list all the photos it found. The demo will not recover any images. You must purchase the software and I can honestly say that this is the best $40.00 I've spent. It's worth the price and I'm prepared if another compact flash card becomes corrupted!

Thursday Threesome
"A good film is when the price of the dinner, the theatre admission and the babysitter were worth it."
~ Alfred Hitchcock
Onesome- The dinner: What's your favourite meal? Is it something you get out or can you get it at home? I love Italian food and the one place where I can find a delicious chicken parmegiana is at Luigi's. I definitely have to go out for that. I can't do it justice! LOL
Twosome- the theatre Admission: What's your favourite movie and/or play and why? It'll have to be the Godfather. It had a wonderful cast, director, and the cinematography was excellent. The movie had drama, romance, suspense and action rolled into one, not to mention an excellent story.
Threesome- and the babysitter: We've all been left with a babysitter at one point or another. Did you have a favourite childhood babysitter? What made that person special? Her name was Juanita and she was a woman in her 50s. Back then, she looked much older and carried herself more like a senior citizen. She was wonderful to me. I loved her like a grandmother. She spoke Spanish and I only spoke English, somehow, we communicated and understood each other.

Quite by accident, I tried my experiment of riding the light rail train without wearing ear buds or otherwise occupying my time. No one spoke to me, however, I was more aware of my surroundings, tended not to daydream, and found the ride more enjoyable.
I traveled the same route as yesterday and upon disembarking in South Pasadena, treated myself to an ice cream cone of rocky road at Buster's Coffeehouse. It was another gorgeous day and I had a great time. It's been spring-like weather all week and I've been taking advantage of it. Come on weather, heat up a lot more! LOL
I need to work on my awkwardness and apprehension about photographing interiors of businesses or people in public spaces. While at Buster's Coffeehouse, I saw many interesting and unique artwork and photos that created the funky ambience of the coffeehouse. Most everything is used or well lived in, unlike Starbucks where it wreaks of money for new furniture and overstuffed chairs. I would like to have snapped photos and yes, my trusty camera was with me.
What's on Right now
What's On the back seat of your car Right Now? (If you don't own a car, what's on the back seat of someone else's car?) Have a great week, everyone! and thanks for playing! Old issues of People magazine. I intend to give them to my mom for leisure reading, but always forget! You'd think I'd remember since it is the sole item on the seat.
Wednesday Whatevers
1. What is the most useless thing ever invented? Cigarettes. They serve no healthy purpose and contribute to hundreds of premature deaths annually.
2. Press CTRL+V and we'll see what interesting thing comes up. The paste command pasted text about photo recovery tips. Yeah, I'm still trying to salvage my images. The software arrived two weeks ago and it's partially working. So far, 100 of the 247 images have been recovered.
The software automatically shuts down/quits after 20 - 30 minutes of operation. Yes, I've been working at this bloody thing for so long, I've had the opportunity to time it. Is this pathetic or what? However, I have the tenacity to stick to this until I achieve results!
The tech support office is open M - F 9 a.m. - 6 p.m Eastern and there's no toll free number. Well, with the overtime I've been working and living on the west coast, they're never open when I can phone. I surely can't make a long distance from work! Since I'm off this Friday, guess who I'm calling?
3. What do you think society will achieve before your death? I think it's more likely we'll be able to clone humans than have a cure for AIDS, cancer, Alzheimers, or end hunger.

How much spam mail do you get per day in your email box? How does that compare to the junk mail in your snail mail box? Well, I receive 200 plus emails daily and of this amount, 30 - 40 emails belong to me. All the rest is spam and it's trip the amount of my snail junk mail!

On a somber note, today marks the 25th anniversary of my sister Alice's death. She died from complications due to brain cancer. I miss her terribly and not a day passes without her in my thoughts. So many moments lost. Lives forever changed and affected. I miss you, Alice and I love you very much. May you be free of pain and at peace.

I've been working overtime and needed to get away from the office and the physical building. I took a ride on the light rail train to South Pasadena. I was so close to home yet, so far! I didn't want to go back to downtown L.A., but I knew I had to.
As I Sat on the train, I was struck by how disconnected all the passengers were from each other. We'd might as well be riding in our individual bubbles, lest anyone speak to or touch another. Many passengers, like me, had ear buds thereby, sounding the warning to all who might dare, "Don't speak to me. I'm absorbed in my own world." I'm gonna have to give this more thought and intentionally leave the ear buds at the office on the next excursion. It will be interesting to see if I'm approached
I returned to the office feeling a little sad about not interacting with anyone and thought of the irony: hundreds of people chat online for hours with complete strangers, not knowing if the person they're investing time in is honestly portraying himself. Yet, in real life, we don't give each other the time of day. I felt refreshed and ready to work and I was so happy to get outdoors and the feel the heat for awhile. Back in my icebox, I donned my sweater and settled in.

Please comment on the following quote: "Don't find fault, find a remedy." ~ Henry Ford
I think this is a wonderful quote/philosophy to live by. Too often people eagerly point out what's wrong/bad, but rarely do they have a solution or constructive cristicism. Everyone can point out the flaws/problems/imperfections, that's the easy part. How easy is it for you to fix what you're talking about????? Not your problem, you say. I ask, "are you part of the problem or the solution??"

The Tuesday Iffers
I Hope You Dance...
If you had only 24 hours to live, what would you do? I'd spend it with my loved ones and let them know how much I love them and that I want our final day to be a happy one. Let's have fun!
Tuesday Twosome
Since the last few memes were quite serious, we will now have silliness...
1. Do you put both your socks on then your shoes or do you put on a sock, then shoe, then go to other leg and put on a sock then shoe? Boy, these are questions I haven't given much thought about. I put both socks on then my shoes.
2. When you button your shirt/blouse, do you start at the bottom buttons or start from the top? Start from the top or 90% of the time, unbotton the top most buttons and slip the blouse over my head!
3. Do you put your deodorant on before or after you put your clothes on? Eeoow, before, Otherwise, the blouse wrinkles even more.
4. Do you floss before or after you brush your teeth? After, to ensure no food particles are left.
5. You are out to eat and spill sauce on your light-colored shirt/blouse, do you try to get it out and just decide to let it be, or do you go and buy a new shirt/blouse because it is too embarrassing? Try to get the stain out and let it be.

Well, it's a gorgeous day in southern California and I think folks will be bbqing very soon. The birds and bees have arrived in the trees in my backyard. The bees know it's time to pollinate the flowers and the birds are just singing their little hearts out! My neighbor's concerned about the number of bees buzzing and pollinating, but I'm not concerned about them. They're pretty much in a corner of the yard and I feel that they won't bother me. Hard as I've tried, I can't tell if there's a beehive in the tree. There must be at least a 100 of them buzzing about!
Now hold on, those of you in colder climates don't think it unfair for us to have such fabulous weather. We've earned it! We've had rain, off and on, for at least two days last week. And before that, we had rain three days! We're ready for spring and the trees and flowers in bloom have announced her arrival. We've had our share of cold, dreary, wet days. It's time to move forward and onward and it's not our fault if we're the vanguard!
Daily Dirt
So fresh and so clean
1. Do you shower daily/ weekly? Weekly....eeow! Absolutely, daily.
2. How many times? Once per day, usually. Sometimes twice.
3. What shampoo do you use? A variety. When my hair starts getting too oily or too dry, I switch.
4. How much does it cost? All depends and which I'm using.
5. Are bubble baths better than a quick shower? I am not a 'bath' type person. Showers are the way for me.

Sunday Brunch
I Don't Wanna Grow Up
1. Do you watch cartoons? Ummm, sometimes....my favorite's Sponge Bob. Next would be old school toons like the Jetsons, Yogi Bear, and Speed Racer.
2. Ever buy a box of cereal (for yourself) just for the prize inside? Uh, perhaps....I wanted the Tony Tiger bobble head in a Frosted Flakes box. But, Frosted Flakes is my favorite cereal anyway so, I don't think it truly counts! LOL
3. Do you ever go to the playground to play on the swings, slide or teeter totter? Well, if I happen to be at a park and the swings are unattended or there's a vacant one, sure I'll hop on! Why waste a perfectly good swing?
4. Do you occasionally pout, throw tantrums or cry to get what you want? No, that I don't do. It takes more energy and time to do that, than to gain perspective.
5. How long has it been since you've done childlike (for example: ride a bike, play marbles, jump rope, build a sand castle)? One day. Should I be embarrassed? I'm not.

saturday-8 :: birthdays
my friends are coming into town today, and it's one of their birthdays in a few days. so, to honor her, this weeks' sat-8 is all about celebrating.
1. where were you born? I'm a native Californian, quite a rarity!
2. i was born at 4:05am. do you know your exact birth time? Um, no. I don't even know where my birth certificate is, so I can't check!
3. what's your sign, baby? I'm an Aries all the way.
4. what was the most memorable birthday party you've every had ... either as a child, or as an adult? As a child, it was my seventh birthday. I have two aunts - sisters - that have not spoken a word to each other in 37 years, that I know of. Every birthday was an ordeal: do you invite aunt A knowing that aunt B will not attend or vise versa? Do you not invite either of them to make it fair?
One year my mom invited both of them and mentioned to the one that it made me sad that I couldn't see both aunts on my birthday. Aunt A arrived bright and early. She was always on time and expected parties to zippity zip right on shedule. Aunt A left early and about forty five minutes later, Aunt B showed up. I was ecstatic! I got to see both my aunts on my birthday.
5. what was the worst gift you ever received for your birthday? Hmmmm, I can't think of one. Not a one.
6. what was the best gift you ever received for your birthday? Same thing. I can't think of one item that's the best.
7. if you could plan your 'perfect birthday,' what would it include, where would you go, what gifts would you get, and who would be there? I'd like for all my loved ones to join me on a trip to San Francisco. We'd spend a solid four days there sight seeing and dining at some of San Francisco's best restaurants.
Everyone would be healthy and well and able to get around with ease and free of pain. Money for enjoyment would not be an issue and we'd be free of heavy loads or burdens. We'd just truly enjoy ourselves and have a fantastic time. I don't know about gifts - such an occasion would be my gift.
8. are you doing anything interesting this weekend? if so, tell us about it. if not, what would you LIKE to be doing that is exciting? We're celebrating my mom's 78th birthday and I think that's just wonderful. May God grant all my loved ones and me a long, healthy, peaceful and happy life!
