Woo-hoo, it's my Friday. No work tomorrow or Monday - I'm on vacation days. We had planned to go to Frisco, but that was put on hold. If the weather's warm and nice, we'll drive up to Solvang on Friday. If not, we'll hang around home, maybe consider going to Disneyland or the mountains.

It's been a sad week work-wise. We've received word about another 15 positions being abolished and two more positions in administration. Our CEO had warned that layoffs were imminent, but no one believed they would commence this swiftly.

Our company's history has always been that layoffs ensue within two to three months AFTER they're announced. This round has caught many by surprise because they're swift and very concentrated. Some small departments are almost decimated.

I feel bad for those losing their jobs and equally sad for those remaining. They'll be expected to do double or triple the work in the same amount of time. Also, there's nothing like around your workspace and seeing empty cubicles where once a friend/co-worker occupied.
