3x Thursday: : Commute
1. What's the longest distance you've had to commute? Was it worth it? I never realized that the longest distance I've had to commute is in to downtown L.A., which is about 10 miles from home and a 15 - 20 minute drive. I never realized that I've always worked close to home!
2. If you have a commute, what mode of transportation do you use? What do you do during it? I drive and listen to CDs or audiotapes. Just this morning I was reminiscing as I listened to a compilation of David Bowie's songs. I had the volume pumped up as I heard Diamond Dogs, Fame, Heroes, Ashes to Ashes, Panic In Detroit and Modern Love.
3. How important is commute distance when choosing a job? It's important. I don't want to commute an hour or more, that's for sure! It also depends where the job's located. I don't want to go to a terrible area to work.
Bonus Question for Comments: What do you think of carpooling? Does it work? Why/Why not? It doesn't work for me, because I often take naps during lunch, have doctors appointments mid-day and when I'm not napping, like to go sit at the park and eat lunch.
Theater Thursday
Robots
This week sees the opening of the film adaptation of Isaac Asimov's classic "I, Robot" starring Will Smith.
1) Who or what is your favorite movie robot? How many movie robots are there, anyway? I can't think of them to make a decision!
2) Will we ever see the day where walking, talking robots truly become a part of every day life? I think the day will come but it may be the lifetime of my great-nephews. Certainly not in mine. We don't have the AI and logistics of mobility figured out so that they'll operate and function smoothly in tandem.
3) Should a robot ever be programmed to kill a human? No, but you know this is inevitable. It will fall under "preservation of human life for police officers".
BONUS) If you had a personal robot, what would you call it? What would you like it to do for you? I wouldn't want one and I would not have one in my house. We have early incarnations that Vroom vacuum and the Sony and Honda brand walking robots. I haven't the faintest interest in those things and they're only $99.00.
