I live in Southern California and live the digital lifestyle. I love technology, engage in social networks and thanks to the Amazon Kindle enjoy reading again. I listen to many podcasts and am interested in the paranormal. I don't go ghost hunting or anything like that, but I love reading, viewing and listening to a great fright!

Decisions
This evening was Syl's viewing and rosary and tomorrow afternoon her interment. The service was well attended, with three displays of photos chronicling Syl's life. As always, she was smiling and/or laughing and having a good time. It was a wonderful encapsulation of her life and the joy she brought to those fortunate enough to know her.
Syl's family was holding up well and my thoughts gravitated to her mother. After tomorrow, she would be alone in a very still house. How would she cope with her enormous loss and the reality. She hasn't had time to let it set in. Arrangements have had to be made, displays completed, food purchased, etc. I found myself praying for Syl's mom and hoping for as smooth a transition as possible.
As often happens in life, we've had to decide what to do about commitments previously made. We'd planned a turnaround bus trip to stateline for tomorrow. My sister and niece are joining us and they don't really know anyone on the bus. They've met our neighbors only once before, but that's it. So my spouse and I were at a quandary what to do? We've decided to attend the turnaround and proceed with our plans.
It's not because we've paid the money and don't want to lose it. That's the least of our concerns. However, it wouldn't be fair or right to leave my sister and niece on a trip, where they don't know anyone. Or, worse yet, expect them to also cancel. Also, our neighbors have been looking forward to it and we couldn't let them down. So, we've attended the evening's services, paid our respects to Syl and her family and will always keep her memory fresh. Come Saturday morning, we'll be on the bus as expected.

Sad News
This morning I received very sad news about the passing of a friend's sister. Syl had been battling breast cancer, which spread to other parts of her body, for three plus years. She demonstrated a will to live that I saw matched by sister Alice's. Syl, like Alice, showed enormous strength, courage and determination and I admired that so much. I don't know that I would have the ability they did. I honestly don't.
Sadly, Syl's battled has ended, however, she's entered a new journey with our Creator. She is no longer suffering and in pain. She's free of the prison that was her physical body and I'm very happy for her and her family. Her family has also suffered seeing Syl as she was and being unable to cure or remove her pain.
So to S.T. I say:
You were loved.
You were appreciated.
You brightened and touched many lives.
You are missed and God bless you.

Billboard Advertising
All's been going well this week as far as there being no attempted rapes. There have been no arrests and no more sightings, but the increased vigilance and patrolling is welcomed. Seems like everywhere I drive there's construction: Construction of buildings, new underground piping, road maintenance (hopefully, less potholes!), new island/road easements, etc. I allow extra time anticipating delays and imagine that it's like this everywhere.
Since my speed has slowed to a crawl, I've seized the opportunity to notice the environment. I'm sure you've all heard/read about various neighborhood organizations/groups demanding changes in billboard advertising. Many believe themselves to be unfairly targeted by alcohol advertisers because of their economic status and ethnicity. So along my drive I made it a point to count and look for alcohol related ads.
These two billboards were viewed seven times in a three mile stretch of north east Los Angeles. So you tell me, is it excessive advertising?

Wednesday Whatevers
1. Culturally, what defines a person's gender? Ignorance and fear of change keep us locked into specific roles and acceptable behavior. I see more men willing to try being the stay at home dad and letting the wife work.
2. Does your mood define what you do, or does what you do define your
mood? Both, actually. If I'm doing an unpleasant task, it will affect my mood.
3. When making lists, do you prefer numbers or bullets? Bullets, but people prefer to read/view numbers.
*Clarification for #1: Biologically, a person's gender is defined by what reproduction organs they have. So what defines it culturally?

Tuesday Twosome
Carnival Time:
1. Cotton Candy or Caramel Apples: I am so glad you chose caramel apples as the option. I don't do red candied apples.
2. Turkey Legs or Corn Dogs: Corn dogs
3. Lemonade or Iced Tea: Lemonade, especially if it's from the Hot Dog on a Stick peeps.
4. Carnival Games or Rides: Carnival games. The rides look too unsafe to me.
5. Fun House or House of Mirrors: House of mirrors.

Update
I've been busy lately but wanted to update that the rapist at my job site, struck again on Thursday afternoon at 2:15 p.m. This time the victim fought back and escaped, resulting in a global e-mail alert, circulation of a composite sketch, and more visible security. Tension is rising and the vigilance is evident. We're all hopeful that the rapist is caught or leaves town. It's terrible to work under such stress.
On another note, has anyone caught USA Network's 4400 TV series? I barely watched the two hour premiere and am now two weeks behind. It reminds me a little of the X-Files, though, less creepy and suspenseful. I liked the premiere and plan on adding this series to my weekly viewing list. Also, the long awaited return of Dead Like Me premiered last night. Yea, I've been waiting and wonder if anyone else is a Herbig fan?? Oh why can't I work at Happy Time?!

Monday Mambo
So lets get ourselves warmed up and dance, shall we, with a little "I say...You think..."
Magazine: Star/US
Photo: Blogs
Concert: Music
Video: taping favorite shows
Pass: Under
Ticket: Entertainment
Line: Anticipation
Excitement: Lights! Action!
Are you warmed up yet? That's good, cos the Mambo Guy is getting impatient. He wants to get his mambo going on. So let's get started.
1. If you had backstages passes to the show of your choosing, who would it be, and what would you do once you were backstage? (Try to be clean.) It would be for Elton John or Madonna and I'd take lots of behind-the-scene photos and talk to the crew, assistants and star.
2. What entertainment magazines do you read? US, People, Star and Entertainment.
3. Do you read concert/album reviews in your local newspaper? And if so, do you let the review sway your opinion on the band/album? No. I read the reviews after I've seen the concert/performance. I want my mind to be open and free!
4. Create your dream concert lineup. (a sort of Lollapalooza event of your making) Elton John, Madonna, Steppenwolf, CCR, No Doubt, Tina Turner, Phil Collins, Prince, Enya, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Sting, Sade, Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Joe Cocker.
5. If you could have attended any festival show at any time...From Woodstock on...which one would it have been, and why? It would have been Woodstock because of the fantastic line up: Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Joe Cocker, etc.

South Pasadena Farmer's Market
Local public radio station KPFK, always has an informational display booth at the entrance to the farmer's market. They're not confrontative in any way and everyone is free to approach the table and discuss the issues. I appreciate their presence and the fact that they're not brash.

Friday Feast
Appetizer Name something you've done that made you feel guilty.
The gals and I went out for lunch and a co-worker, notorius for always wanting others to bring her something back but never offers to reciprocate, wasn't invited.
Soup If you could get rid of one piece of furniture in your house, what would it be, and what would you put in its place?
I would replace the coffee table with a sofa table.
Salad Imagine you've won a contest to be a featured guest on any television sitcom or drama show. On which one would you want to be a guest star?
Oooh, Six Feet Under, I'd be the opening, the one that dies!
Main Course Create a cereal. Tell us what you'd name it and what ingredients would be included?
Honey oats and flakes with raisins!
Dessert Describe the most memorable night of your life so far.
That would be our first evening together in our first apartment. We didn't have many material posessions, but we had our love and each other and that was all I needed!

Must be Summer
Most folks are on vacation at the office and it's quiet and slow - orderwise. It's actually rather nice and relaxing. The frenetic pace has dissipated a lot and it leaves more water cooler time for catching up with each other. Ever noticed how sometimes these can get so busy that someone's not missed until after they've been gone one week? It gets like that a lot at the office, so it's nice when there's time to check in with each other.
Since the sexual assault in the parking lot, building security and the sheriffs department are now assisting with all requests for escort to one's car. Prior to this horrible incident, you couldn't get security, let alone a sheriff, to escort you for any reason.
Requests for escort have been numerous and, since the sheriffs already used the Segway Human Transporter, now they're loaning them to the building security to facilitate partrol and escort. One guard told me he spent the last four hours of his shift escorting women to their cars. Many were too uncomfortable and afraid even in groups.
I was using the stairs to traverse floors and exercise. Now, I don't use them anymore. Many other women I used to see on occasion are no longer using the stairwells either. It's a pathetic existence and reality that was highlighted this afternoon, when word spread that a sheriff thought he'd spotted the accused rapist, but lost him in the crowd. Once again we were on alert and encouraged to remain in our respective office spaces until the search had been concluded.

Mid week Music Theme
Trip down memory lane
I’m old enough to remember when records and 8-tracks were the choice you had in purchasing music for home (or auto) consumption. Not only that, but record players played LP’s and 45’s - and some even played 78’s, although I don’t think I’ve ever actually seen one of those outside of an antique shop. Cassette tapes were just beginning to come into their own when I started acquiring much of a music collection. I explained this all to my 11-year-old recently and she seemed astonished that music ever came on anything other than CDs and the computer. Damn, that made me feel old.
What was the first piece of music you bought with your very own money, and what format was it in?
I bought a Leif Garrett LP with my birthday money when I was 8 years old and thought he was the cutest thing ever. (My taste in both music and men has, thankfully, improved greatly over the decades.)
It was a single - a 45 (remember the concept of buying a single for 79 cents!), instead of wasting money having to buy the entire LP or CD? It was Eric Clapton's Layla. I had two sisters, much older than I, and they would buy all kinds of music, so I didn't need to start spending my own money until I was 11 years old or so. Once I started, though, there was no stopping me!
I have a lot 45s that I haven't even considered putting on eBay. Don't even know if there's a market for them. I had 8 tracks, but don't know where they got off to! Of course, lots of LPs and and extended play LP sized Disco/Dance remixes. Oh yeah, I have many homemade cassettes, because even back in the day, I wanted my music my way! LOL

Reading
I've been feeling very pleased with myself because not only did I finish reading a novel the weekend of July 12th, but I'm in the middle of another novel! It looks like my dry spell has ended. I can focus and concentrate on what I'm reading and I'm enjoying it a lot. It's really quite relaxing and I try to read a chapter each evening. However, if I don't/can't, then I don't worry about it. I simple make sure to do some reading during the week.
It's great to rediscover pleasure in a previous past time. I once was a voracious reader and belonged to several book clubs. I was never without a book and preferred reading to TV viewing. Reading a book allows my imagination to create the scenes described on the page. It's magical and fun. Reading is also quite educational; I expand my vocabulary while being entertained.
I'm going to consider checking books out from the library. It's not simply the expense, it's also the space. Once read books need someplace to be stored and they're awfully heavy to move! I learned that lesson a long time ago. It's no fun packing and moving boxes of books! Unless I can buy used paperbacks for very cheap, this way I won't mind giving/throwing them away once read, I'll consider the library or borrowing from co-workers.

Scary News
I received some very alarming information at work yesterday. I was off last Friday so, I was "out of the loop". A security guard told my partner in crime, that a woman was raped in the company's underground parking lot on Friday at 11:00 a.m. I can't explain exactly how I felt, only that I could identify fear, worry and a sense of loss that I no longer felt safe.
We've been at our present location for ten years and we've never had anything like this occur. I sometimes nap in my car during lunch, I will not be doing so anymore. Just last Tuesday I found a parking space in a location with no light and marveled at my find. I thought it the perfect spot for napping. I remembered my find this morning and thanked God for keeping me safe. I was very tired and sleepy during lunch today but I dared not sleep.

Ten Things You Wish You Knew When You Were Younger
1. Youth is fleeting, so enjoy it!
2. There's nothing like being a child and teenager free of financial responsibility.
3. Celebrate and cherish all the family gatherings and time together. There may not be a next year for some memebers.
4. Live in the moment, it's all we have. Tomorrow's not guaranteed.
5. Material things come and go. Don't hang on so tight.
6. It's good to be me! I don't have to fit in.
7. Learn all you can while it comes easily.
8. Being in love can be wonderful!
9. Be your own person and befriend those you wish to.
10. Learn to play and laugh daily. You're never too old!

Problems with...
1. A co-worker: Ignore it or confront him/her: It depends: If it's someone I know to be normally reasonable then I'll approach them. If not, I'll ignore them. You can reason with the ignorant or fanatics!
2. A retail purchase: Go back to store and try to fix it or It just isn't worth going back: Go back to the store. I took the time to shop for the item I wanted.
3. Customer Service over the phone: Accept it and move on or ask for name and then request to speak to the supervisor: Definitely ask for name (if I don't already have it!) and ask for a supervisor.
4. Your health: Ignore it because the less you know the less you have to worry or call for an appointment immediately: It depends: if I'm in pain I make an appointment immediately. However, if it's just a nagging annoyance, ah, ignore it. It'll go away!
5. Electronic equipment: "Good thing I bought the warranty" or "Crap, what do I do now?": Crap, what to do now. I believe warranties are a waste of money. Most electronic equipment will fail in ther first 60 days and most warranties are for at least one year.

Monday Madness
1. Do you prefer to be out in the sun or in the shade? In the sun having fun! I don't allow myself to burn or anything, though. I'm not looking to get skin cancer.
2. Regarding the walls in your house, do you prefer neutral colors or bright colors? Neutral because it's easier to decorate and coordinate with.
3. When hanging pictures on your walls, do you like things symmetric or asymmetric? Asymmetric because it's more visually stimulating.
4. How about where you'd like to live; country or city? City, but I can do country if I'm no more than one hour from the city.
5. Your blog; Blogger, Blogdrive, Blog-City, or another one altogether? Blogger, although, many bloggers are leaving because Blogger's been hiccuping. I hope they'll hang in there. They're making many good enhancements, worthy of our patience and support.
6. Email; Yahoo, Hotmail, Gmail, or other? All of the above and POP3, too.
7. Air conditioning or just a fan when it's hot at night? Simple is better, just a fan. Now there are fans and then there's my nieces turbo fan. When it's on and you speak to her over the phone, it sounds like she's LAX on the tarmac!
8. Dinner; seafood or steak? Steak all the way. I don't like seafood much. Too stinky.
9. Your all-time favorite music media; CD's, cassette tapes, or vinyl (or 8-tracks)? CDs but hanging onto the vinyl. There's still too much music that hasn't been lasered.
10. When learning a new software program, do you find it easier to follow a book or an online tutorial? Neither, I learn by hit and miss and practice, practice, practice!

Daily Dirt
Black Roots…
1. What is it about your culture that you despise? Despise is too strong and negative a word. I prefer, dislike. I dislike that we're not politically involved and outspoken. We need to speak up and make our voice heard!
2. What about it do you like the most? We're very proud, family focused and take pride in our culture and language.
3. Is it a well known culture? Yes.
4. Ever wish you can trade place with a person of a different culture? When I was younger sure. Now, I wouldn't change a thing!
5. Are you gonna pass the culture down to your children? I have none and no plans of having any so, no.

Monday Music Mambo
This week it's all about "New Music!" So why don't we get warmed up with a little bit of "I say...You think..."
Release: date
Tuesday: follies
Sounds: too good
Disc: CDR
Radio: Shack
Store: DVDs
Tape: scotch
Mix: DJ
Ok, now that we are all warmed up, are you ready to Mambo? If you are, come on and shake your groove thang!
1. What's your favorite way to discover new music? Legal MP3 downloads offered by indie artists.
2. Do videos influence whether or not you buy a cd? No. It's the music. I don't care how good looking a video is, if I don't like the overall sound, I'm not buying it.
3. What was the last CD you purchased? Black Eyed Peas' 'Elephunk'.
4. Tell us about a band you recently discovered. DJ Synch and his great techno mixes. He's good and gaining popularity. Let's hope the originality lasts after he's "made it". Look at what happened to Moby.
5. And lastly...answer the musical question: Did Video Kill The Radio Star? No, look what video did for Duran Duran. You all remember them, don't you!? LOL

Mac Tonight!
Leave it to my comadre to know the correct answer. When it comes to pop culture or trivia, don't challenge Ceci, she'll put you in your place faster than anyone. LOL I am so thrilled to finally have the answer. I can now stop dreaming about it and searching my subconscious!
Okay, is anyone else up for the challenge of identifying the other less obvious characters? Like, who's the guy to the right of Ronald, the guy to the left of Mac Tonight, the girl to the left of Ronald and the blue blob at the end of the table? The artist should have identified them for pop culture-challenged folk like me!
Ceci, being the thorough person that she is, even corroborated her answer by searching the Net and emailing me the following description found on eBay:
Mac Tonight embodied McDonald's attempt to attract adult patrons to their restaurants after the kids had gone to bed, and to advertise their new late-night hours. Mac's favorite music was jazz, and on his moon-shaped face he sported cool dark sunglasses. He was occasionally spotted riding his jet-ski, flying his plane over McDonaldland, or driving his convertible to his favorite late-night hang-out under the Golden Arches.
Here, Mac Tonight is represented as a seven-inch, soft rubber puppet -- just his moon-shaped head and cool shades!
My thanks and kudos to Ceci - you're da bomb, girl!

This cool customer only came out at night. Wearing a formal tuxedo with a big red bowtie, he'd stand in the starlight and sing McDonald's praises.

Sunday Brunch
It's All About Me
1. Do you or should you wear glasses or contact lenses? I wear glasses. I've tried contacts and they're okay, they just weren't for me.
2. What is your favorite type of footwear? Birki's all the way, any style, doesn't matter!
3. What is your worst habit? Nail biting.
4. Are you an average, so-so or very good cook? Uh, so-so cook. And on some things, not good at all.
5. Do you spend more time watching television, listening to music or surfing the internet? Hard one, probably listening to music. I do the other two as well so, it's a difficult call really.

RE: Blogs
1. Show off your multi-tasking talents! What do you/can you do while you blog at the same time? I can listen to the TV or music, drink tea, coffee or chocolate milk and blog at the same time. Since I'm on dial up and some things are slow, I can also toggle windows and read/send emails or prepare photos. I know, I need broadband, but I'm honestly not online enough to quantify the expense.
2. It’s late. I’m not sleeping. I’m resisting the munchies. Do you have a favorite blog food? You know - the one food, in general, that you bring with you as you plop in front of the computer with intentions to blog? It's either tea, coffee or chocolate milk. Um, sometimes peanuts!
3. Unique finds? Funny posts? Thought provoking writes? Ire inducing rants? List ‘em!
James Plasencia's Musician's blog about the challenges of being an indie artist. It's stark and a good read.
I also like John Scalzi's Whatever blog where he tackles many issues, including Gay Marriage, and eloquently states his point.
I enjoy reading Gawker for the pure gossip! It's the online version of Star or the Enquirer. Sometimes I necessitate pure fluff and trash!

White Rabbit
There's no particular reason for this title other than I'm listening to the Jefferson Airplane and Grace Slick singing White Rabbit. One of my all time favorite rock songs from the 60s. This song is timeless and sounds as sharp today as it did back then. Some music is so dated that if it's out of its era, one doesn't want to listen to it!
We went to the Orange County Fair yesterday and had a great time. We bought some items...I was very good and didn't overboard...however, my spouse had to have a set of tools. What the heck, we both work so that we can enjoy and have the things we want, right? LOL I'm just glad it wasn't me. LOL When Christmas comes I'm pulling out the tally sheet!
I've posted some pics on my photo blog and hope you'll pop over and check them out. The Fast Supper art piece is a real gem. We were laughing because when we arrived, no one was viewing it. People were hurridly walking past it in search of whatever. We stopped and began identifying by name, all the characters we could. The moon guy on the right stumped us and soon another boomer approached and insisted Mr. Moon was from Jack in the Box.
I insisted that Mr. Moon was from McDonalds but couldn't remember his name. Before we knew it we had ten or so people gathered round discussing the piece and I couldn't snap my photo! So we left to check out other pieces and wait until the crowd thinned so that I could return for my photo. If anyone knows Mr. Moon's name, please leave a comment. I even dreamed about him!

FQ TOPIC: Stupidity
FQ1: Admit it, sometimes you are not the sharpest tool in the shed. What's something stupid you've done recently? (The FridayQ doesn't count!) After finding a coveted parking space in the garage (as opposed to outside in the blazing sun), I locked my keys in the car with the engine running!
FQ2: Children do idiotic things all the time because they just can't seem to help it. What's something stupid you did as a kid? I stuck my hand through a chain link fence and then couldn't extract it.
FQ3: Sometimes, being a bit of an idiot is required (or fun!). What's something stupid you will be doing in the future? Dancing and singing at the office. My cubemate B., jazzercizes in the hallway.
FQ OBSERVER: People are morons. Without naming names, what's something stupid you've seen somebody else do? C. is in charge of shipping and receiving at our company. He's always yelling at people about how not to package items.
One day, after securely taping a box that weighed 60 lbs., C. realized that he'd forgotten to place the CEO's sealed envelope in the box. The CEO's admin aide had come to explain to C. how imperative it was to include the sealed envelope.
He had to cut through his three levels of packing tape, etc. to open, then reseal the box. FedEx came and went without taking the package - it wasn't ready for primetime! Meanwhile, his co-workers encircled and taunted him. He was so mad, the blood vessels in his temple were throbbing! LOL

He had to cut through his three levels of packing tape, etc. to open, then reseal the box. FedEx came and went without taking the package - it wasn't ready for primetime! Meanwhile, his co-workers encircled and taunted him. He was so mad, the blood vessels in his temple were throbbing! LOL

3x Thursday: : Commute
1. What's the longest distance you've had to commute? Was it worth it? I never realized that the longest distance I've had to commute is in to downtown L.A., which is about 10 miles from home and a 15 - 20 minute drive. I never realized that I've always worked close to home!
2. If you have a commute, what mode of transportation do you use? What do you do during it? I drive and listen to CDs or audiotapes. Just this morning I was reminiscing as I listened to a compilation of David Bowie's songs. I had the volume pumped up as I heard Diamond Dogs, Fame, Heroes, Ashes to Ashes, Panic In Detroit and Modern Love.
3. How important is commute distance when choosing a job? It's important. I don't want to commute an hour or more, that's for sure! It also depends where the job's located. I don't want to go to a terrible area to work.
Bonus Question for Comments: What do you think of carpooling? Does it work? Why/Why not? It doesn't work for me, because I often take naps during lunch, have doctors appointments mid-day and when I'm not napping, like to go sit at the park and eat lunch.
Theater Thursday
Robots
This week sees the opening of the film adaptation of Isaac Asimov's classic "I, Robot" starring Will Smith.
1) Who or what is your favorite movie robot? How many movie robots are there, anyway? I can't think of them to make a decision!
2) Will we ever see the day where walking, talking robots truly become a part of every day life? I think the day will come but it may be the lifetime of my great-nephews. Certainly not in mine. We don't have the AI and logistics of mobility figured out so that they'll operate and function smoothly in tandem.
3) Should a robot ever be programmed to kill a human? No, but you know this is inevitable. It will fall under "preservation of human life for police officers".
BONUS) If you had a personal robot, what would you call it? What would you like it to do for you? I wouldn't want one and I would not have one in my house. We have early incarnations that Vroom vacuum and the Sony and Honda brand walking robots. I haven't the faintest interest in those things and they're only $99.00.

iSold-it Trading Assistants
Over the weekend, I stopped at my new and local iSold-it store to inquire about the specifics of their service. I've never successfully bid or sold on eBay, but have many things (as I'm sure many of you do also) to sell and offload. From the get go, I wasn't too impressed with their service.
I was "assisted" by a brash twenty something, who seemed intent on sending me on my way, rather than assuring me that I should do business with them. Every question that I managed to verbalize, received a curt response. The others, were prematurely perfunctorily answered.
Some of the things I'm not crazy about? Their is no reserve price setting. I've heard pros and cons about using this option and, for special items, I would like to be assured that it will sell for my minimum or not.
Also, they don't research what same/similar items are selling for. So, why not simply give the stuff away as I've been doing? Is anyone understanding my dilemma? I've given a lot good stuff away to women's shelters, etc. but, if I'm going to commit to these trading assistants receiving a portion of the proceeds, I'd like to know that they're committed to doing their best.
My friend brought a good point to light: "How do you know that the trading assistants' aren't under bidding an item that they know it's true value and then reselling it?" The answer is - I don't. It's up to us to get the item(s) to the store and they will post the auction, photograph the item(s) and award the auction.
I think I'm making another trip to the store and seeking someone else's assistance. When I inquired if iSold-it monitors (mea culpa, I didn't word it properly)the auc...., he quipped, "what's to monitor? It sells to the highest bidder?" NO kidding, however, some bidders have questions. Will iSold-it respond to inquiries, etc.? This is why I need to make another trip.
I'll have the agreed upon item with me in the trunk of my car. If I feel better about the process, I'll leave the item and hope for the best. If not, I'll return home with it and be prepared for my spouses admonishment to try trading assistants'. Wish me luck and if you have any experience, please share!

Tuesday Iffer
Vacation's All I Ever Wanted...
If you take some "time off", do you need to travel elsewhere to feel as if you've vacationed? I feel like I've vacationed even if I've remained at home. The break in the daily schedule (i.e. staying up late, rising late, going to the theater mid-day) makes me feel liberated! I'm happy, stress free and enjoying my freedom.
When vacationing is it necessary to have an itinerary or do you play it by ear? A little of both. I like planning some things ahead (i.e. tours of popular tourist traps), but I also like having the day free to explore unexpected finds or surprises. If it's too regimented, then I feel like I'm keeping a work schedule.

Monday, Monday!
I had a fabulous weekend and, despite the fact that I love my job, didn't want to go to work this morning. I wasn't tired or anything like that, I just enjoyed my weekend so much that I didn't want it to end. Had my mate said "I'll call in. Let's stay home." I would have willingly and eagerly obliged. But, such wasn't the case, so off to work I went.
The good thing that I located three missing boxes of very important information for a very panicked client. It's always good to give a client relief, especially when they're entrusting us with their valuable paper trail. So that was the highlight of my workday. Everyone seemed a little off today, like they didn't want to be there either. Maybe it's the gorgeous heat streak we're having. We're all fantasizing about being at the beach!

Monday Madness
Let's try some 'true or false' questions this week! Feel free to elaborate as you wish!
1. I like my job. T This is the best job I've ever had and I actually enjoy going to work!
2. I find time to 'smell the flowers' so to speak. T I learned about living one day at a time about 12 years ago and it's a lesson I've taken to heart.
3. I have no problem thinking of things to write about in my blog. F I have a lot of trouble figuring what to write. Especially when all the security focused sites admonish netizens not to divulge too much information.
4. 'Organization' is my middle name! NOT F
5. If 'Plan A' doesn't work, there's always a 'Plan B.' T I always have back up plan and disaster recovery plan! LOL
6. I adjust easily to new surroundings. Don't know. It depends on the situation: social, career, personal.
7. I'd rather work 'behind the scenes' than 'in the spotlight.' T I don't desire to be the center of attention. I don't need it. I like my privacy and anonymity.
8. I'm happy where I am, at this point in my life. T Absolutely, true. I've never been happier. Thank you, Lord.
9. I can wake up in the morning without an alarm clock. Depends. On weekends it's no problem. Weekdays require the alarm clock!
10. I can function pretty well on less than 8 hours of sleep. F I need more like 9 hours.

I hate Filing
This has to be understood or nothing I share will make sense. I awoke this morning with the idea to FILE the stacks of paper that line my desk like highway markers during construction. Why I chose today is still a mystery to me. I must have had it in the far recesses of my mind, where it rose to consciousness during sleep.
Either way, I arrived at work and began filing around 10:30 a.m. The task seemed so daunting to me, that I had to take a tea break and, where I normally would return to my desk as the water heated, I remained by the microwave standing guard. Of course, when I returned with hot measuring cup in tow, the stacks of paper simply screamed at me for attention.
By 11:30 a.m. I had numerically filed one SUB-stack in a 5" binder. Do you know how heavy a 5" binder is when it's filled? I didn't either, until much later in the day. It easily weighs 10 pounds - I'm not exaggerating. It easily weighs that much. Thank God for Chaka Khan, Earth, Wind & Fire, Various R&B and Rock artists for keeping me grooving and helping maintain my sanity.
At 12:00 p.m. I necessitated another tea break and water cooler conference. While I didn't learn anything new from my work mates, I managed to return feeling refreshed and less stressed. It's as if I have a phobia about filing. I'm not joking when I say that I perspired as I filed. LOL I'm hoping this jaunt into the abyss of filing, will give me peace to stave it off again for another six months or so.
I finished filing the majority of stacks at 2:00 p.m. and decided I'd had enough. No more fiing! I closed the day by completing searches and researching lost boxes for a very frantic client. I found two of the three missing boxes, but must wait until Monday to know if the third one's been located. I hate filing. How was your day?

Friday Feast
Appetizer
If you were a color, which color would you be, and why? Purple because it's vibrant, colorful and an action color.
Soup
When was the last time you went to the doctor, and what was your reason for going? About two weeks past because I had strep throat.
Salad
What do you collect? Hmmm, Disneyland pins. I don't collect pens, but I do confess to a pen fetish.
Main Course
What were you like in high school? Name one thing you miss and one thing you don't miss about those days. (If you're still there, imagine how you'll remember it in the future.) I was crazy and a party gal. Lot's of concerts, clubbing and cutting class. I miss the frivolity of it all. I don't miss the homework!
Dessert
Pretend you're standing in front of your home, with your back towards your home. Describe the view - what can you see? Trees? Cars? A zoo? Wal-Mart? I see trees, cars, more homes and few empty parking spaces! I see the house on the corner where my neighbor lost two dogs in one year. Both had been struck by cars while strolling. Most unfortunate for my elderly neighbor.
Neighbor & dogs
Next to him, I see the cemented front yard of my neighbor, who pulled all the grass up about ten years past. This is a boomer couple who enjoy parking on what used to be their front lawn. They have a very nice garage but never use it or their driveway leading to the backyard.
Boomer couple
Next to them are condominiums with several residents. These folks amaze me; without fail, about every three months they discard mattresses - three or so at a time. They just toss them on the curb and assume they'll be hauled by the waste company. Thankfully, they are. Our city has designated dates for hauling away large/heavy items (like mattresses). I am so grateful they don't adhere to it and relieve the rest of us of the eyesore!

3x Thursday:: Sleep...(or lack there of)
1. On average, how many hours of sleep do you get a night? Is it enough, or do you need more? Seven hours or less and I definitely need more - at least eight or nine hours!
2. Do you normally sleep pretty well at night, or are you a toss & turner, insomniac, etc? Lately, I've been sleeping very soundly and have been thankful for this.
3. Do you sleep alone, or with someone? If you sleep alone normally, how do you fair when you sleep next to someone, or vice versa if it's the opposite? I sleep with my spouse and when I'm alone, I toss and toss and toss. It's terrible. I try to fill the other side of the bed with pillows, extra throws, etc, but nothing works.
Bonus Question for Comments: What's your ideal sleep schedule? In bed by 11:00 p.m. and rise by 8:00 or 9:00 a.m. Uh-oh, that's more like ten hours of sleep!
Thursday Threesome
::Not so much easy as addicted...::
Onesome: Not so much-- --to do now that school is out for the students? ...or maybe a little too much to do for those student's parental units? What are you up to this July? Back for Summer Sessions? ...off to the beach? ...headed out on a weekend adventure? Surely you must be doing something! I have no children but, yes, I am headed to the beach, summer concerts, outdoor shopping malls and fun!
Twosome: easy as-- Pie? Sure, how about your favorite pie? ...and hey, homemade versus store bought! Would you rather have Mom's Apple Pie or head on over to Marie C's for a slice of heaven there? I'd prefer mom's banana cake but, will settle for Marie C. Mom's not cooking/baking much these days.
Threesome: addicted-- Okay, what is it you are addicted to, that element of your life you simply cannot do without. Reading? The Net? Little porcelain dolls? Oh, yeah: Money? Nah, make it something you'd spend your spare change on... Drinking tea. If I don' have my cup of tea first thing in the morning - well, nothing's getting done or happening!
Theater Thursday
This week its all about your favorites.
1. If you could watch only one movie for the rest of your life, what would it be? A Christmas Carol
2. What is your absolute favorite movie soundtrack? The soundtrack from Mystic Pizza.
3. What's your favorite movie-time snack? Popcorn, of course!
4. Favorite Actor: Robert DeNiro
5. Favorite Actress: Meryl Streep
6. And last but not least, what is your favorite kind of movie: comedy, drama, action...etc.,??? Oooh, tough one....drama. But then, I do like many comedies. No, I'll stick with drama.
