Take Me Back Tuesday
It's all about MTV!
Who are the first Mtv VJs that you can remember? Martha Quinn, Adam Curry and Nina Blackwood. Curry is now into podcasting and has a good show.
Name 3 tv shows that aired on Mtv. (were any of them actually music related?) Darn, I'm so bad with titles....there was one where the host would approach total strangers on college campuses (mostly) and ask them to perform some dumb/sick feat for: $50, no - not enough....okay, $100, still no bite....$150. And the person would do it. Some kids would do it right away for a mere $50 and the spectators would be cringing, making faces and saying, "No way, dude!" The other show's where several kids lived in one house and we'd witness their antics and drama. And of course, how can I forget Punked!
What bands do you think would be nothing without Mtv? Duran Duran (one of the first bands to really embrace the emerging technology), Michael Jackson's Thriller put him over the top, Madonna became a household name both fans and parents recognized because of her videos, The Police made their trio known and, last but not least, Culture Club.
Bonus:
What is your favorite music video? Hands down Michael Jackson's Thriller. What I'd give to find it on DVD. I never bought the VHS version, either. :-( Of course, Duran Duran's Hungry Like a Wolf was total eye candy and awesome!
There's an idea, bands should issue a video compilation of their music videos. Can you imagine Duran Duran's? If this has been done, please, enlighten me.
