Defragging
Damn, I'm sure glad my notebook HD is only 20 gigs. It took 3 - 1/2 hours to defrag in safe mode. Safe mode is the most basic mode you can operate a PC in. There are no drivers or resident programs running, so conceivably, it should operate faster and more efficiently. Let me tell you, when I can clean the entire house in the time it takes to defrag, that is very sad!! LOL
Several times I stopped what I was doing to check the computer's screen. I was positive it had stopped defragging and expected to see the blue screen of death. Instead, I found the familiar defrag status bar slowing snaking its way from left to right to completion. When I started the sun was shining, when it finished it was dark!
Now I remember why I don't defrag as often. It is said that every two years (preferrably annually), one should do a complete reinstall of the Windows OS. It slows down with time and becomes increasingly unstable. I'm at the point where I feel I need to do this, but oh, how I dread it. Looks like I'll be spending this weekend cleaning the computer's files in preparation. Ahhh, spring cleaning!
Imagine how wonderful it will be and how I'll feel if everything ends up working as it should. I will be pleasantly surprised and ecstatic. On the other hand, if the computer's not operating after reinstalling, I'm going to be a wreck. Stay tuned.
